I have heard alot of negative things about the poly recently. I wondered if anyone had a good thing to say about this hotel. I am staying there this September and am a bit worried that I should change my resort.

With any WDW Resort there are going to be people who write a great review about it and others who write not so much great things about. I personally believe that there are more positive reviews then negatives of all their Resorts, so I would say keep you're reservation at the Polynesian and don't worry about the bad stuff people say.

We stayed at the Poly in early June and it was fantastic! Everything about it was as I had envisioned. The grounds were spotless, our room in Tahiti was clean as could be, and everyone was very helpful.

Just got back from a POLY/AKL split stay. The POLY is my all time favorite place, and this time did not disappoint. Everything was fabulous, the service, cleanliness, food. I can't say enough about how wonderful it was. You will love it!

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Poly! The rooms are huge and one of the best themed IMHO. The grounds are immaculant - the service very good from everyone you meet. The ceremonial house is fun and relaxing, and the plus of the convenience of the monorail superb! My kids love the volcano pool. The only draw back I have with Poly is no hot tub! :( Serious bummer!

Our stay was so fantastic last November that I'm taking my folks in January!

Our room was spotless and huge - we love the new decor. The volcano pool, complete with MK view, was amazing. The food at Kona and Ohana did not disappoint, and the transportation can't be beat.

I can't think of a single thing I didn't enjoy about the resort!

The Poly is fantastic! Negative reviewers always seem to be more vocal than positive ones. I honestly believe there is some level of resentment for how much attention this resort gets on these boards. I believe the Poly has the most loyal, dedicated fans of any Disney resort. Don't get me wrong, I think all Disney resorts are nice and each has something special to offer. I can onlly speak from personal experience, but I have never had a negative experience at this resort. There are so many wonderful aspects of the Polynesian. Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. This resort has not become this popular by accident.

There's always that old legal term to consider: "Silent majority, vocal minority." Just remember, a small handful of folks complain quite loudly... :goodvibes

I have the opposite experience. Everyone around here loves the Poly. It always wins when people ask which hotel is best. In fact, it wins every hotel contest on the boards. If you asked people if they'd rather step in dog poop at X location or at the Poly, the Poly dog poop would win.

The only thing about the Poly that I don't like that isn't also a problem at the other hotels is that everything isn't under one roof. You have to go into the lobby and exit again to get to your building. And even that only sucks if it is really hot (and you don't want to go back out into it) or it is raining. Other than that, there isn't anything wrong with the Poly that isn't wrong with the other WDW hotels, as well.

It's a great hotel, very well themed and very relaxing if you're into that sort of thing (which I am.) However, I don't think it is the best hotel in the whole world or that I'd slit my throat if I couldn't stay there. It's still a hotel, you know?

I would have to say that out of all the Delux resorts, I think the Poly is the best. It has the best location I think..being right across from where the Castle stands. You can see the fireworks awesome there. Take a bus to anywhere, take the monorail to 2 parks.

it has an awesome theme.

i remember one of my best memories ever of WDW were at the poly. I remember me and my fiancee sitting on the beach on the 7 seas lagoon. I was laying in a hammock and just rememeber how nice the sun felt, the smells I could smell from the food being cooked, and all the sounds from the monorail to the boat horns to the water moving along the shore...just an ultimate disney moment.

You will LOVE the poly, anyone who says they don't like it, probably dont know their blank from their elbow if you know what i mean

We've only stayed at the Poly once in 2005, but we really loved it! When we stay at Shades of Green, we spend quite a bit of time at the Poly shopping/eating/monorail-ing. The CM's are always fab and quick with help and an "Aloha!" And the grounds are just gorgeous!!!! :goodvibes

When I mentioned staying at the Poly this year instead of SOG (We got the discount!), my DH didn't bat an eye. He just said, "Book it!" As the other posters have said, you'll hear good and bad about each resort. Remember too that people are quick to complain and slow to compliment.

Now, start getting excited about that trip!!! :wizard:

I've stayed at the Polynesian resort 3 times, and I was just there for the day 2 months ago. It looked as clean and beautiful as always.

I will be staying there again in a week and a half and I promise to come back WITH PICTURES of everything I can get a picture of! Good or bad, I'll show how it looks right now. :)

I am fully confident that I'll see the same beautiful resort that I always see, but if I do see something negative I won't hold back from mentioning it. I feel that the success of this message board is due to hearing the good and the bad, and allowing each of us to make our own decisions based upon unbiased information :)

If the "bad" reviews on this board were the norm then you would not need reservations for any of the resorts and would be able to just walk up and eat at any of the restaurants whenever you felt like eating.;)

You can find "bad" reviews of every resort and every restaurant, an awful lot of them being that they were "not worth it" or that their sky high expectations were not met. If some people do not get what they perceive to be their fair share of "pixie dust" (free upgrade, towel animals, etc, etc, ...) their vacation is "ruined". Gross exaggerations are not unknown on the DIS.

So take all of the reviews (unless you know alot about that persons tastes and expectations) here with a huge grain of salt, both the good ones and the bad ones.

If you want to stay at the Poly then that is where you should stay and if you go with the right attitude and reasonable expectations then you should have a great vacation.:thumbsup2

I don't believe there is dog poop at the Polynesian, but if I had to step in it somewhere.....:rotfl2:

To the OP, consider the "negative" things you have read. Then consider if you had the same experience that it would "ruin my entire vacation."

For instance, someone complained about a smell in an elevator. While I have not experienced that at the Polynesian, if you could not tolerate the one or two floor trip in an elevator next to a smelly tourist, then perhaps you should stay at a resort without elevators, or request a first floor room.

Another complaint was that the room had not been serviced by housekeeping prior to the poster's return for a mid-day nap. Rather than request "early housekeeping" the poster changed resorts mid-trip:rolleyes1 . Trust me, just like every other hotel, everyone's room gets housekeeping but not every room is cleaned first and one room is cleaned last. If the timing of housekeeping is important to you, let the housekeeping staff know.

A funny comment I read recently had to do with the poster's opinion of the lobby at the Polynesian. The complaint was "the look is dated." Then the poster said they much preferred the lobby of Wilderness Lodge! :lmao: Uhmm, Wilderness Lodge is meant to invoke the style and design of the great National Park lodges built during the Depression / 1930's. Can't get much more "dated" then that! (Well, GF might be late 19th century).

Finally, alot of the negatives posted here recently have had a "not worth it" undertone. Yes, the Polynesian is an expensive resort. In terms of facilities, rooms and amenities it is comparable to a nice Marriott or Hilton, which in the "real world" (as opposed to Disney's World) would most likely charge less per night. But then there is no where else in the world, Disney or otherwise, that has the views, the location, transportation options, and those tiki torch lit pathways.

Have a great trip wherever you stay!:)

This is by far my favorite post ever! Ok, so I only joined here last month, but man, that made me laugh.

And not only funny, it's probably the most true thing I've read. I'm planning a trip next year - the first for my young kids to WDW. I want it to be perfect. I don't want anything to go wrong, because I don't know when we'll get another chance to visit again. So when I stared reading bad reviews on certain resorts, I started getting nervous that I'd make a bad decision.

But in the short time I've been reading the DIS Boards, there is something important I've come to learn. Words like "worst," "awful," and "never" should probably not be taken literally. But that equally goes for words like "best," "immaculate," and "always." You should never go into any situation, WDW or other, expecting perfection. You will always be disappointed. (Oops there's that "always" word.) I find the best approach for me on this board is to read all the reviews and thoughts from others with first-hand knowledge and exerience, decide what things are important to me, and then ask specific questions about those things. Asking questions like "is it worth it?" or "will I be disappointed?" can't be answered here for you by others.

It seems to me after reading here for a while, that "deluxe" does not mean "luxury." It means "more convenient," "slightly larger rooms," and "more elaborate theming." If those things are important to you, and the Polynesian is your favorite theme, then it's probably a good bet, and probably "worth it" (at least as much as any resort will be "worth it").

I'm really looking forward to your pictures. We were at POR at the same time-you actually took a picture of my DH & obviously didn't know it, but I saw it on your post of the trip!! Did we laugh-what are the chances? That being said, your POR pictures were great. We will be staying at the Poly for the first time in Sept. so I can't wait to see your perspective on the resort. Take some good ones & thanks in advance!!!:)

Don't switch your ressie, OP. Give it a try. We have always had a good experience at the Poly, from Hawaii lagoon view to Rarotonga garden view. It's very relaxing. Try watching Wishes from the pool!
