We are going to be visiting Disney for the first time as a family. I have been many times and so has by DH but our 2 DD's have never been (ages 4 and 7). Neither of us have ever stayed on the Disney property. My DH is in the military and we can stay at SOG. However, financially we can stay at the Poly or one of the other deluxe resorts. I like the idea of being on the monorail and seeing the MK from our resort. But I also like the idea of saving money. I also like being able to use the Disney meal plan which I know we would not be able to do at SOG. Which one should we choose?

well, in Dec. we did both ;) stayed at Poly and SOG. SOG is incredible for the price, and it has a path right to the Poly, basically across the street ;) so either is great. the ddp is ok, but not a deal breaker for me. The room at Poly was beautiful. It was so nice to walk right out our door and watch Wishes, but for the price difference SOG was great too. the room was much bigger than at the Poly, but didn't have the new flat panel tv's:eek:  we were going for Christmas, so I wanted to be at Poly for that, but this Christmas, we're staying at SOG the entire stay. It was our first time staying at either of them so I wasn't sure what to expect. Plus our room at SOG had a kitchen table for 4:yay: good luck. you'll have a blast regardless, but personally we will be staying at SOG a lot more:cloud9: :woohoo:

For our first trip as a family, we stayed at the Poly, thinking that it would be a long time before we came back (haha!)! We LOVED it, and hated to try any place else. However, we decided to try SOG (DH is active duty Air Force) when we took a trip with our best friends (also AF). The price truly can't be beat, and that it why we are staying there again in May. While I would LOVE to stay at the Polynesian again, I just can't justify the price difference. We are paying $129/night for a ground floor pool side at SOG, and we would be paying $399/night + tax for a garden view at the Poly. By staying at SOG we have been able to extend our stay and are now staying for 12 nights.

For us, the dining plan just isn't worth it. We have 2 small children who usually share meals, and DH and I aren't big eaters either, so the DDP has never been a deal breaker for us. We get annual passes and the Disney Dining Experience card, and save on meals that way.

If you do decided to go ahead and stay at the polynesian, be sure to compare ticket prices. You can still buy your tickets at SOG (if you aren't on a package through Disney), and you will save some money there. We will be saving $131.60 by purchasing our annual passes at SOG! The prices are just slighty lower, but you don't pay tax.

Good luck on your decision, and know that you'll have fun no matter shere you stay!
