Poly Vs. Poly Concierge

Hi,

I have just booked the Poly for next Christmas (2005). :D I am wondering/hoping that AP rates will become available, and I could either save money on my current ressie or upgrade to concierge. Based on the 2004 rates, there would be about a $100 per night difference for concierge.

Right now, my understanding is that concierge offers the lounge. We would probbaly use the breakfast offerings pretty consistently, and then inconsistently use the other offerings, depending on whether it was a park day or not. Having 5 of us in the room, we may also appreciate the fact that a lounge gives us a little "space", rather than always being in the room.

I also understand that concierge services will book PS's for you.

Are there other benefits I'm unaware of? Are the rooms nicer or bigger?

Being kind of frugal at heart, it may difficult (if not impossible :D ) for me to reconcile the price difference. But I am trying to determine what is offered, so I can be ready to make the decision that will be best for my family.

Rooms are the same as the standard rooms in the other longhouses but still larger than most other resort rooms. It use to be that a refrigerator was the difference in the rooms but now all have or can have for free a refrigerator. Robes are in the room but those can be requested in standard rooms. Turndown service is automatic but can be asked for in a standard room. The location of the longhouse that has the concierge room is one of the best locations being next to the beach, both pools and a short walk to the TTC, boat launch and GCH. The building is more secure and you have access to staff at the concierge desk in the building for any arrangements you may need. You get a personal itinerary ahead of time to make requests and reservations. The lounge offers a great view of the lagoon as well as the fireworks and castle with the music piped in.

Here is a link to the concierge services.

I had been many times without concierge and ever since the first time we did concierge we have continued to book a concierge room. If I was to go back to a standard room I would at least do a lagoon view room but that is just my opinion.

I forgot to mention but sometimes when places are booked up and have no tables available, being a concierge guests may get you a reservation. They set aside some tables for conceirge guests. Sometimes this helps with last minute reservations.

The personal service is what makes the concierge. The lounge is also a huge convenience. The thing we used the most outside of the lounge offerings was the Concierge service to help us make last minute changes to our dining plans. This was a tremendous convenience and they were able to help us out on three different occassions. So much easier than dialing up an 800 line at the last minute.

In addition they helped us with directions to local attractions, such as the all-you-can-eat Lobster Buffet nearby.

There are numerous advantages to staying concierge but you'll need to decide on your own if you think the lounge and personalized itinerary planning cuts it for you. I think it will.

In addition, you have chosen just about the best time to be at Disney for the Wishes show. On the evenings of MVMCP if you're at the resort, the show is simply amazing from the Polynesian.

Just a hint: Check out Tikiman's site and decide if you want a 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor view. You can make a request and if they have it available you'll get it. 1st floor features beach/pool access but is frequented by flocks of ravenous Disney-ducks.

I loved the Poly Concierge. It was worth every penny to us on that trip. We had 2 pre-teen boys & they got full benefit from the lounge.
I don't particularly love the Poly, much to my surprise, but would stay there concierge again. I would not stay there any other way.

We just returned from the Poly. Concierge Dec 11-19. This was our first time at the Poly and Concierge. We loved it so much that we are working on dates for next fall. The Hawaii Building is in a good location, close to the boat dock to MK, next to the main pool and short walk to bus and monorail. We also really liked all the assistace from teh concierge staff. One night we got off the monorail and had not had dinner and walked by ohanas and checked the wait and it was 1.5 hours. Got back to the Hawaii building and asked the conciege staff about ohanas and got a table for 5 andtime we wanted. We said how about in 30 minutes and we got in.

The lounge is great for our older boys to watch TV and get a snack. We did breakfast every day and always made sure we had deserts. The kids liked the fact that they had cookies, candy, and soda anytime during the day. It may cost a little extra but we thought it was worth every dime.

One more nice thing, if you have a logoon view, you can watch fireworks every night from the balcony.

Or, if you're like us...from your bed!!!

We've stayed at Deluxe and Moderate resorts and now own at DVC. DW and I stayed at the Polynesian for our first 'empty-nester' trip to WDW in fall of 03 on an FTP package. We stayed Concierge Lagoon view. For us, the only plus of Concierge was the food in the lounge. Having free cold drinks available, as well as the snacks during the day and the hors d'ouvres at night were a nice treat. However, we rarely make PSs, and never needed last-minute tickets, etc, so the other services were of no value to us.

So if we ever do stay at a non-DVC resort, the Polynesian would be our first choice, and we would pay for Lagoon view. However, we're not the kind of folks who use Concierge service, and now that all rooms have a mini-fridge, we can keep water and soda cold at a much lower price.

Be well!

Well, thanks for all of the information.

I think we will probably wait and see if a code comes out to significantly lower our rate (either an annual pass rate or other code). On the other hand, if we can't get that much cheaper for the room, and a concierge rate with a code isn't too bad, maybe we'll go that way.

I sound so decisive, don't I?
