Could someone describe the slide at the Volcano Pool at the Poly? How much of a climb? is it dark in the slide? May a parent wait at the bottom? Is a lifeguard at the top/entrance? anything else worth noting?

We were just there last November. It is a moderate climb. I didn't count the steps, but maybe the equivalent of two regular house staircases, just a little more spread out. The little kids sprinted right up them, though. Most of the slide is enclosed, but it isn't really dark, at least during the day, you can see your own body, etc. A parent can wait at the bottom. There is a lifeguard at the bottom but not at the top. One thing my husband and I noticed is that while adults seem to come down the slide pretty quickly, the kids' rides were not so fast, maybe due to the difference in weight. So the slide was not at all scary for my usually nervous seven year old, once we got her to try it the first time, we couldn't get her to stop!

Instead of a lifeguard at the top telling the next child when it's ok to start, there is a red light and green light, so of course you go on the green!

Just there in March. The kids loved it so much that they did not want to leave for a Park....we got to really enjoy the resort, well, the pool at least. You walk up around and through the volcano, so there are several steps, but the kids did not care. It is an enclosed slide/tunnel effect and is dimly lit red inside as you go down through the "lava". An average size adult will not be able to sit up, but I did not find that an problem. There is a life guard position dirtectly across from the exit of the slide (stream end of pool) and they will ask you to move if you block the exit. The pool is shallow enough there that my 7 year old, rather short DD had no problem touching bottom.

DH loved the slide! my 75 year old Grandmother even went down a time or two! (I opted not to, since the pool was packed...;) )
I agree that the adults go faster.
DH FLEW!
