Were the Poly rooms refreshed more recently for the DVC rooms than the regular ones? TripAdvisor has some mixed reviews citing worn carpet, older etc. Also, is there a lot more activity at the pool than say, WL such that lounges are difficult to find, too many kids in pool etc? thx.

DVC has never been refurbished. First soft goods is expected in 2021-2022. They are still working with the inception design.

The hotel side is older right now, but getting refurbed this year.

The volcano pool is extremely busy and in pool season can be difficult to find chairs.

If i remember correctly, Last Poly refurb was 2013 time frame, basically going on while the 3 DVC long houses were being gutted, so they are a year or so older. One thing about a cash room is its a lot easier to switch if the room is unsatisfactory. You can usually get moved to another room, or given a refund and moved to another resort.

Poly is, at least to me, much more kid friendly, and the lava pool gets very busy. The quiet pool, not so much, But I think the main pool at WL is crowded as well.

Thx for the info. Poly appeals for the room configuration and access to MK. WL was great last time but limited food options and we don’t do the parks in evening. It’s funny how so many love Poly but there are some complaints about the freshness of the rooms. At these prices, carpet stains and mildew caulk are not good but I’m guessing those situations are a one off.

Poly has fairly limited food options as well. I don't think I'd rate its options ahead of WL at this point. You're more likely to get Whispering Canyon on short notice than either Kona or 'Ohana. Cap'n Cook's is the only real QS, vs. Roaring Fork + Geyser Point.

Benefit of Poly is that you are a quick monorail ride away from many other food options. Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Magic Kingdom, Epcot are all at most 2 stops away on the monorail.

Same could be said of WL; it's a quick boat ride away (similar wait times in my experience) from CR, FW, and MK. I personally wouldn't count Epcot as quick from Poly for food, as, all the good food options are in WS, and FW only has Sunshine Seasons (heavy hit or miss) and Electric Umbrella (terrible).

I would say Poly's benefit is walking distance to GF and multiple modes of transportation (ferry, express monorail, resort monorail and resort launch) to the MK and best access to Epcot from all MK resorts.

Some have said there is a refurb of the non dvc rooms going on now. Any guesses how many months that typically goes on? Like what are the chances of getting a refurbed room in Oct?

Depends when they start. Hotel refurbs are faster than DVC but they usually start at the high end, so Tonga and Hawaii.
