I am now becoming the neurotic planner who has to change everything all the time. My wife first said if she could stay anywhere it would be the GF but now she says the Poly. I am looking for some sort of help either way since we have never stayed at either. I have visited both and enjoyed both, but staying is another thing all together. We also have a 3.5yo and a 6mo to worry about.

Which theming would you all enjoy better? They are very similar in price, and both are on the monorail line, so in my opinion, I suggest going with the theming. When we stayed at the Grand Floridian in May 2001, their new pool wasn't completed yet, but now both resorts have pools with slides, both pools are right on their respective beaches, and both have a quiet pool.

When we were staying at the GF we toured and dined at the Polynesian and DH and DSs were very impressed with it, which is why our next stay is at the Polynesian :)

When I was first researching resorts before our 2001 trip I scoured these boards and the internet, looking for any and all pictures and info about the resorts, then we made our decisions and were happy with them.

I don't think you can go wrong with either resort. Happy planning! :sunny:

I have children similar in age and I am leaning towards Poly because of the tropical theme... I don't care too much for GF style... jmo

we stayed at the RPC at the GF last Fall and this January we stayed regular GV at the Poly. I would have to say our favorite is the Poly. We rent a car and love the convenience of the Tahiti building which is a quick walk to the TTC and also there is a small parking lot near it to self park at. One thing I did not like at the GF was the guest self parking lot - it was quite a distance to walk so we chose to valet park. I prefer parking ourselves so we can hop in the car whenever we want. We have a 3 year old son and the convenience of getting on the monorail (his favorite ride) at the TTC was great, especially going to Epcot. It took a little longer to get to Epcot from GF.
We didn't get to try the Poly's pool but did enjoy the GF's a lot. Both resorts are lovely. The maid service was good at both. Nothing special at Poly (we were celebrating his 3rd birthday and noted it on the reservation) - nothing ever left in room for his birthday (didn't expect anything) and no towel animals.
At the GF we got several towel animals and maid service was excellent. Not sure if that was because we were staying concierge. But, I'm sure you could get a special maid at either resort.

You can't go wrong with either resort; just depends on what you are looking for.

The GF and Poly are definately two of the best resorts. Last Aug. we took advantage of the FTP and tried the GF. It was every bit as relaxing and "kid friendly" as the Poly.( the zero entry pools are priceless when it comes to little ones ). Are you planning on staying at the concierge level? If so, the Poly is the way to go. The food will be much more appealing to your 3.5yo (and in all honesty, mom and pop too! ). Have a wonderful time!

We have stayed at both, and I have to say, the Poly is more fun!!! My kids liked GF, but loved the Poly! The laid-back, island atmosphere, the beautiful grounds, and the cm's are the best!! During our last stay, we were there between my two youngest kids' birthdays, and they surprised them with cake, balloons and gifts!!

We always have to make a visit to the Poly, even when we stay elsewhere. It's very special!!::yes::

I stayed at the Poly in august and the service was great! My Grandfather was celebrating his 85th birthday and they went out of their way for him. When we returned to the room there was a birthday cake with candles, matches and silverware. Towel animals and leis as far as the eye could see and a magical moments certificate. They put us in a room in the Aorteroa bldg. with a view of the monorail. Just magical! I love the poly and am going back summer 2005 after my son's graduation.pirate:

I stayed in the Grand Floridian for my honeymoon and have to say, it seemed kind of bland compared to the Polynesian. Don't get me wrong - the lobby is fantastic and the buildings are very pretty, but the theming didn't seem much different than any fine Victorian style hotel. We actually spent more time at the Polynesian than we did at the GF. The downside to the Polynesian is that the decor seems very "70's" - it's actually pretty authentic Polynesian style - but the colors and such are what we generally associate with the 1970's. I love it though - and many others do too - it's definitely the more festive of the two. Have fun!
