Poly v. Tower at Contemporary

Rooms at both are the same size, but each has its pluses and minuses.

  • The Contemporary has the benefit of being able to walk to the MK.
  • The Poly has a boat (shared with the GF) or monorail ride to the MK.
  • The Poly theme is relaxed south pacific island.
  • The Contemporary theme is city hotel.
  • If you have an MK view at the Contemporary you'll spend a lot of time just looking.
  • If you have a lake view at the Contemporary you'll still enjoy watching the boats.
  • The Poly views can be great (like seeing the MK), OK (like seeing lush tropical flora) or poor (like seeing the parking lot), depending on what category you book.
  • From the Poly you can walk to the TTC to catch the Epcot Monorail.

We haven't stayed at the CR, but we love the Poly. We love the tropical atmosphere, the pool, the beach for watching the fireworks, and Captain Cooks for quick CS meals. With that said, we are giving the CR a try in December. As the pp said, the rooms are about the same size and they're both on the monorail, with the CR being within walking distance to MK and the Poly being within walking distance to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail. I think the Poly is more appealing as far as theme/decor, but for room size and location/transportation, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Good luck deciding, although I think you'll have a great trip no matter which resort you choose.

For my family (2A, 1 teen DD) it's the Poly. We prefer the lower buildings, lush gardens, beach themed Poly over the "city-like" CR.

I don't think either is a bad choice -- and they both have pros and cons with transportation (so to me that part is even).

I would ask you which theming/room decor/atmosphere do you think you would prefer? Between these 2, that's what I would use to choose.

Which is nicer - the Polynesian or the tower rooms in the Contemporary?

We had a split stay last year to appease my DS9. He has always been in love with the CR. So, we stayed in the MK tower room and the view was very, very nice. Enjoyed the fireworks from our room check in night. I loved watching the boats going across the water and hearing the train whistling. The resort quick service was far superior to the Poly's. Pool was meh.

That said, we all preferred the Poly.

We just liked the atmosphere better. The rooms seemed more homey and comfortable and certainly had more unpacking space! The bathrooms were more functional...actually had some counter space. We loved the pool, the grounds, the mood music around the gardens, and the quick walk to the monorails, both Epcot at TTC and MK at the GCH.
