We've decided to splurge for the last 4 nights of our trip and stay at the Poly. This will be our first time ever here and we are extremely excited!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I'm trying to gather all the info I can now, about what to request and the resort. We're also just debating leaving it to the tiki gods as to what room we get :p
If we do make any requests besides non-smoking, what sort of things can you request with Garden View? Can you request a water view room? Do we need to request a balcony? Are the refillable mugs worth it here?

Any other great tips??? :)

If you haven't already, check out Steve's site... everything you want to know about the Polynesian.

He was very helpful when I stayed there last Thanksgiving. We requested either Tahiti or Tokelau, non smoking, 2nd or 3rd fl with a balcony. We stayed in Tokelau 3942, non smoking. It was close to the TTC, a short walk back to the GCH for the monorail, breakfast.

We did not go in the pools, really just not enough time!! But our room overlooked the quiet pool. The grounds were quiet and clean, just like paradise!! We didn't want to go back home to the snow... left in a snowstorm the day before Thanksgiving, came home to about 8" of snow.. luckily my neighbors had shoveled a path on our deck to the door.

We purchased the refillable mugs for $10.99 I believe. I'm a tea drinker, both hot & ice tea, so it was worth it for me. the only bad thing about it was -- did I really want to walk over to Captain Cooks late at night, nah, it wasn't going to happen after a long day in the parks...but we did get our money's worth out of it during breakfast and lunch if we were there... plus I have 2 great mugs to bring my tea to work everyday..

oh and one important thing I did learn about the Polynesian is: Please DON'T refer to it as the Poly.... Poly is a negative slang and is insulting to Polynesians. I was guilty of calling it the Poly for a long time -- until I read that.....
Good Luck and have fun, you'll love the convenience of the resort.. and get ready to be spoiled!!!

We have been going to DW for 20 years about once a year. Our fav resort is the Poly. We usually are in Tokelau and somehow always get a partial view of the lagoon at garden view price. I don't request it we just get it. I would suggest that longhouse and maybe you should go to Tikiman's site, I don't have the address sorry. He has a very comprehensive Polynesian website with tons of excellent information. Try doing a search for Disney's Polynesian and see what you can find. All the rooms have a balconey in Tokelau. We always get the mugs but there are 4 of us 2 children who are teens and they drink alot. If you are planning on being at the pool I think the mugs are worth it just for the soda you will be drinking while there. Our children also enjoy the arcade and use the mugs while they are there too. Have a great trip.

The POLY is one of the most interesting hotels to stay at! Be sure to take the beach walk over to the GF at night! What a view around the lagoon.

All rooms in Fiji are garden view, but they have a view of the bay (where the boats are parked) & volcano pool, or the Grand Floridian. We had a balcony on the top floor & had an awesome view of the water with some sail boats below, the volcano pool & the Contemporary in the background. It was also a very short walk to the main building/food area/monorail. We definitely got our money's worth out of our mugs - but we are avid Diet Coke drinkers ( & the hot chocolate was great on a few cool nights in December ;) )

Hope this helps - have fun! :D

Oh, are you going to love the Polynesian....we stayed inTuvalu, ground floor, lagoon view...short, leisurely stroll to the Volcano pool and main building...walking with the music playing in the background Hawaii for only a 3.5 hour flight!!;) One of the best parts was tucking the kids into bed, turning off the lights, and watching the fireworks and the lagoon parade...help me what is that called? And the ducks showed up every evening, looking for a snack - and we were meanies - but the actually knocked their beaks on the glass door! Mahalo!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I strongly recommend the Tokelau longhouse, where I stayed last November. You should request a lagoon view in this house for your trip-- we did, and we had a garden view room that overlooked the lake... from our 1st floor balcony, we could see the Contemporary and TTC and a few steps out, the Electrical Water Pageant, castle (and fireworks), and Grand Floridian were within view. We also had the torches lit right outside our room at night. I believe the rooms in Tokelau are slightly larger than the rooms in some of the other longhouses, so our room was especially spacious (and clean). The longhouse is also right next to the quiet pool and a short walk from the GCH and Volcano pool. We couldn't have been more happy with our view or room. Oh, and be sure to eat at the Kona Cafe while you're there! :p Have a great time!!!

Thanks everyone for your replies... I just looked over tikiman's site and I will request Tokelau, 2nd or 3rd floor... we really want a balcony :p
Even though we are only staying for 4 nights I think we will invest in a mug, I can't imagine having to pay for a soda each time!

For all you just back or recently at the Poly. Have their mugs changed over the last two years? I have the regular ones they were selling two Augusts ago but they are hard to take in the car holder when I want to take something to drink. Do they have the smaller bottom mugs now that some of the other places do? If so I'll set aside for a new mug.. shoot.. I might just get a new one if it has a new design anyway.. I'm a sucker for souvenir mugs! Thanks!

I can't wait to go back to the Poly next year. We were there June 30th though July 9th this year. I have stayed at many WDW resorts, but this one is my favorite. We had a garden view room. I faxed in a request for 1st floor Samoa building 4 days before we arrived and followed up with a phone call to confirm my reservation. They were able to give us the requested building when we arrived :bounce: The location of Samoa is great. Very close to the GCH and both pools. Some have posted it to be a high traffic and noisy area. We found it to be just the opposite and would most likely request that building again. My kids loved the ducks that visited our patio every morning. Take the time to walk around the resort late at night. The walkways are lit by tiki tourches. It is absolutley tranquil. You will feel as you are not in central Florida but the French Polynesian Islands. This (IMHO) is the best themed resort on WDW property. Spend lots of time in the Volcano pool! The slide is a blast!
