Sorry for the newbie question....

Edited to change to the right names.... duh!!

Just planning our first WDW vacation. We're booked at gardenview at the Poly next month. I'm wondering which long house to request. I've got it narrowed down to 3rd floor Samoa or 2nd or 3rd floor Tokelau. We're a family of 4 with a 4.5 year old and 2.5 year old. My husband is an above knee amputee (usually wears a prosthetic but likes to go on crutches for pool access) and I'll be 5 mos pregnant (are we nuts or what :earboy2: ). I was leaning towards Samoa because of it's more central location and easy access to both pools. The thing that concerns me is the noise factor (I'm having a hard enough time sleeping as it is and know I'll get really grumpy if I'm hearing noise all night from other guests). Tokelau looks great with the larger rooms, but I'm a little worried about it being more difficult to herd two preschoolers around the grounds, especially if my DH wants to take them to the pool without me.

Oh, and I didn't want a first floor because it always creeps me out to have two access points to the room and I hear 2nd floor Samoa doesn't have balconies, so I excluded that too.

So, all you veterans, with these crazy facts, what would you recommend? Is Samoa really noisy? Is Tokelau too far out of the way?

Thanks!

First and foremost... Welcome to the DIS!!!

I have stayed in a couple of the buildings.. I like Fiji myself ofter the Hawaii longhouse but since the Samoa is close to the pool, I would worry about the noise level in the evenings.. so I guess I would go with Tokelau.

If you get the chance, stop by Tikimans Polynesian website... it's worth a visit... http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/index.html

Again.. welcome!!! and good luck...

I have stayed near the quit pool and did not have a problem with noise --this was when the main pool was under construction in 2000--
I do not think any building is close enough to hear to much......
I would not be very concerned
The closest building facing the pool is still a few minute walk, it is not right outside your door in other words.
if it is find a hammock
i have fallen asleep many times on a remote hammock at the poly
just ask my wife :duck:

Ok, I'm not only a newbie, but lack basic reading comprehension skills as well. Doh!

I meant that I was debating between Tokelau and Samoa, not Tuvalu. Sorry about that.

Fiji, I heard can be noisy because of the luau. Have you had that problem? We would probably be trying to put our kids down for bed while the later seatings were still going on.

Thanks so much!

We had 3rd floor Tokelau (facing the quiet pool) and I LOVED it. It was a short walk to the Great Ceremonial House, very quiet, and a few steps from the quiet pool. The rooms are also a little larger at this longhouse.

We were in 3rd floor Samoa facing the volcano pool, right across from the elevator. Actually our noise problem was from parents refusing to restrain their kids in the morning as they run down the hallways to get to breakfast, catch the monorail, etc. That can happen anywhere. The room was lovely, great view of the volcano pool and a little bit of the lagoon. Great location for convenience to everything but the walkway to the TTC, but that isn't that big of a deal. At the most a less than 10 minute walk if you choose to do so to avoid the monorail ride back to TTC to board the EPCOT monorail

We love staying in the Fiji building. You can hear the Luau, but its usually over by the time we get in and are ready to call it a night. But, we stay on the Lagoon side, so some of the noise (most of the noise?) probably doesn't reach us. Even so, I think the Luau sound helps create the atmosphere. I agree with Bracho, check out Tikiman's site. Aloha!

We've stayed in Samoa a number of times on both sides. On one single July night I heard faintly noise from the pool....but suddenly silence fell right around 10:00 pm. I really think you'll be fine if you end up in Samoa. It is an easy walk to either pool as you already know.

I also wouldn't worry about the size of the rooms....all of them are large especially when you just have two little ones.

But if walking distances is an issue for your husband, Raratonga might be a great choice. It is very close to the GCH, the bus stop and the quiet pool and is not very far at all from the volcano pool.

Also if he needs a transfer bench be sure to tell the CM. In fact, I would be sure to tell the CM of your special needs regardless.
