Poly room location decision

We are staying at the Poly for the first time 2/9 - 2/15 and we're quite excited. Did a lot of research on location. We've booked a garden view and I'm thinking Tokelau is a great choice because there's no chance of a parking lot view and it seems you could get a sideways view of the lagoon if you're lucky. We just simply do not want a parking lot view. Tokelau is also all non-smoking and I think has the slightly bigger rooms.

I'd like to hear which is everyone's favorite longhouse and why?

Thanks.

I think Tokelau is a good choice! We stayed there last month, and had a nice view. We were in rm. 1935, and had a pretty view of the grounds. You can search tikiman's website for good locations as well. I do know that there are rooms at the lagoon end of Tokelau that are considered garden view, but afford a partial view of the lagoon and either the GF or the Contemporary, depending on what side you're on. I believe rm # 1915, or something similar. Hopefully someone can help you with the exact numbers.

You'll have a great time - it's a wonderul resort!

Momofmikey - That's interesting - a garden view with a partial lagoon view and maybe the Contemporary or the GF. That would be so nice. I'm wondering how much of a chance you have requesting a specific room? I've heard the CM's frown upon that.

Anyway - I'm thinking Tokelau is a good choice.

Anyone else want to share their favorite longhouse - and why?

While Tokelau is a good choice, it's also everyone else's favorite. When I stayed at the Poly last August, it was booked. Go ahead and note it as a preference, but have a secondary one ready.

Here's a couple of suggestions:

Samoa - We stayed here on the third floor, overlooking the pool. HUGE balcony, with a great side view of the Grand Floridian. The Great Ceremonial House is no more than a few hundred meters away, and so is the quiet pool.

Fiji: Right by the GCH and marina. The main pool is a stone's throw away. Can get a lot of foot traffic, though - definitely not quiet.

Rapa Nui - Far away from the GCH, but quite close to the Transportation/Ticket Center. It's quieter, not as popular, but this is what the Polynesian does best, I think: recreate the languid, dreamy away-from-it-all ambience of the tropics. I should know: I live in Florida!

Let me know if this helps. Good luck! :D

I was considering Samoa. Anybody out there have any other feedback on this choice? Is it hard to get? Thanks for any advice!

We did Lagoonview Tahiti and were very happy with it. The walk to the TTC is fabulous!

That said we spend most of the time at the parks and Tahiti is a long way to the Great House. Also, IMHO, the resort is a little dark in the evening and my DD's were scared to walk it. Not to mention walking back with cold, tired, wet toddlers from the pool wasn't so hot either.

We stayed at the Poly for the first time last month. We didn't request any building, figured just "go with the flow" and whatever building we get, we get :)

We got the Tokelau!!! It was SO wonderful. We were close to everything. We were on the second floor, had a balcony & overlooked one of the quiet pools. It was so perfect.

Jacksonsmom,

We had a similar location to yours when we visited the Poly in 12/01. We are actually hoping for the same general location on this upcoming trip, but I must admit it seems like each spot has its advantages.

We are also from MN (Maple Grove). I guess we should be happy with any room at the Poly, as its bound to be warmer than MN. LOL.:sunny: :sunny:

We always stay at the poly and have always requested a garden view room. I am not very concerned about the view since we don't spend alot of time in the room. I look for one that is convenient and close to the volcano pool, captain cooks and the Ceremonial House. We have stayed in:
Niue : Right next to GCH, but now smoking and not much of a view.
Aeorotora (I did not request this). _ We had a semi parking lot/monorail view. I did hear the swish of the monorail. The ds liked looking at it. I did think it was inconvenient to get to the pool in the cool feb weather. (ds got sick and definetely need a hooded sweatshirt for nighttime swim runs) and i did not like all the foot traffic of people going to the luau past our bldg. Was very close to captain cooks but would now be very inconvenient to new bus stop.
Samoa - stayed there this past aug. Volcano pool view, first floor, room 1602. Perfect for us, need I say more. A hop skip and jump to captain cooks., ds just opened the slider and came in after pool time while dh and I took an ac break. A little walk to the new bus stop after a long day in the parks. Will definetely request this again our next trip.
I do not have to see the castle, the lagoon all the time etc. But if that is what you have your heart set on , then go for it. We just hop out on the beach any time we want to see anything. After all any one can go to the Poly beach and see the fireworks, ewp etc. The resorts are open to all disney guests. I just have to pay to sleep at the poly, lol.

Luvmarypoppins- Thanks for the info on Somoa. We really want to be close to the pool!

We stayed at the Poly in 03' and had the Samoa-1st floor with a view of the volcano pool- great because it was close to main bldg. & DD could walk to pool. We had a short walk to beach to watch night show.

We were in room 1910 in Tokelau in August, and it was fantastic. We had a side view of the lagoon and the Grand Floridian. We thought the location was fantastic--less than five minutes to the GCH, boat dock, laundry room, arcade, bus stop, and both pools, maybe seven or eight minutes to the TTC. Very convienent.

The room was big and comfortable. There were three adults and two pre-teens in the room, and there was plenty of room for all of our suitcases, coolers, and junk. We never felt crowded.

No kidding!!! I would love to be a WDW right now & away from this freezing weather. ::yes::
Guess we should have scheduled a January trip ;)

We just returned from the Poly and had the Samoa building and it was great. All side view rooms and one side could see the volcano pool and the other side saw the quiet pool. We had the third floor room 3305, 3105 or something like that (i know it ended in 5) and we overlooked the volcano pool and could see the lagoon and the GF from our balcony.

PamNC -

Our favorite longhouse is Tahiti, but I think Tokelau would be our 2nd choice. Check out Tikiman's Poly website; he gives info about location and views, including what you mentioned about garden view rooms with a partial lagoon view. Here is the link to the Tokelau page: http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/tokelau.html

There are many great longhouses but Tokelau is always a safe bet. I don't see a room in that building you would be unhappy with. The other suggestions like Samoa and Fiji are big favorites also. The good thing is that the only rooms that have a direct view of a parking lot are the east side of Rapa Nui. The rooms in Rarotonga that face the parking lot actually have a nice garden area between it and the parking lot and also the monorail is in between there and the parking lot so the view is not a bad one.

Just stick with a request for Tokelau. All I am saying is that I would not stress over not getting it because you may be surprised with an even better view.

The best part about a Polynesian garden view is that a garden view includes views of the marina, pools, partial lagoon or the tropical garden areas with a limited number that actually view the parking lot.

Aloha

Steve

What an honor to get an answer from Tikiman himself. I love your site - just visited it on Sunday (for 3 hours).
