Day 4 Part 1- Look at the Dancing Monkey!
7:30 the next morning I had an all-too-cheerful-for-that-darn-early mouse on the phone. Well, actualy, mom did. One of the great things about my bunk bed was that I couldnt reach the phone, so mom always had to do the answering
Despite Mickeys ideas about me getting up and at em, I slept another hour instead
While I was getting dressed, I discovered a *huge* blister on my poor little toe! Were talking mammoth! I took care of it and then wrapped my toe in a Jasmine band-aid, and we were ready! We finally left the Lodge at 8:55, ready to go have a wild time at the Animal Kingdom! As usual, the Crocket bus pulled up right as we arrived at the bus stop. We could get used to this! The bus driver got us there *really* quick- almost a little.... TOO quick! Im convinced he used some little-known back road, but hey! He got us there quick!
Our first stop was to get a Fast Pass for Kilimanjaro Safaris. Our next order of business was to go see the Festival of the Lion King! Now Ive heard it from tons of people, but now I know for myself- this is a REALLY good show! Mom and I both really enjoyed all of it! It was a really great way to start our morning out! I tried to take a lot of pictures, but I should have used faster film, as they didnt turn out very well. Yes, having worked in a photo department for almost 3 years now, you would THINK I would know this... Oh well, theres always next time! There are four main characters in this show.. I dont remember their actual names in Swahili, but I know that one mans meant Masculine and Strong (and he was!), one of the women was The Gift, the other woman was Princess and the other man was Good Looking (And he was!)
As we wandered through Harambe on our way to the Safari, I noticed a sign that had some sort of announcement, and at the bottom it said Asante Sana (thank you) Ah ha!! Our first swahili lesson of the day!
I love the little song Rafiki sings in the Lion King, and I knew that was in it, but I never knew what it meant! Heh, learn something every day I guess!
We used our Fast Pass for the safari, and it was pretty much how I had remembered it! You get to see a pretty good variety of animals on this ride, and a lot are almost close enough to touch! I still think they really need to change around the whole poacher story a bit.. its a bit too cheesy for my tastes
By now it was starting to rain lightly, and we were hungry, so we made our way back to the Rainforest Cafe. Id heard quite a few mixed reviews, and we were anxious to see how it really was! Before we went in, we took turns posing by the big sign, and for one I kneeled down so that it looked like my head was in the leopards mouth
A CM walking by informed me that someone had once done that and gotten their head stuck! and they had to cut out a tooth of the cat to get it out!
We stopped and checked in at the RFC, and they informed us there would be about a 10 minute wait, so we browsed the gift shop a little bit. You can see inside the restaurant pretty well from the gift shop, and it looked great! About 10 minutes later, we were seated at a nice little table for 2 in the gorilla room. This place is *amazing!* Every inch is covered with decorations to make it look like youre in a rainforest. There are audio-anamatronic animals that move around every now and then, and even the occasional storm
We both loved it! Mom had coffee, I had a coke, and we split a Passport to Paradise pizza (Provolone, Parmesan, Romano and Mozzarella cheeses, fresh basil and marinara sauce) and an order of waffle fries. It was the perfect amount of food for us, and it totaled to only about $22 for the two of us! As if that werent good enough, they gave us a Disney Club discount too! Wahoo! I will definitly be returning here in the future! I only wish that I had ordered my gift certificates from Freeride before they shut down (again) so that I could have made the meal even cheaper! We planned to go back sometime before the end of our trip for dessert, as they all sounded really good, but never got around to it. Next time! Next time I say!
We browsed the gift shop a little while longer since it was raining outside, but I ended up not buying anything.
After lunch, we caught Flights of Wonder, which was a really cute show
We loved how all the birds flew right over our heads.
Next, we decided to go see Tarzan Rocks! We managed pretty good seats- about seven rows back from the stage, and just a bit off to the side. Like most people say, this show is basically a concert with dancers and acrobatics. Of the three singers, the man and one of the women were both very good, but the other ladys voice really annoyed me. Seeing that Tarzan is one of my favorite Disney movies, I loved the show and sang along, but Mom didnt really care for it. Tarzan... well, the man has some muscles! However, the very best part, IMHO, was at the very end, because one of the skating monkey guys was sitting off to the side, REALLY getting in to bopping his head to the music! I grabbed the video camera, and just had to zoom in on this guy! He was off in his own little world, just rocking out to the song
I still crack up every time I watch it!
After the show let out, it was absolutly pouring again! We hid in a small gift shop outside of a restaurant (heh, no idea which one it was!) for a while until the rain let up enough for us to make a run for it. We decided to call it a day at AK, and go back to the Lodge for a while.
Stay tuned for Day 4 Part 2- "Uh, she's the one in the yellow poncho!"
