Poly pool refurb????

CM told me slide will be closed during my stay, but Tikiman's FB page is saying that the pool may be closed as well ???
It would be nice to know.

I had written to WDW about the slide/pool earlier this week and received this reply today.

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort. We are delighted
to hear you are planning a visit!

The Nanea Volcano Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Resort will be under
refurbishment from January 30 - April 1, 2012. Guests may use the Nanea
Volcano pool; however, the slide will be down for four weeks beginning
February 6, 2012. Guests wanting access to a pools slide can take
pontoon transportation to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

There are also several "quiet" pools located at Disney's Polynesian
Resort, where you may wish to enjoy quiet time.

We hope this information is hepful to you in your planning, Felicia, and
we wish you a magical visit.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact
us.

Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number if
applicable on all correspondence.

Sincerely,

Ann Polson
WDW Online Communications

PLEASE NOTE: All information is subject to change without notice and
should be confirmed just prior to your visit.

While this refurb does not affect our stay in June....I thought those of you concerned should be knowledgeable of the misqoute from WDW Online Communication.

"There are also several "quiet" pools located at Disney's Polynesian

There is one other pool at the Poly and that is it. For those of you who have not been there before, I just want to make sure you are aware of that misqoute or misinformation.

1971, that was my first thought too!

I guess we will see what actually closes tomorrow, but of course we still won't know a re-open date!! Our group met last night...we have opted to stay at the Poly even if the whole pool is closed. There is very little availability elsewhere (which is odd and slightly concerning) and we feel the prose of the Poly still make it worthwhile. Though, trust me if the whole pool is closed when we arrive, and we are never notified by Disney...I will ask for something, upgrade, slight compensation, something. I think that for the prices they charge...Disney has an obligation to provide full amenities. Of course that can't always happen, everywhere, but in that event I do feel guests should be either forewarned or notified. It shouldn't be so secretive.

1971, that is something I wondered about. I even looked at a map of Poly and only noticed the one other pool. As I have never stayed there before, I just wasn't sure.

Perhaps they will be wrong about the slide being down for so long, too. Misinformation seems to be a problem with all the layers of employees that exist at WDW.

Newest from tikiman...
"So an update. Today they said the pool will not be closed for the work to be done but the slide will at times. All the work that is to be done will start this week and be completed by April 1."

At times?

So maybe the slide won't be closed for any long stretches? Who knows....

The quiet pool, then known as the "East Pool," opened in the late seventies with the Tangaroa Terrace and two other longhouses.

Where are you seeing that? I don't see that in Tikiman's reports.

When I spoke with WDW today, I asked why a pool slide takes so long to refurbish. I was told that in addition to recoating it, they literally go through the volcano replacing the tubing and the screws. That everything about it is redone.

If that is true, I would not count on the slide taking any less than the four weeks that WDW has quoted me on the pool slide being closed.

We just got back from the poly today (January 30). As of 2 pm today, the pool and the slide were open and no sign of any impendng work.

Tikiman posted it on the wdwmagic forums.
Of course, I don't know if his sources are any better than the other conflicting reports.

BUT-- sounds to me like they are doing rock work, not work on the actual slide. Thus, when working on rock areas closest to the slide, closures of the slide would be likely.

Well, we check in this Saturday and according to Tikiman this is the day they are supposed to start work. So I will post on here when I get back and possibly while I am there to let you know how its going. I can only tell what its like while I'm there and won't know how long it will take, but at least you will know if it smells or if it is loud and annoying.

I am hoping it will make the Poly a little less busy with people just visiting. We'll see :)

I am at the Poly now. The slide was open both yesterday and today. They do have scaffolding up and it is clear they will be working on it soon. They do not have the little waterfall feature turned on, but other than that, it is all operational as of now. Will update again if something changes during my stay this week :)

Thanks for the update!

We are going presidents week so while I would prefer the volcano slide be fully open at least we get the option of going over to GF and using their pool and slide. Sure its not as convenient but its better than nothing.

Any update on the pool/slide closure?
We'll be there in 7 days, and wondering what to expect.

From Tikiman's Facebook page --- slide is now closed. Letters were distributed to the rooms this past weekend. He's heard it will be closed off and on until April 1st. Pool is currently open, may be closed for some periods also until April 1. Haven't heard if there is shuttle boat to the GF.

A travel agent posted there also and said there info shows pool open, slide closed until March 12.

Hoping that at least the pool is open when we go and maybe we'll get lucky and get the slide for a day or two!

Just off phone with Disney I called to book a Cabanna, now saying slide will not re open til March 16th. So bummed I didn't book cause kids will want to go to slide at GF I was so looking forward to that.

Here is a pic of the pool reno as of Wednesday morning. The pool is open, but the slide is closed.

Just returned from a week there. On Sat the 4th (our arrival day) they had scaffolding up, but no work was going on. They didn't have the waterfall going, but slide and pool were both open. They started work on Monday or Tuesday, but the pool was open the whole time. I did see a few families going over to the GF for their slide and they had water transportation for that.

I heard hammering a couple of times when walking by, but our room was in Tokelau, so we were not disturbed by this. I would not want a room right next to the pool though as it might be bothersome.

Overall, it did not ruin the magic of the Poly for our first trip. If it was warm enough and our son was older, we might've changed resorts to be able to use the pool, but we just didn't care that much about it.

Had a wonderful vacation!

Just saw on the new Mousesavers newsletter that the GF slide will be closed at the same time the Poly slide is closed. Now what are we supposed to do?
