Tikiman just posted on facebook "Rockwork clear coat will be applied at Nanea Volcano Pool from January 9 to February 21".

What does this mean for the pool? Will it be open and we just can't use the slide? If it is closed, I really need to rebook somewhere else. We are already losing Dumbo, Thunder Mtn, Elecrtic Parade, Fantasmic, Kali, and who knows what else. I can't take the pool away from DS too :(

Can someone tell me if they have seen this before and what it entails or who to contact to find out?

From what I understand, the pool will be closed during that time. They still have the quiet pool open ( which probably won't be so quiet being the only pool) and I heard that they have a shuttle over to the pool at GF in the past. But the weather can be so variable during that time that I wouldn't count my whole trip on whether a pool is open or not.:confused3

But that is a major factor for us. Coming from Maine in Feb, it can be 50 and we would still think it was warm and the pool will be 82. Guess I will look into some other resorts. Bummer :(

Just "Talked" to a CM on thier live chat on the WDW site. She said she didn't see anything about it on the system. But it is listed online on lots of different sites (wdwinfo.com, tikimanpages, undercovertourist, mosuesavers) Yikes, if a CM can't tell me, who am I supposed to call?

I just emailed the IPO department to ask about this. When I last spoke with them a few weeks ago, they told me that they were planning to refurb the slide but that they would not be closing the whole pool.

I guess either the plans have been changed, or they are going to complete the work while the pool is still open. I'm hoping for the latter. I'll post back when I get a response from IPO.

Thanks! What is the IPO department and how do I get ahold of them? I like your answer the best :) I really want to stick with the Poly for our first trip. There is nothing available at Contemporary other than theme park view $$$ rooms. And I have no desire to stay at the Grand Floridian.

And after my initial freak out...I realized that it isn't the end of the world. I will just have to cart DS over to the GF if they close the Poly one. I have all my plans and ADRs for the Poly. I'm not gonna let it ruin my perfect vaca. Just bummed that I we have so many closures while we are there and still have to pay full price. But this is Disney I guess. Still gonna have a great first trip.

The IPO is the Itinerary Planning Office for guests who have booked club level.

I just got an email back and they are still saying that there are no plans to close down the pool, only the slide. I reallllllly hope this is true!

I hope you have a wonderful first stay at the Poly. I truly is a spectacular resort :cool1:

Oh yay! Good news....thank you so much! :cool1: I don't care about the slide anyway. No way my little guy would go down it alone and they won't let you ride down with them. Just wanted the pool :)

You have a great trip too. I see your ticker is much closer than mine :thumbsup2

This isn't surprising, many are full of wrong info or no info at all.

Also keep an eye on the refurb schedule. In my experience, it's usually pretty updated and accurate.

There is a second pool at the poly, so even if they did close the main pool, which it doesn't sound like they are, you could go there instead of taking him all the way over to the GF.

I'll be there during that time, and this is a bit upsetting. Too late to change resorts because booked under a discount. Ironically, I had considered changing to the GF.
And the Volcano pools was 1 of the reasons we decided to stay at the Poly over the GF.
Glad to hear that the pool will be open and only the slide closed.. but my DS was really looking forward to the volcano slide.
I wonder if I called, if I could get a GF room at the same discount under which I booked Poly.

This has me upset too. :scared1: My kids are excited about swimming and I requested samoa patio poolside to make it easy for swimming. This is our 1st real vacation together. I called and asked about it and was told no, it was not closing and they had no info on the slide either. I'm very concerned that they have not let us know that it would be closed during our trip there.

Undercover tourist gives different dates:
Jan. 30 - Feb. 10, 2012: Rockwork clear coat applied at Nanea Volcano Pool.

Not sure which to believe.... but 6 weeks seems like a long time to apply clearcoat.

I just called and the CM called the Poly front desk and was told no, the pool is not closing for those dates.

If its a package, I don't think you can change anything within 45 days. But I'm pretty new at this, so not really sure. And if there is a closure, I would think they would do anything to keep you happy. Worth a try if you want :)

Thats what I was thinking :)

I know. I could see if we were asking these questions a couple months in advance, but come on people...its right around the corner. One place says they are starting work on it Monday. Shouldn't they know something?!

Let's see what the dates wind up being. If they are through the 21st, then the slide would be closed for President's Day weekend. I hope it isn't. I booked a vacation starting the 21st, wanted to hang by the pool for at least part of that day and the slide is important to us.

Generally speaking you can, assuming the resort you're looking to change to has availability under whatever discount you used (even if it has expired). More than once I've changed resorts within the 45 day mark and/or after the discount I used was no longer available for new bookings and I've never had a problem. At worst there might be a $50 change fee but in my experience they'll waive that if the new package is more expensive and if the change is due to a rehab/closure so you should be clear on both counts.

Very good to know. I assumed that once the discount expired, you couldn't make such a change.
Now to find out the truth about the closure... we are there the 14th-20th...
So if it really is ending the 10th, we are ok... if it is really ending the 21st... then no slide for us, which would disappoint my son.
With the discounts, the Poly and GF were almost the same price.. We considered switching to the GF, but stuck to the Poly and the Volcano Pool was a major part of that decision.

I'm a little surprised Disney hasn't done a better job of letting people know. We got a letter from Pop Century before our last trip notifying us of the main pool & kiddie pool closure which I thought was a really nice touch. I'd be pretty annoyed if I was paying Poly prices and didn't get the same courtesy!

I'd be surprised if it was closed through President's Day weekend. That's one of the busiest times and you'd think they would avoid busy times for refurbishments. Especially at the Poly when it will likely be busy at the pools.
