Poly Points Ridiculous!

Just got back from a 7 night stay at Aulani and stayed in a 2BR OCEAN VIEW Villa. Stayed for 490 points!
Poly 2BR Bungalow for the exact SAME time frame is 993 points!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? That is a lot of points! I would have to bank and borrow for all 3 years JUST TO STAY there 1 week!!!

I think Disney got this ALL wrong! Just my .02 cents worth... WHO figured the points out? And why aren't they fired???

Deer H

Sure is a waste of points and a total waste of $$$$ for the amount of points.

13k for a week (rental income) would be a really nice vacay somewhere for my small little family of four.....

did you really think bungalows would be cheap? they are expensive to build and going to be expensive to kept up.

even if I had the money - don't know about staying in one - they are surrounded by water. now I like water - but would rather have some beach around me too.

We loved Aulani and I have thought all along since the resort opened that the point charts were actually quite reasonable (or they were before they reallocated them for next year). We hope to try a studio at the Poly for next summer after all the kinks are worked out - but I agree that I'd rather have "the real deal" and go to Hawaii for a fraction of the points rather than spend them on a murky lake.

I think I have enough points for 1 flush of the toilet! :jester:

:rotfl: You & me both!! We barely have enough points per year to do 2 nights Sun-Thu in "Adventure" season. I would much rather spend 10 days in a studio at Aulani!! :beach:

If the bungalows were built over a clean water area filled with fish with a glass floor viewing area then We would stay there.

Bill

Again.. You cannot compare Apples to Oranges... NO WAY would I ever pay for a "lake" view 2 times the points (almost 3) and stay at a Ocean View
2BR at Aulani... I disagree with Rcchello... Top 2BR villa at Aulani was 70 points/night in May... Unless you get the GV there, the price structure is so screwed up at Poly..
I agree with a PP... Why stay 1 night at Poly Bungalows.. You would not even have to unpack... Could not enjoy it...
Again.. I see WHY Disney built them... $$$$... BUT.. AT WHAT COSTS? Already on this thread.. 5-6-7 people say that would NOT stay there...
And most of you all seem like DVC veterans... (owned a long time).. So.. what does that say about the product that DVC is building?
I BET a LOT of DVC'ers will not stay there.... Maybe at the studios.. They seem reasonable... but the Bungalows? NOPE!!!!!!!
Again.. my .02 cents worth........
I STILL say whoever designed the points and the product needs to be terminated... (I have heard they block the fireworks view, etc)....

View attachment 101427 The points for the bungalow are crazy to some but I don't think they are that bad. It is a premium vacation product. It is not prices for joe mainstream. It is priced to compete with premium products.

Have you priced a cruise recently?
Ncl has the haven as a premium product. The largest room on most ships hold 6 people.

The cost is over $20,000 a week for a 2 bedroom.
You got the wrong cruise... I just priced a DISNEY cruise (Deluxe OV Verandah.. That sleeps 5... NOT 6... For $6300... May of 2016... Price a DCL
Cruise.. Come out a LOT cheaper than $23000!!!!

We've got the points that we could stay in the Poly Bungalows, but there is absolutely no situation I can image were I would actually spend that many points per night, it would just hurt too much!

We'll be trying out the POLY this Oct in a lake view studio, but I definitely would have preferred to be at VGF or BLT if our dates had of been available.

Renting those same amount of points, you would have enough cash for airfare from any major city in US to the real Bora Bora where you could stay in a real over-the-water bungalow. AND you would have money left over. I actually priced it!

Yes, but there's no theme park next door, no fireworks, there may not even be running water in those bungalows in Bora Bora, I don't know. Probably not air conditioning either. And an unbelievably long plane flight to get there, lol.

If you have the points, why not try one night, just to see what it's like? I probably won't ever be able to step foot in one, so we need to live vicariously through you people who have the megapoints.

Aulani competes with all the other hotels and timeshares in Hawaii. Pricing/points needs to be competitive with comparable accommodations in the area.

Disney has exclusive ownership of 47 square miles of property at WDW. Judging by how many of us own WDW DVC points, we're willing to pay more to be onsite.
Bungalow essentially offers the room plus a private cabana environment for the duration of the stay.

It only takes 20 people to decide it's worth it and it will be booked.
It's no different than everything I buy every single day. Personal preference and personal choice.

We must not be the target market. The 10 bungalows available for points are booking up. So far, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

IMO, that's good news.

I was at DVC Poly this past weekend (see trip report) and surprised at how much this resort is for accommodations.

Using the three rooms available, the price per night is:

24 points studio standard @ $13pp = $312, @$15pp = $360
29 points studio lake @ $13pp = $377, @$15pp = $435 (21% premium over standard view)
159 points Bungalow @ $13pp = $2,067, @$15pp = $2,385 (equivalent to 6.6 standard or 5.5 lake view studios)

So tell me again, how are we saving money with DVC here???

Agree! If there are patrons willing to pay any "over the top" price, why wouldn't a corporation sell it to them? :earsboy:

did you really think bungalows would be cheap? they are expensive to build and going to be expensive to kept up.

Really???

If you estimate 1,000 points per week (52 weeks) for a Bungalow and $165pp to buy and $5pp annual dues, then Disney is charging:

$8.5 million per Bungalow and $260,000 per year in annual dues.

They are nice, but they probably cost less than $1.5m each to build and less than $50,000 per year to maintain.

I priced a cruise and room I have booked. You pricing a dcl for 6300 is like looking at a mod at Disney compared to a villa. Different people book those two vacations.

They can't just pocket the maintenance fees. Those have to be spent on the actual resort.

And a standard view room is still $439-$493/night, plus tax. I can't even get a lake view to come up. So, that's where the savings is.

True but it's pretty easy to come up with ways to spend our money, a new entry for BCV and the team of 3 management types walking around SSR trying to decide which pictures in the resort common areas to change out for a fresher look.
