Can't believe I'm starting another of these threads (I read a few)...but torn...so torn.

I can get Poly Standard or YC Garden for the same price (give or take), room only, for 5 nights in August. Me, DW, and DS9. With been to WDW together twice before (S/D, POR), and used to be AP's at DL when we lived in L.A. We drive to Orlando and never use the buses, which have frequently let us down in the past. DS9 is much bigger on coasters and thrill rides than anything else (he started with DL's Space Mtn Ghost Galaxy at age 3), but sitll likes Pirates, HM, etc., but thinks MK is a bit lacking after years at DL.

I know my pros for both, which seem complementary...

Poly (stayed in '79, '84 and '93)
  • More creative theme to resort and rooms
  • Better CS options
  • Trader Sams (for me!)
  • Great TTC access for multiple routes to MK and relatively easy Epcot assess
  • Good pool and slide...but NOT SAB
YC (never stayed there but have been through several times)
  • SAB...I know my DS9 will love it, he loved the DLH pool (somewhere between SAB and Poly in size...but with multiple slides) so much last October when back out west
  • Walk to World Showcase and all of its restaurants
  • Pretty easy access to DHS and what little it currently offer, but my DS9 is a thrill ride lover and loves RnR Coaster and ToT
Which would you pick? I think Poly is the better resort, but I have a feeling SAB will be the deciding factor. Born and raised in the South, the August heat and humidity don't even faze us, but down time will be at the pool.

YC for all the reasons you listed. Being able to walk to 2 parks is great and the Volcano pool is nowhere near as cool as SAB. Also the pool bar at SAB is better than the one at the Poly :) You can always visit the Poly and stop in Trader Sams!

I voted for the Poly. We've never stayed at YC but have stayed at the BC and while we had a nice stay, the Poly is our favorite. We not only prefer staying in the MK area, but (and I know we are in the minority here), we like the volcano pool at the Poly more than SAB. We thought SAB was ok, but we weren't wow'd by it and would always choose the Poly pool (as well as a few others) over SAB. We also find more of a variety of dining options (both CS & TS) around the monorail than in the Epcot area as we aren't ones who find it convenient to walk into Epcot just to eat. We also like the Poly rooms more as they are quite a bit larger/more spacious.

I vote for YC. It's our favorite because it's such a quiet, laid back resort. Plus, it's proximity to Epcot and HS are amazing. Also, as others have said SAB is a huge plus. IMO it's the best pool Disney has. The MK resorts are such showpieces that they are always busy with non-resort guests checking them out! Honestly, I would save even more money and go with a YC standard view. We saw plenty of trees in ours and some roof. It wasn't bad. Although, I like Poly too (we're staying there this next trip), but only as a compromise we are doing a split stay so I can still get in BC/YC!

I agree 100%. I know people love SAB..but I think the volcano slide (and the views from the pool) are the better option. Personal opinion of course, but swimming while the EWP passes you by, and while Wishes is going off... ok I have to stop before I book another trip ;)

Just did a split stay at both resorts last week and absolutely loved them both. That said if you're planning on spending more time at the resort than the parks I'd pick the Poly. To me the theming and onsite amenities made it a place I would have been perfectly fine spending the entire day at. I also think I'm the rare one who may prefer the pools at the Poly. Add in the bar and restaurant at the Oasis Pool and it's 2 great areas. The slide at SAB was awesome but the rest of the pool was just OK to me. The lazy river was fine but with it's depth I wasn't comfortable letting my 6 year old in there alone. Don't get me wrong I'd stay back at the Yacht Club in a second, but forced to choose I'd have to say the Poly.

We did a split stay with BC and poly in August. They were both lively resorts but BC won for us and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at YC.

SAB abd the walk to WS can't be beat.

DS15 and DD9 loved SAB. They picked BC over poly too.

YC/BC are our favorite resorts. We prefer the Epcot resort area. Our last YC GV room had a view of Illuminations. Couldn't have been more perfect!

YC for us. We love the Poly and eat there often but we love the Boardwalk area at night and the walk to WS. Our kids love the entertainment on the Boardwalk.

Always wanted to stay at the Poly but end up at YC due to location and SAB. Our 9 year old DS just loves the sand bottom pool and spends a lot of time building and digging in the sand area. My DH and I love the balconies to hang out at night, and we also enjoy evenings at Epcot and the Boardwalk. Good luck making your decision, there is no bad choice here (which makes it so hard lol)!

You know...there isn't a bad choice...but both are great, I was surprised to get the low price on Poly, which is the only reason it was a debate.

DS9 voted YC (by a hair), DW did as well. Any of us would be happy with either. Since he's 9 and not out touring on his own yet, we all think we'll get more out of the Epcot resort area. My son views the proximity and access of the WS as an extension of the resort (he remembers it from when we stayed at S/D) — he prefers laid back evenings there over touring the WS in the day when he could be riding coasters — and he's at just the right age for all of SAB to be exciting for him (when I was his age, River County seemed like the greatest thing ever...I had never heard of a water park). We may still go to Typhoon Lagoon for an half day and maybe Blizzard Beach for a half day (you know, if it ever reopens), but to have a mini water park a walk from the room seems ideal.

One day he'll be a 14yo getting in at 1 AM and heading back out at 7 AM just like my brothers and I used to a WDW, and then I'll pick the hotel that appeals to me.

Thank you everyone...not a bad piece of advice in this thread. I'll be interested to see if anyone else chimes in.

BTW, my son's opinion when viewing the room photo is of the YC was that it "looked kinda classy"...but he didn't mean it as a compliment. I think he meant "stuffy."

Sigh...and I am such a big tiki fan (I do miss L.A.)

There's no bad choice here, you will have a wonderful time!
Resort choosing is all about personal preference. On all of my adult only trips (F&W) We always stayed at BC or YC..my 5 year old however chose Poly (Stitch being his fave character def played a part!) when I showed him photos. That being said- BWI also intrigued him. Eventually we will stay at BWI when we focus more on Epcot. He doesn't know about our surprise trip to CR, and I'm hoping he isn't disappointed, but we will be there in December so pools have no bearing on selection, and proximity to MK was my biggest factor...and the fact that we won't constantly walk by a pool resulting in him asking to swim.lol
