Poly or Beach Club for a first timer

I'd done well in selecting CSR for my bf's first time trip in March. He's not a big Disney fan but is going to go with me.

All the downtime has let me think too much about it and what I'll do when discounts hit.

If I was going to splurge and go with a deluxe, Beach Club or Poly? I personally love them both, but my one true love is the Poly. I'm just afraid that's too close to MK for him. (I have reservations at Ohana and Kona, but am interested in Akershus/Trattoria breakfasts).

For me, Poly is really more immersive in Disney than BC just by the very fact that you can see the monorail and MK from the resort. BC is a bit more removed, yet offers the perk of being able to walk to two parks and a ton of restaurants in the area.

We did a Poly/BC split for my BFs first trip, with my kids. He absolutely loved the BC and Epcot so I would go with the BC. Especially for an adult only trip.

I'm taking my mom in a couple of weeks. It's her first time, so I had her look at all the deluxe resorts and pick based on her impression of them through pictures and stuff. She picked the Poly hands down.

So maybe let him check them out and see what he prefers. He might really like the location of the BC. The Boardwalk area across the way is pretty, and the Swan/Dolphin have good restaurants, as well as easy access to Epcot and the World Showcase.

This sounds terrible, but I haven't had much luck getting him to look at anything (hotels, attractions, restaurants). He gets frustrated because he doesn't know what's there, but won't take the time to look (go figure).

I might try again though!

I agree. I love the Poly but on an adults trip I always choose the BC.

Do you think he is going to be happy to walk to Epcot? Is he really into food? Either of those things would make me pick the Beach Club. I honestly don't think the pool is a huge selling point either way, as both resort pools will be overrun with kids. I would actually lean towards the Poly--being able to relax on the beach and watch the fireworks with an adult beverage in your hand, that is one of my favorite things.

Those are good questions. I'm not sure about the walk. I wouldn't think that's a problem if it's only 5 minutes.

He does enjoy food, but I hadn't planned on eating at any of that resort area's restaurants (just in Epcot, maybe Bon Voyage Breakfast). And I have two dining reservations at the Poly, so maybe that helps answer my own question.

I'm planning on doing 2 days at MK (including DAH event) and 1.25 (including evening EMH) at Epcot, but the Epcot plan is a maybe.

I think he'll like Epcot and DHS the most, although the two days at MK seem to be points for the Poly.

Beach Club is better for a "not a big Disney fan" type. Less hectic and crowded. Bigger and much less crowded pool (due to CMs scanning bands for entry, unlike at Poly) to swim in and lounge by. More adult-friendly dining & drinking choices nearby.

He sounds a lot like my fiancé. I took my fiancé on his second Disney trip in May (his first trip was with his family.. they didn't plan ADRs or FP+ and they stayed at the WL). He was reluctant to even go back because he didn't have a good time. My "home" resort is the BC.. so we stayed there and he LOVED it.

He hates having to ride a bus at Disney, so being able to walk to Epcot and HS was a huge plus. We went to Epcot at least once a day to just snack and drink around WS (we were there during Flower and Garden). We also left MK early and did the Boardwalk instead one night. In my opinion, the BC is more romantic.. you have endless dining options at Epcot and the Boardwalk.

Now we are planning our Disney wedding and honeymoon for this April! We are staying two nights at the GF because our ceremony is at 9:30 AM and my fiancé is kind of upset we aren't staying the whole week at the BC. It's his new favorite vacation spot

I would choose BC. If you assume he'll like Epcot and DHS best then why plan the most days at MK and no time at DHS at all? I think if I were trying to convert someone to liking Disney then I would do things I feel they will like so they enjoy the time and want to return.

We'll be there for 5 days. I have a day at each park. One day at Universal, returning for the DAH event at MK, which he likes the sound of because of lower crowds. Epcot EMH in addition to a full day. And our last half day is returning to either Epcot or DHS.

I didn't go into all the details, just noted some things I thought were relevant to hotel choice. But I am trying to tailor the trip to him pretty extensively.

I would choose Beach Club. We weren't blown away by Polynesian (we didn't stay there, but resort hopped to see what all the fuss was about). I liked that the Beach Club was so close to the Boardwalk because we loved walking down the Boardwalk at night. Also, it's hard to pass up a dinner reservation at Beaches and Cream! You've gotta get the kitchen sink and/or the grilled cheese with tomato soup.
