Ok - we're barely three weeks away from our trip and all of a sudden MIL has decided that the animals at AKL are going to bother her "allergies" (this , BTW, is the first I have EVER heard of her "allergies") and she wants to move to the Poly. I love the Poly but I have stayed there a lot and was really excited about AKL. I know all the plusses of the Poly - monorail, restaurants, etc, but we don't spend much time at MK and have a PS for 'Ohana anyway. So what should I do? Poly or AKL? DH says to pretend I called about the Poly and there was no availability, but I would feel really bad lying and anyway, I've already called and there is availability. I've even tried to sell her on GF or CR because I've never stayed there and have always wanted to, but no. DH's other suggestion was that *we* stay at AKL and move his parents to the Poly - he really likes this idea, but this is supposed to be a "family" trip to make up for all the trips DH refused to go on with his parents when he was in high school and college - so that would kind of defeat the point!;)

. . . I am definitely getting at least one massage this trip and going to try to drink my way around World Showcase;) !

I would say AKL.

I haven't heard of the animals bothering anyone. It's not like she is going to be able to reach out off the balcony and touch them.

Has she seen pictures of both resorts?

I think you'll be happy either way. Have you seen some of the reports about mold in some of the Poly rooms? What would this do to her allergies?

IMO, AKL but stay where you are all going to be happy.

The GF is also a good choice. :sunny:

I guess it would depend on who's paying for the rooms. But I would have to agree with floridafam that if you get stuck with a room with mold at the poly (there have been quite a few reported) she would probally be worse off with the allergies. I'm fairly sure they don't allow the animals in the rooms at the AKL so I think she would be safe from zebra dander!!;) :p

If it were me, I'd stay where I want to stay and put the in-laws elsewhere. I know it's a family trip - but you can hook up. This way everyone is happy.

Or, then again, maybe I'm saying this because I'm not wild about my in-laws. I should be fair. But, seriously, that's my vote.

I mean, how often do you go to Disney? I think you should stay at the AKL if that's your heart's desire. The Poly is my favorite and I'm still giving you this advice. That should count for something.

Haha. You can tell her that my DD22 has bad allergies and asthma, and we've eaten at AKL twice, and stood outside and watched the giraffes eat, and she didn't have any problems at all.

We're arriving at the AKL the day after you, so if we see a man, his wife, and a very unhappy older woman with a runny nose saying "I told you so!" between sneezes, we'll know it's you! :rotfl:

I have stayed at both. While I loved the Poly my allergies did not. The Poly is very lush, being on Bay Lake I found lots of morning mist. Mold spores thrive in this kind of climate. I'm not saying there were moldy smells, everything was clean. By the 3th day I was having problems that kept getting worst.

I did not have any problems at AKL. The climate is much drier, and you do not come in contact with the animals. Besides these are not domestic animals, like cats and dogs that shed on furniture and clothing.

My DH has severe allergies and asthma. Can't walk into a house w/ pets without almost ending up in a hospital...weekly shots etc etc.. We have stayed at AKL twice...for a total of 14 nites and never once a problem. I love AKL...it is gorgeous...lie! lie! lie! Go to confession you'll feel better...

Well - I kind of lied. The only thing available at the Poly was LV concierge and as DH and I are paying for our room and this was kind of a last minute trip (meaning we saved no money for it and DH is adamant about not taking any out of savings to pay for "Spring Break") that just wasn't feasible. I did give MIL and FIL that option however. I don't think FIL would care if we slept in the car - he just wants to watch the Braves play! So, AKL here we (I) come.

Thanks for all the kind words. When I talk to MIL today I will tell her all the allergy comments about the Poly - although I am still not convinced she has any "allergy" problems. She all but sleeps in her garden if it's over 40 degrees outside! DH did some sleuthing and found out they have a neighbor who just returned fom the Poly and she and MIL play "keep up with the Joneses" a lot so we think we may have found the source of these new "alllergies." BTW - I don't want anyone to think I am sympathetic to allergies - I had to get allergy shots for most of my life - I am sympathetic to allergies, but not "allergies"

 :p :p

Anyway - even if I had to sleep in the same bed with her it would still be better than last year's spring break! My little sister was a senior in hs and my parents wouldn't let her go to Panama City with her friends, so we volunteered and took six high school girls to PC on Spring Break. NEVER AGAIN. It was about 50 degrees and rained the whole time and my sister got her nose pierced and my mom yelled at ME!

Lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}}}} to you, leighe !

You have put alot into planning this trip and all of your MIL's fretting for a couple of months now!

I agree with the all of the above posters.

Tell her there IS NO availability at the Poly and that's THAT!;)

This should be a very interesting trip report, too, when you get back from this vacation! ::yes::

Like I said, {{{{HUGS}}}}} to you and your DH for doing all of this for his family!
You deserve a medal after all you've been put thru....and probably WILL go thru on this trip!

:wave2:

BambiTambi - Your posts are always so uplifting! Thanks for all the hugs. This trip will be great just because I get to be with DH for an uninterrupted week (he's a basketball coach and we're right in the middle of tourney time right now so I see him about 1 hr a day:( ) and I get to be in WDW! I'm really a very lucky girl in spite of travelling with MIL (who has her fun moments). Some people have to put up with really horrible MIL's and never get to go to Disney!
