Poly or AKL?

Hey everyone,
I've never been to WDW before and am hoping to go on my very first trip! I've been looking at all the hotels and am in interested in staying in either the Poly or AKL. Which one would you suggest? I would love to stay at the Poly but I've read peoples posts about the awful smells in some of the rooms. So, which hotel should i stay in? Are there any other hotels which you would suggest I stay at? Thanks so much!

Hi Minnie.

We have stayed at the Poly 3 times in 3 different long houses and I have never noticed a smell. I am pretty sensative about that kind of stuff and would not hesitate to ask for a room change if it had a foul odor. Also, keep in mind that most of the longhouses have been completely renovated (gutted in fact) within the last year or so.

As to your question, we were faced with the same dilemma. We decided to split our upcoming stay this May between the Poly and the AKL.

If this is your first time, you have just GOT to stay in the Poly! Nothing beats the monorail, the great restaurants, and just the overall awesome ambience of this resort.

I am soooo excited for you!! Go to Tikiman's website and he can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the Poly!! While you are there be sure to eat at O'hana's, and watch the fireworks on the beach in a hammock!! Oh it is going to be so great!

I totally agree - for your first time, the Poly is the way to go!!! We love AKL, but for newbies the monorail access makes it so much easier!

Have a great time planning your trip - for me that is almost as much fun as the trip itself!!!

I checked out tikiman's website..and the poly looks SO beautiful and there's so much great information!! i'm so excited i can barely stand it!!! and i'll be sure to eat at O'hana's!!! yum!

Another vote for the Poly. As much as I love both resorts, for a first time the Poly has a slighter edge. Good Luck.
