I was curious and wanted to see what rooms were still available for the Polynesian :dog2: for our dates this month. I was surprised to see that there were no rooms at all. Is it this busy right now or do you think its because of the renovations going on?

Well, for one thing, August is still busy season for them, since lots of kids still aren't in school until around Labor Day. Also, those renovations may well keep a few rooms off the list of available rooms. Finally, that free dining plan may be packing the resorts in when they might normally start to have some vacancies in late summer.

I was surprised about this also ... we are going late this month and I have been checking vacancy onlin regularly ... rooms have been available until today. I'm thinking that this has more to do with renovations than heavy occupancy, since just about every other resort - including GF - has plenty of rooms available. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

How are you able to check vacancy???

Do you just go to the Disney site and see if they have a room?? But you don't really know how many rooms are available. :confused3

I am from the UK and August is a very popular time for UK visitors. The school holidays here include the final week of July, all of August and the first few days of September. I am busy planning for next Easter hols as the heat was a bit of shock last time we did August - currently 18C and raining here!

Hope you manage to get a booking

MNmom -

When you check for reservations online, or by phone, you are checking for vacancy. You cannot, obviously, determine what occupancy rates are by doing this. It is, however, safe to assume that occupancy rates are fairly low when multiple room categories are still available at multiple hotels. I assumed occupancy is low for late August because virtually every room category is still available at GF, WL, BC, YC, and BW. If occupancy was at or near 100% - as it is in June and July for instance - then these rooms would certainly not be available.

It is only CR and Polynesian that do not have vacancies in late August ... this leads me to speculate that perhaps it is because of the renovations taking place at both hotels. But I certainly don't claim to know that for certain ... just a guess.

Were you checking on-line or phoning in? The reason I ask is because when we were in the planning phase last summer, we went on-line and nothing showed available at the Poly. Then I called and there were openings at all room types: GV, LV, GVC, and LVC.

If you're checking via calling in, then guess it's busy for all the reasons others have listed.

Would the unavailability of one (or 2 at the most) longhouses being renovated cause the entire resort to suddenly fill up? Doesn't sound right to me :confused3 . I'm already worried about the renovation construction being intrusive (I'll be there early Sept.). Also worried about busy parks due to free dining. Hope I don't have to start worrying about a wall to wall people, fully booked Poly too!!!! :earseek:

yes call because I know the CR online said no availability However the CM on the phone said yes to me...then I switched to Poly!! :rotfl: call....

eclectics,

The problem is that none of us know exactly how many longhouses will be renovated at one time. I was told by a manager that only two longhouses will be under renovation at once, but Tikiman has been told by reliable sources that up to four or five longhouses will be undergoing renovation at once. This leads me to believe that at lower occupancy times (late August) they may stop taking reservations in deference to other Disney hotels that have a generous amount of rooms available. Again, I don't know for sure, this is just a guess.

I wouldn't worry about 'wall to wall people' at the Polynesian. If reservations are not being taken due to renovations, then all that will translate to is fewer guests at the hotel.

My thoughts are that due to the renovations at the Polynesian and CR, CRO has begun booking people elsewhere to make sure no over-booking takes place. Just a thought.
