Okay - hubby and I are die-hard Beach/Yacht Club Epcot Resort area fans. We decided to take a trip on 2/9 for 7 nights using the AP rate. Well, BC nor YC was available. Neither was the Boardwalk.

So, we booked the Poly - $199 per night including tax. Not bad. But, we're nervous because every single time we've tried a different resort we haven't been as happy. Tried WL earlier this year.

We have always admired the Poly from afar and thought it to be magical. All Poly fans (especially Tikiman if he's out there): tell us why we'll love it!

How are the rooms???

PamNC

P.S. Be honest - we want the good, bad and the ugly.

I have not ben yet, and I stress yet - 21 days and counting.

But look at it this way. Don't try to compare the Poly to the YC/BC. You know what you love but you say it isn't availbe at the AP rate. If you really wanted to stay YC/BC you could, it would just cost more. So you are choosing to stay the Poly to take advantage of the AP rate. It's an adventure.

The Poly is a different atmosphere and different location. Find the good things. Monorail and boat access. Tropical surroundings. It's WDW - no place is all that bad really. My one and only trip we stayed at ASSp. So this trip is going to be so totally different (Poly Logoon Concierge) but I had a blast before.

Think positive

The only thing you can really compare are the amenities. The rest of the resort is not really comparable. Both are great places to stay but the experience is really different. The rooms are bigger at the Polynesian but if you are used to and really like the light and airy feeling of the Y & B you may find the Polynesian rooms a bit dark. The rooms are not really colorful and have beige and darker tones on the walls and in the fabrics. I loved the bathroom here particularly the layout in the older rooms where the toilet was recessed behind a wall.
You will be walking outside more as there are numerous buildings but the walkways are very pretty and tropical. The feeling is more open because the resorts around Seven Seas Lagoon are so spread apart. You may like this but might prefer being able to walk to all the resorts as it is at the Epcot resort area.
In any case try to not expect it to be the same at all and enjoy the differences.

We really love the Polyneisan, but I haven't stayed at the YC or BC before, so I can't really compare. What I love about the Polynesian is that it is so peaceful. You get on the monorail coming home from MK and things are crazy (& wonderful), then you arrive at the Polyneisan and I just take a deep breath and immediately I start to relax. I love the tiki torches that light up the paths at night, and sitting in the swing on the beach and just taking in the view of Cinderella's castle - oh what a sight!!

I will really be interested in your take on the resort and how it compares to the YC. I guess one of these days we will have to try another resort, but for now I'M HOOKED!

Anyway, how bad could any resort be when you are in Disney World!!!

I hope you enjoy it!!!

I am a fan of the Epcot resorts (about 10+ visits). Early in December I had an AP garden veiw rate at the Polynesian. I did not have much interest in staying at the Poly, but had never stayed at a monorail hotel and decided to give it a try. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

I found the transportation to Epcot and the Magic Kingdom to be very convenient. From the MK we took the big ferry or monorail to TTC and also the launch to the Poly marina. Even though I was there for 6 days I did not have a chance to try and visit the other parks as my DIS friends kept me very busy!

I enjoyed meals at all of the restaurants -- Kona Cafe, Ohana, and Captain Cook. My room was on the 3rd floor of Rapa Nui which is just a short walk away from the TTC. It's also close to a beach area where we watched ELP and Wishes. I enjoyed just strolling around the resort. I did get turned around the first few days as the paths are more of the meandering style.

For me the Polynesian has a more relaxed feel than YC/BC/BWI. I'm very glad that I had the opportunity to explore this resort and would not hesitate to return.

We are just back from 5 nights there! We loved it as much as always.
Heres some of our favorite things...
Walking the grounds, getting the whole feel of the place
Watching Wishes from the beach
Monorail, and walking to TTC...great transportation
Ohana and Kona...YUM
Tambu Lounge...more YUM ;)
Great pool
Listening to the Luau from our room
Walking out to the beach from our room, to check out that gorgeous view
I even like the feel of the rooms...very tropical/Hawaii-like

O.k. . .on the bright side, you will be there with PiperG and her family. LOL. DH, DS6 and myself arrive on the 8th and stay through the 12th, before we head out to catch the Wonder.

We did a land and sea in Dec '01 and also stayed at the Poly. Of course, we don't have anything else to compare it to, but lets just say I can't wait. Everything the previous posters have said is true. Although, I didn't notice the rooms were dark. I just noticed they were BIG, especially the bathroom::yes::

Have a great time and look for us lilly-white minnesotans on the beach!

I'm started to feel excited about the Polynesian - especially if the Piper family will be there. Wear those green ribbons or home depot stickers..we'll see ya' there.

Anyway - keep the comments coming. Isn't there someone out there named Tikiman who knows all about the Poly?

I do think it'll be a totally different experience -

BTDT at BC, BWI, AKL, all concierge. . .also stayed at GF, CBR, POR, ASMu. . .Polynesian is our favorite resort. We love it. . .wouldn't trade it, but do enjoy our stays at the other resorts, too. Don't even try to compare the experiences--we weren't impressed with BC--Stormalong was fine--but there's more to a hotel than the pool. I should also say that our preferred park is EPCOT and we still prefer the Polynesian.

Go with an open mind and try not to compare--they are different experiences completely. . .enjoy the experience!

To me the Polynesian is just the classic Disney resort. The theming is unbeatable. There are tropical plants everywhere and the whole atmosphere is tropical. It goes very well with the Florida climate.

We have DVC and usually just get to VISIT the Polynesian. If they ever build Villas there, I'll be in heaven. Anyway, don't think of this trip as "time that could have been at the Beach Club." Think of it as "getting to know the Polynesian." No matter where we stay, we always spend our last night at the Poly. We have a great meal (at Kona or Ohana) then head down to the beach to watch the electrical water pageant. Then we take a last, round-trip monorail ride. Heaven! There is also no better drink in the World than one of the Poly Pina Coladas... When I sip one and look across the lake toward the castle, I always think to myself "This is one of the best moments of my life."

Can you tell I love this place? The Polynesian has a special magic. Enjoy it!

PamNC, HI! We will be at the Poly 6th-13th! This is our 2nd trip to Poly and we can't wait! We too love the BC! We are DVC members and BCV is our home resort! But, this is our 3rd trip this year (gotta love those AP's! lol!) and we are out of points!!! We also got that great AP rate! And we are sooooo excited! We do love the convenience of the Poly! They have many great transportation options and we love Kona and Ohanas also! The whole ambience at the Poly is a little different! Very laid back and relaxing! Hope you have a great trip! I think you will enjoy the Poly!:Pinkbounc Hope we will see you and PiperG there as well!:Pinkbounc

Okay - you all are wonderful. We're now excited about the Polynesian and we will keep an open mind. And, I'll post a complete report when we return.

Jacksmom - we live in Mocksville, NC - about 30 minutes from you. Wear those green ribbons and we'll see ya - and the lilly-white Pipers. LOL I just hope the pool is warm enough for us in Feb. We've never been in the Winter.

PamNC

PamNC and Jacksmom,

I dug around the closet and found my lime-green ribbons. I will tack a couple onto my straw hat, so that you can identify us.

As I told Jackmom, its myself, DH and DS6. Also, my folks are planning to join us from San Diego.

We typically head back to the Poly beach to watch the fireworks, so if you are around at that time, be sure to look for us!

Because we are doing a land and sea package, we received our "document" package last week. I worked from home one day, and those docs kept staring at me! How is a person supposed to concentrate with a Disney vacation just a month away??? LOL:crazy:

see you soon

Hi Pamnc!
I will not go into my stay at the poly ,but iIwlli say if for any reason you are not happy give th Yacht or Beach a call an d ask them to take you in !! That is what we did and they took us back!!Hopefully you will love the Poly Lots of people do!! But know that if you are not happy there is an alternative!!(people cancel} :)

Thanks to everyone - my husband and I spent two hours on tikiman's site yesterday and we're very excited about the Poly. We've decided to not think about the YC/BC and what we'll miss but about the new adventure at the Poly. Heck, Walt had his hand in this resort so it can't be all bad. And, like the previous poster said, we can always call and switch if we're unhappy.

Piper & Jacksmom - wear those ribbons! We'll see ya on the beach waiting for the fireworks and ELP.

PamNC

P.S. The problem is, how can I concentrate with my vacation so close? I just can't and I think I'm going to bust!!!!!!!!! Hubby and I even played "Polynesian Hangman" last night.
