Poly Luau with DDE Discount - Do I need the card to book?

A quick question for you DDE experts. I am planning to do the Luau with family members in November. We are planning to purchase annual passes and we also have enough people going to the Luau that the Disney Dining Experience card would basically pay for itself with the 20% discount they offer on the late show. Then we would have the card sort of for free for the rest for the trip and also for another trip next year.

My question is whether I need to have the DDE card right now to book the discounted Luau, or can I show them the card before being seated at the show? Will they ask me for some number for the DDE card when I book? Obviously since I am not going to WDW until November, I do not want to buy the DDE card now and waste 6 months of it.

Thanks.

Omigod! Your siggy is hysterical!!!

As for your question, I'm not sure. I think you can tell dining that you have ordered your DDE card and they will apply the discount. Then when you get to the restaurant, you will have to show it. If you don't have it when you're there, they will charge you full price. At least that is my understanding.

Hope this is right and hope it helps.

I had the DDE card last year and I didn't need it to book any of my reservations. I just showed it when I paid my bill.

Just attended the luau last week. They did not ask for the DDE card when I made the reservation. Come to think of it, they didn't ask when we checked in the day of the show either??? VERY nice savings on this event.
You do have to book the 8 pm show in order to use the card.
We were happy to book the later show. At this time of year the early show
is performed before the sun sets. The show is much better in the dark.

Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten that in order to use the DDE card for the Luau or HDD you can only get the discount on the last seating of the evening.

OP: I have read a few threads lately that they folks were charged the full amount when booking, but the total was changed when they picked up the tickets at the resort. I guess it all depends on the CM you talk to.

Thank you to all who replied. I guess I'll have to get ambitious and actually pick up the phone to see what Disney Dining will let me do. But it sounds like we should be able to work something out.
