Poly Location??

Hi, we are from the UK and have booked to stay at the Poly next May through a UK Travel Agent. I understand this makes requesting exact room locations etc alot more difficult.

Does it really matter where your room in situated?? We only have a standard garden room booked, so won't be expecting much in terms of a view - but I was concerned about being too far from the monorail and pools etc. Is it really THAT far to walk anywhere?

(We've stayed in CBR before, in locations some people considered too far from the food court - but we didn't even notice!! - but this time we will have two small children and wondered if that might make a difference??) - what is your experience - is there any BAD rooms to be allocated at the Poly??
Is the worst view still OK or should I be prepared incase we are given a carpark view???

For us room location matters A LOT We always book a garden view, and have found Fiji to be a great location, our favorite. The cove side gives a view of the GF, and a little bit of the water as well, and the marina side has a nice view too. Fiji is also great for just location. Short walk to the GCH, pool, and boat launch.

Hi,
We were at the Poly in July and stayed in Rapa Nui which is one of the furthest longhouses from the GCH and the pool and such. We have two kids who are 7 and 4 and I was a little concerned about the walk. But I have to say that I really really enjoyed the walk to the longhouse each time. The landscaping is so beautitful that it just made it very enjoyable. Our kids didn't find it a problem at all. We were on the side of Rapa Nui that faces another longhouse, it was a garden view, and again it was very pretty. We actually enjoyed being away from the center of things. Our room was perfect, and I couldn't believe how big the rooms are. Our mousekeeper, Gladys, was exceptional. She even sat with our kids one morning and made these cute little character dolls out of washcloths for them. Staying at the Poly was simply the best. The monorail was so convenient. It would be very difficult to convince myself to stay someplace else when we go back. I hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy it as much as we did

Location is a personal preference. We have two small children and we do fine.
http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/polymap.htm If you look at the PR map link provided the resort is composed of multiple buildings. The main focus of course is the Great Cermonial House, composed of the front desk, restaurants, cocktail lounge, shops, snack bar and monorail station. Many people prefer to be close to this building. Note: If you have a stroller there are times you may need to fold the stroller up to get on the monorail due to crowds. The Luau is held on the West side of the resort a Luau Cove near the walkway to the GF. Expect to hear music and see crowds the nights of the luau. Right out from the main building is the main pool and Motor Launch dock which is another way to get to the MK or GF. (If you have a stroller it will need to be folded-up.)There is also a walkway from the far East side of the resort where you can walk to the TTC (soime might consider this a long walk from the West side of the resort) to get on either the ferry (you never have to fold a stroller using the ferry) or Epcot Monorail.

We have been staying at the Polynesian for quite a while and are working on our 12th visit. Our favorite longhouses are Samoa and Fiji as far as garden view rooms go and are both close to the pools and the GCH. Samoa (volcano pool side) has a great view of the lagoon and the Grand Floridian. Fiji (marina side) has a great view of the lagoon, Space Mountain, and the Contemporary Resort. The other side of Fiji has a view of Luau Cove. The Polynesian is not a very large resort. You could walk from one end to the other in about seven minutes. The walk to the TTC from the most distant longhouse is ten minutes (give or take). There really is not a bad location. Once you get there and find you just do not like your room, ask to be moved. It may take a day or two, but the Poly staff will work with you. Have a great flight and vacation.

All of the longhouses have their own advantages and disadvantages. The Polynesian is not as spread out as the Caribbean Beach Resort.

We actually had "car park" view (aka parking lot view) in Rapa Nui last month. Was it the "best" view we've had in 10 stays at the Polynesian? No, but it was still pretty nice and the convenience to the TTC, the larger room and double sinks in the bathroom outweighed the "better views" that could have been had.

So don't worry too much about which building you end up in. If you get your heart set on staying in one particular building you will likely be setting yourself up for disappointment.
