Poly Irma Water Damage

I've read online that the Poly was the most damaged by Irma & I'm concerned that the water damage may lead to mildew in the rooms.

There were reports from guests staying there during Irma that told of water coming in through sliding doors, hallway doors & even the roof.

Has anyone that's returned recently experienced mildew covered rooms, either visually or even a strong musty smell?

My child is very allergic to mold--so more concerned than typical.

I haven't been to poly since Irma but if you haven't put in your room specs yet I would ask for a second floor room hoping that there is no water damage at that height other than if it came in through a ceiling. I will say, if you have the slightest issue with your child's allergies that's a major concern, perhaps call WDW in advance and maybe they can add a special note to your reservation as well. Hoping to avoid a water damaged room.

Asking for a second floor room won't necessarily help in the OPs case. We were staying at BLT during Irma and spoke to some CMs who were on the ride out crew staying at the Contemporary. They mentioned water damage to rooms caused by water entering from around the sliding balcony doors. It wasn't all water entering on the ground floor from flooding. It was from water being blown against the doors, even on the higher floors of the resort. While I don't know specifically about the Poly, I have heard the damage there was more extensive including roof damage.

I do agree the OP should call and have the allergy noted on the reservation. Then follow up with the front desk when you arrive at the Poly.

Thanks for the replies. I will call & ask if they can note the allergy--great suggestion.

If anyone has returned from a recent trip & noticed a problem, please post. TIA!

When we travel with our niece who is seriously allergic to molds we always request a VIP cleaning. She has never had an issue when we do that. We sometimes have to wait a little bit for the room to be ready but more than worth it.

Wonder why the Poly seemed to get hit the worst of all the resorts?

I would guess age plus design. I don't have any proof that the Poly was hit worse than every other resort. Just when I was following the Irma threads after the storm passed, the Poly was the one resort I saw with pictures posted of damage to the actual buildings, not just the vegetation around it. But when you consider the force of that storm, I felt even the damage to the Poly was much less than I expected. It was truly remarkable how well the resorts and parks held up through it.

Wow I've never heard of that. Can you tell me what that is?

A deep cleaning of everything. Carpet, surfaces, bedding. It really helps. We usually have to wait a little longer for the room to be ready but it's worth the wait.

I agree about how well the resorts held up. I was very impressed and might even consider going thru with a vacation there during a potential storm now.
