Anyone have experience booking a garden view room at the Poly through AAA? I'm staying in May (18-22). Should I expect a room at the furthest corner of the resort? Should I expect a room without a balcony? Any help/info is greatly appreciated!

Just make sure your AAA agent notes your requests on your reservations and you have as good a chance at a great room as anyone. We booked thru AAA in 2006 at YC and had a wonderful room with a view of the Boardwalk. No difference at all as long as he/she is willing to note your requests.

Garden view rooms (irregardless of where they're booked) look out into tropically landscaped areas of the resort, which do include walk-ways, monorails and sometimes parking lots. Garden view rooms are literally spread around the resort, so if you'd like to be close to the Great Ceremonial House (main building) be sure to request such.

If you'd like a room with a patio/balcony, request a room on the first or third floors.

Heh - just because you are getting a discount doesn't mean Disney looks at your reservation and says "Banish this person to the dungeon!!" There are very few people who pay rack rate.

I just booked the Pop Century for next month with a AAA discount. I put in my request for a king bed. I have no idea if I will get it but if I don't, it's not because I'm staying there at a discount.

Two years in a row, we've stayed at the Poly with an AAA discount. Both times, we requested specific buildings (Samoa and Tokelau). Both times our requests were met. Just make the request. You have as much chance as anyone else getting it.

Mind if I ask what the discount was? We're planning a short trip in September, and are considering Poly or CR, depends on how the discounts are. I want to get a sense of how good AAA discounts are. You can PM if you'd like.

We had a garden view a few years back, and it was beautiful. We asked for (and got) Samoa, had a nice view of the volcano pool. The resort in itself is just beautiful, and it looked to us that all of the views would be gorgeous.

Thanks.
Julie

Count my family in as paying rack rate, never been lucky enough for a discount with my dates.

We always stay garden view at the Poly and request 3rd. flr. Aotearoa on the monorail side, we like watching it go by our room.

Julie: I just noticed your signature... congratulations!!! My son is adopted from Korea-- what an amazing experience, huh???

Anyway, here you go, taken from www.mousesavers.com:

"American Automobile Association (AAA) and Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) members qualify for "room only" discounts almost year-round, though there are a limited number of rooms available for each date. You can generally save about 10-20% at the Disney resort hotels, depending on the season.

In general, the discounts run as follows:

During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Regular Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Peak Season and Summer Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.

The only time AAA/CAA discounts don't usually apply is Holiday Season (around Christmas) at the Value and Moderate resorts.

You don't have to book AAA/CAA rates through the Auto Club. Room-only reservations with an AAA discount can be booked directly through the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or a travel agent who specializes in Disney travel. Just ask if there is an AAA or CAA discount for your dates and resort.

AAA/CAA rates for all of the following year are usually released in the summer. 2008 AAA/CAA "room only" discounts were released on August 5, 2007."

And I bet that MOST people pay rack rate, unaware that discounts and PIN numbers even exist.
