Are any of the Poly buildings totally non-smoking? I have a little one with asthma/allergies, and we are trying to figure out what our options are.

We stayed in concierge at the Poly once, and at that time one of the floors was smoking. Is concierge still a mix of smoking and non-smoking? Are the suites smoking optional? Thanks!

Aotearoa, Fiji, Samoa, Rarotonga, Tokelau and Rapa Nui are all non-smoking. Hawaii has smoking on half the 3rd floor. The suites are mixed like the one bedroom princess is non-smkoing and the two bedroom is smoking optional.

Thanks for getting back to me. Have you stayed in the Hawaii building recently? Can guests smoke in the lounge?

Guests are not allowed to smoke inside any areas other than the actual smoking optional room. No smoking is allowed in the concierge lounge, desk area or any areas of the GCH.

So if we were to request a first floor room away from the smoking rooms, do you think we would be ok or is it better just to book a room in a non-smoking building? On our past trips, Disney has been great in honoring our non-smoking requests.

We visited the Poly twice on our trip from 3/1 to 3/13/06 for the luau and to pool hop (we are DVC members). Tikiman, are there any plans to do any rehab work on the pool? It looks great, but we are BCV DVC members and from time-to-time, Disney does close Stormalong Bay for repair. Also, any word on the Captain Cook rehab? Will it be in 2006?

My 6 year old summed up the Poly very well saying, "Now I feel like I am on vacation" as we walked through the grounds to the luau!

Be prepared though as just because it is non smoking doesn't mean people won't. I've been to the Poly twice in which I had smokers right next to me and the whole building was supposed to be non smoking. I called the front desk but they only offered to move me!

I don’t see a problem with being in a room of a mixed (smoking and non-smoking) on a different floor but it is a random thing. You could get a heavy smoker that keeps the door open or smokes on the balcony but you could get someone who smokes on a balcony of a non-smoking room. I understand your concern since I have asthma (since birth) and I am affected by the slightest amount of smoke but there is no guarantee even if you are in an all non-smoking building.

The pool was just drained at the beginning of the year for normal maintenance so there is no other plans for closing for repairs. Captain Cook’s is being worked on now with it remaining open. When they have to work on the area that is now CC’s they will have to relocate it for a while. I was told a time but it is not confirmed so I will not post it here. CC’s and all the other rehab should be done by the end of this year.

So Tikiman..
While I was at Poly this past week..I noticed a part of the building next door to Capt. Cook's that had sheets over the windows, as such. At one point, the sheets fell off and I could see inside...but it just looked like a storage area. Will this be the new location for CC's?

That is what I am told. I can say with great confidence that they would not just take that area of the GCH and make it storage. They are keeping very quiet about progress on CC’s.

Hi Tikiman,

We will be staying at the Poly for the first time this summer :teeth: . I would love to stay in a new room but love the location of Tokelau and the other building that begins with a T, it's name is escaping me right now  . Are chances pretty slim these two buildings will be finished by July?

I'm sorry if I'm hijacking this thread by asking.

Since information on Tokelau and Tahiti refurbishment is hard to come by and I had to guess from what little I know right now I would say there is a better chance that either building will not be done by July but that does not mean it is impossible. Also from what I know I would expect Tahiti to be done first. Remember these are the largest buildings at the Polynesian so they will not get done as fast as the others.
