Poly Expansion Watch

I'm hoping the new building will have its own monorail stop. Probably never happen but a guy can dream. It will have its own pool, lobby, restaurants, etc so hopefully that won't affect Poly 1 that much but I have no idea.
That Poly monorail station is going to be crazy busy, because I don’t see this one getting it’s own monorail station. And the restaurant(s) at Poly2 better be good, because the dining options at Poly now are really crowded and hard to book. This makes me feel like Poly2 will be a separate association.

I don't see them putting a separate monorail station in for this resort. The monorail station distance between Poly and GF is already kind of short (about 1/2 mile). Putting in another stop is just plain silly, even if it was free instead of the millions of dollars to build it, and the money to staff and maintain it going forward.

I'm actually a little surprised that they didn't announce that, as part of the project, they're going to demolish the Aotearoa longhouse, since that longhouse is going to completely lose all the ocean view rooms and would provide a lot of space to fit the new DVC building in between the monorail and the Seven Seas Lagoon. It would also allow a shorter walk to the grand ceremonial house and the monorail because the new building could be moved a LOT closer without Aotearoa being there.

I just hope if there's new Studios, they don't lose any square footage. I love the size of the current ones and Bay Lake Tower's tiny studios are not it.

If it's basically Polyflections, I'm ok with that. I'm hoping it has its own monorail stop, not sure how realistic that is
Not likely, they didn’t add a monorail stop for VGF1, so not one for Polyflections…. Unless they put one in for both. VGF1 and Polyflections will be sort of next to each other, on each side of the wedding pavilion. 🤔

look alikes?

Anything but affordable housing....

My post was a sarcastic post just on how generic the building looks and it just matches what's been popping up all around the country.

I just watched this great video by Wendover Productions that talks about the homogenization of architecture in America and it goes in depth about the surge of "5 over 1" building design, which is essentially what this new Poly building seems to adhere to.

Just look at the Gran Destino and Riviera Towers. Gone are the days where you have elaborate architecture... now it's just a generic structure with themed accents.

Anyway, I am truly hoping that this really is just a placeholder concept art because it really breaks with the aesthetics of The Poly.

Love Wendover's channel.

I agree. This new poly building looks terribly out of place with the other buildings at the Poly. While I'm excited for more poly rooms, I really don't like the design. This looks like it could go in any city. Theming is one of the things that makes Disney so special.

Yes, I understand. My post was in regard to how expensive the generic concept has become. Although I like the rooms at Riviera, I dislike the concept and would never purchase there. But shiny and new always attracts buyers.

Does anyone remember when there was talk of another (regular hotel) building at Poly well before they converted the 3 DVC buildings? Maybe I'm imagining concept art with the same or similar architecture as the original buildings?

Unfortunately theme has gone out the window the last 5 to 10 years in many aspects of Disney. Look right next door to the Polynesian lobby for example #1.

Im curious as to the design of what you're referring to as I wasn't paying too much attention to WDW resorts back then.

I'm unfamiliar with the Poly for the most part... did they renovate the main lobby of Poly in recent years? I remember years ago going to Poly for a rez at Ohana and I thought it was great but my memory is rather faded.

I guess for lack of a better description, the Polynesian style with the beams crossed in the air and the dark wood look. Similar if not the same as the exterior of the old buildings.

Yes, they took out the mountain in the lobby. When you entered you walked either left or right as there was a huge mountain/volcano/garden area in the center taking up a large amount of space. The ukelele player would be standing and playing in front of this around checkin time.

Outside there were also Koi swimming in a stream as you walked to the doors. They've been gone longer than the lobby decor.

I was very close to buying resale at the Poly before VGF2 released. I'm glad I didn't. The allure of Poly (to me, my opinion only) is the laid back, slow paced Island feel. I think a huge 7ish story tower would ruin the visuals and feeling completely. I love the Riviera because it's a compact, high rise building- that's the vibe it is going for. The Poly didn't need that feeling, it's a different product. High rises don't invoke the "island feeling" to me, even though yes, they do exist there. Just my opinions again.

Interesting... I did find the traffic from spirit of aloha to be quite annoying as a poly guest. is that a new pool as well to the left?
There's mention of an infinity pool. Wonder if it will be big enough as the pools already feel overcrowded there.
