Poly DVC just announced.

I had read on another thread they were doing very odd room types - as in studios and grand villas but no in between? I think that would deter many buyers.

Hopefully I can just sneak in on my AKV points but looking forward to see the progression of this! Love the Poly!

Not for us. We love the Polynesian, but it's just too expensive to stay there. I am guessing the points will be expensive and it will require a lot of them. When we do join DVC it will be at one of the older once most likely.

I do think it's a good idea for Disney though. There are a lot of families that vacation at the Poly and I'm sure there will be a lot of interest.

"Construction on the Polynesian project began this month, and completion is estimated to be in 2015. In addition to the Disney Vacation Club project, other guest areas within Disney's Polynesian Resort will undergo refurbishment. More information and project details will be shared at a later date."

This basically jives (to the letter) with what Tikiman has been reporting for months.

As I'm currently booked for May of 2014, I'm interested in the timing and extent of the refurbs to the "other guest areas" (it's now common knowledge, thanks to Tikiman, that these "other guest areas" will include the Nanea pool, GCH, and the area in between, but still no official word on when and to what extent specific things will happen in specific areas).

Interesting news. Probably a good thing, just as long as it doesn't ruin the resort like that monstrosity BLT ruined the CR. I feel bad for everyone who missed the CR in its prime. The 90's was a good time to visit CR. :cloud9:

What amazes me is I always thought the Poly was insanely popular. Why remove rooms from general inventory? With CR and Poly they are reducing Deluxe room inventory.

Maybe they will put up another Deluxe? Wasn't there a rumor going around that they were going to build a Mediterrean style deluxe, like on the Greek Islands or something?

That spot of land between the TTC and Contemporary has long been rumored a location for a Mediterranean themed resort... but they keep building DVC for the immediate ROI.

we too are booked for May 2014, should consider a different resort? you think this will interfere with enjoyment!

If the press release is correct and if they are in fact turning Tahaiti into a DVC resort then I am assuming that Disney has not been booking any rooms in Tahaiti for some time now. This will make a tight room availability even worse for the next 18 months and beyond as it will take about 144 rooms permanently off line.

Plus I would not want to be staying at any of the houses next to Tahaiti for the next 18 months while construction is ongoing.

As a DVC owner for 7 years, I passed on AKL, VGC, BLT and VGF but not too sure if I could pass on the Poly and as far as pricing is concerned, if you thought the VGF pricing was high, you ain't seen nothing yet.....

I just posted on the main Poly thread that I switched to CR garden wing.

Just got tired of stressing about this.

Still planning ADRs for Kona and 'Ohana (assuming they are open).

Tahiti will add 143 rooms to the mix and with Rapa Nui converting and the 20 added bungalows it will make about 250 DVC rooms available.

Polynesian is "our" resort - we have never stayed anywhere else. However, when our 4th child turns 3 there will be too many of us to stay there. I love that the Poly is building the bigger grand villa style condos that will hold larger families, however we could never afford it. I am not even sure we could afford to rent enough points to stay there! I have to imagine they will be insanely expensive being right on the beach like that. I just hope that aesthetically the resort won't change too much.

Have been wishing for this for a long time! Can't wait to add on to SSR and BLT points!

Tikiman, I knew you were right! You helped us plan our initial Poly vacation in 2001.

Isn't this the only deluxe resort that does not have DVC??? What will they do now?? Think Disney will start on the moderates next??

We more than likely would not buy into it, even though I am ecstatic that the Poly is finally getting a DVC resort. The only reason why we won't buy into it is because we already own at BLT. However, I would most definitely use both of my BLT and SSR points to stay there :goodvibes. I can't wait to see the progression of this.
