Decisions, decisions. Is the Poly Concierge worth it? I'll be going with DH, DS - 4, DS - 8months.

I'm thinking Lagoon View or Lagoon View Concierge - hopefully with a view of MK. I need to impress DH - he's not much of a Disney Fanatic. The last few times we went, we were with other people and he didn't enjoy himself that much. Basically, he cringes when I mention Disney :(

So, this year we are going by ourselves and I want to show him what a great time Disney really is..

With that in mind, do you get your money's worth with the Concierge room?

We love the Poly consierge - especially with little kids. We thought it was worth the money because we had a nice relaxing breakfast every morning in the lounge and then had easy transportation to the MK. It's a very peaceful resort IMO. We also watched the fireworks from the lounge in the evening or on the beach. They also have a nice kids table in the lounge and a TV with Disney shows or movies.

The consierge building is scheduled for rehab, so depending on when you are planning your trip the location might be different, but still just as nice.

No one but you can decide if it's worth it or not for you. The list of concierge perks at the Poly have been discussed repeatedly for the past couple weeks, I'm sure you could easily find several threads about this, but here's a brief run down:

Pre-planning assistance and advice.
Free stroller rental from the concierge, subject to availability.
Cold breakfast items each morning.

Snacks and drinks throughout the day.
Wine and appetizers before dinner.
Dessert and cordials in the evening.
Robes in room.
Upgraded toiletries.
Free bottled water and soda, you are encouraged to take some to the parks with you.
Great views.
Nice lounge area to spend rainy afternoons in.
Close proximaty to both pools.

I'm sure others will add more.

Anne,

I've never seen the stroller rental mentioned. Is that specific to the Poly or do some of the other concierge's offer that as well. That seems like a pretty neat perk to me.

As for the soda and water, do you just walk up and take them? I don't know if I would feel right doing that. Don't want to seem like a "hoarder" for lack of a better word. They really encourage you to take them to the parks?

Thanks,
Liz

They do have free stroller rentals at Poly consierge - not sure about the other resorts.

People come into the lounge with trays to take food back to their room so you should not feel bad about taking water or soft drinks with you. You paid for this perk. :D

thanks twinmom-

I too am a twin mom. I have 15 year old boy/girl twins and a 4 year old son and a 2 year old son.

I didn't know about the stroller rental. That's pretty cool.

There have been so many posts on this board about the abuse of the concierge level, that I was a little concerned about taking stuff out of the lounge for fear of reprisals or derogatory stares.

But, if they do encourage you to take them to the parks that's awesome.

Thanks again,
Liz

Hi Liz! My twins are identical boys (7). The stroller rental is nice and don't worry about taking the food - like I said - you paid for that. They also are constantly replenishing so no one should get upset over you taking your share. Your kids will love the Poly pool.

You might want to call the consierge desk before you go to see what the availability of the strollers are. I don't know if it's first come first serve. We always bring a stroller for our little one just in case.

:D

The free strollers are only at the Poly in my experience...although my DS is a few days shy of 17, so it's not something I've ever needed--I don't think I could shove his 5'11" frame into one LOL! Keep in mind that they are subject to availability. If I were bringing young'ens, I'd haul along my own stroller from home for a ton of different reasons. BTW--They are not doubles, they are the three wheeled jogging stroller types of things. (Hope that makes sense, it's been a long time since I did strollers)

As far as the water, yes, they will walk up to you and literally put it in your hand and tell you to take it for the park. It's out and iced in a big barrel starting first thing in the AM. You wouldn't be considered a "hoarder" for taking a bottle for each person in your group...they'll almost make you feel guilty if you don't!

I will,

I actually just bought an lightweight one for my little guy, but I know the 4 year old will eventually want to ride. Maybe I'll only have to carry one with me on the plane.

Thanks Anne,I wouldn't do a double anyway. Did on our last trip only because my older guys were only 13 and went off on their own for some of the rides.

This trip I'll also have my MIL so I'll have enough hands to do 2 strollers.

That's great about the water. I always bought bottles and refilled in the parks, but I really don't care for the Florida water taste.

Do they also offer you soda and juice boxes?

Yes! All Coke products though, FYI in case you're a Pepsi drinker.

Unless this has changed recently, you have a refrigerator in your room at no additional charge. (Ironically, you usually don't need it, as you can get most cold items in the lounge.)

There is no problem with taking food & drinks from the lounge in polite quantities. In particular there is nothing wrong with taking one water bottle per person as you head to the parks. Concierge lounges at other resorts may have different attitudes, but that's how it is at the Polynesian.

Is it worth it?

With rack rates garden view concierge costs $90-$105 per night more than ordinary garden view. But with some discounted rates, it can cost as little as $50 more. To me, it is clearly worth the extra $50, but $100 is not so clear.

Keep in mind that half of the concierge rooms are lagoon view concierge, which is even more expensive.

Will you get your money's worth?

In terms of hard goods and strict accounting, no. You generally will not save money or "come out ahead". Concierge is based on a higher level of service and amenities, and is not intended to be cost-effective. But it is nice, and a great way to splurge!

Thanks to everyone for the great info!!!

I just called and unfortunatly the LV Concierge is all booked the week we want to go :(

I'll keep trying.

Thanks again. The info on these boards are great!!!!!

Lizzie, Strollers are first come first served and go quickly.:(

Thanks Laurie

I guess I'll have to call as soon as I make up my mind about the stroller. DH wants to take 2 from home so we have them for the wait at the airport.

We'll see.

I don't agree with this statement across the board. For a family of five, breakfast at Captain Cooks will run at least $35 with nothing more than cereal, milk, juice and coffee. It could be as high as $50 or more. If you have a couple glasses of wine and appetizers before dinner that can save another $40. Ditto for cordials and deserts after dinner. Add to that free strollers, free bottled water and soda and snacks, plus perks like being able to e-mail the concierge to make PS rather than spending $ on phone calls, and the little things like having robes in your room, turndown service and often the best room/view in the house, and it can be VERY worthwhile.

If you are the type of visitor that is up at the crack of dawn to go to parks, and not back to the room until midnight, and uses it to sleep and shower, then no, concierge is not right for you. but if you enjoy spending time in our room or at your resort, then it's worth considering.

Until recently, both our kids were in strollers. We frequently stay in Poly Conc. and in our experience the strollers are often taken or broken or in disrepair when we are there. This is not an indictment of the Poly but just the situation when we were there. I would bring your own strollers or get them at the parks for use there. If you do decide to use the Poly strollers and they are all gone, you can ask Concierge to reserve one for you when the next one is returned. They keep the strollers either right beside the first floor stairway to the lounge or in the back near the windows. Take a peak and see the selection. Good luck. We love the Poly! Threehearts

you'll have a great time!
If youhave lagoon view booked, You'll definatley have a MK view! the lagoon view at the Poly are imho, the best view on WDW Property!
The lounge is great, concierge is addicting, you'll enjoy it.
Dont feel funny about taking water and soda, that is why it is there, for your convenience,
as erikthewise said - and I quote:
"There is no problem with taking food & drinks from the lounge in polite quantities. In particular there is nothing wrong with taking one water bottle per person as you head to the parks. Concierge lounges at other resorts may have different attitudes, but that's how it is at the Polynesian"

have a great time!

Laura :)

OK, I got my ressie switched to LV Poly Concierge :teeth: . I've been reading information on the rooms at Poly.

There seems to be various opinions that the Hawaii building is not nearly as nice as say Tahiti because it's older. I've also read that the rooms are MUCH smaller in Hawaii (about the same size as WL rooms).

Anyone stay at the older buildings and also the newer buildings?

Forgot to add that we will be there 5/10 - 5/18.
