The poly conc. will be closed for refurbishment and willbe set up in the Tahiti Bldg when we are there in Aug. Has anyone ever stayed there or would you stay at another con. resort instead. Thanks, Liz

I would stay there in a heartbeat. The beach in front of Tahiti is very quiet and has a wonderful view of the MK. There is a smaller parking lot nearby that is not as crowded as the main one. The food and service will certainly be as good as ever. The rooms are larger, the TTC is a quick walk. It's a little farther to the GCH and the pools but the building is right next to Hawaii so it is no big difference.

I will be there in June and I was wondering about the lounge area. Where is it going to be? Is there a place with large windows to see the fireworks? Will we have the same experience as we would if we were in Hawaii? I kinda worry about being away from the main pool and GCH. We have a 5 and 7 year old, and I know we will spend alot of time in both of these areas. I just want my first concierge experience with Disney to be fabulous!!!:)

Don't know how they will set up the lounge area but don't worry about the location. It will probably take you two or three extra minutes to get to GCH or the pool.....walking amid beautiful landscaping. The Polynesian just isn't that big. Once you have your room look at a map and figure the shortest path. The paths are winding so it might vary. Walking along the lake is probably the fastest way to the volcano pool. Don't worry....it'll be great.

We were surprised at how compact the resort is. After studying the map & worrying about buildings and room locations, we figured out that unless you want a specific view, it just doesn't matter where you are! All of the buildings have their advantages.

You'll have a great time! :)

Plibster, No I called today and there is not a viewing lounge for the FW. My concern was for the food and beverage and checkin amenities. Will they be the same. Renovations begin 6/1/03 through sept. Liz W

In the mail today I received a letter from Polynesian concierge explaining the rehab scheduled for 6/1 through 9/25/03.

Food service will remain the same according to correspondence (not the official letter) I've had with concierge staff members. The staff is very aware of the need to provide a quality experience with the rehab of Hawaii--I'm sure they will be able to live up to expectations. ;)

I'll second and third the kudos for Tahiti--we've stayed there in a LV before we discovered concierge in the mid-90s. It was a nice location--not as terrific as Hawaii, but lovely nonetheless.

I'm keeping an open mind despite the lack of viewing room for the fireworks. We are usually outside for those anyway (or in the park). Have fun. . .

There will be a desk on the second floor to register and the lounge will be on the third floor. There might be a desk with a greeter on the fist floor. There will be no viewing of the lagoon on the 3rd floor but the food and service should remain the same. They will be moving the tables and the big TV over to the Tahiti longhouse.

Are those non-smoking ground floor LV rooms blocked by trees? From the pics on your website it looks like they might be??

Thanks!

When I was in Tahiti I was on the east end towards the TTC and I did not have any issues with trees blocking the view. There are a few along the beach but they are not so close together that you cannot see the lagoon. The photo below showing that side of Tahiti looks like the trees are blocking but the big trees are near the path to the beach entrance and are not in front of the rooms. There is a line of bushes but I would not say they were that in the way. I like that area very much for walking out to the beach. Go to my maps page and look at the aerial view of the Polynesian and you can see a view from above of the tree line in front of Tahiti.

I'm skipping concierge this summer. We do GVC so having that great LV won't do much for us. We really enjoy sitting in the lounge just relaxing and looking out at the great view. Yes the Polynesian is very small, but when you have 3 young kids (1,3 &7 at the time) you can't beat the location of the Hawaii longhouse. There are so many times when we would be out at the pool and one of the kids wanted this from the lounge or that from the room and it was great to be right there to get it. I think I just got to spoiled;) We always go in the summer and you are bound to get caught in a down pour. I want to be as close to the GCH as possible when that happens. One of the reasons that we did do concierge is that we were guaranteed the Hawaii longhouse and like I said you can't beat the location when you have 3 in tow. I look at staying in concierge as a bunch of perks and that is a major one. Many people could probably care less where it's located. Many who do LV feel it will be great. We for one don't spend the extra money for a LVC room. When it's hot and the kids are tired it's so nice to know your room is a bit closer to the boat and GCH.If we do end up at the Polynesian and don't do concierge knowing our luck we'd probably end up in Rapa Nui:eek: I'm sure they will do a great job. We have always enjoyed our stay and would miss some of the concierge staff. I will be anxiously awaiting the reviews:)

Thanks for the great advice. I also have 2 small kids and as I do love the location of Hawaii right now I am leaning on staying there anyway. Although I have not tied AKLconcierge. Did to BC Con. and was not as thrilled with theirs as poly. So for now Poly in Tahiti in aug. Liz

We are having a hard time with the building change but it is still not that far to everything. We thought about staying elsewhere but just can't seem to do it.

Just remember the boat and the pool is another 2 minutes down the beach from Tahiti. I use the TTC quite often and I loved being close to it. With concierge I spend very little time grabbing quick snacks from the GCH. The only time I ever had to go to the GCH is for dinner or breakfast and I don't see how adding on a few minutes to my walk to go to dinner or breakfast would bother me. I was even there once with a foot problem and after a long day at the parks I could hardly walk and I still never found walking to anywhere in the resort to be long.

Did you ever see my report?

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=230951

I liked the AKL very much and the concierge was nice but not quite as helpful as the Polynesian. We asked them to check on a few things and they never got an answer for us and I was not real happy with not having the soda and water bottles out but the food was great and the lounge was very nice. Other than that there was no advantage to the concierge like a better location or view. Not that I would not do concierge again if I returned to the AKL. I would recommend to everyone that they try it.

You wait until you have kids;) One of the reasons that we enjoy the Polynesian so much is because it is a small resort and the grounds are beautiful. I just like to make my vacation as easy as possible and if I don't have to hear my kids whinning about walking back to the room all the better:) If it were just me and my dh I would enjoy staying in a longhouse further out to have that feeling of seclusion. It is a small resort and everything is very close, I just got spoiled with the location of the Hawaii longhouse. When we stayed at the BWV or the AKL and the room is a hike they don't complain because at least the hike is in AC:p Plus my kids would probaly freak out about not staying in the Hawaii longhouse. They enjoy knowing that this is where we stay when we go to WDW. Last year we had a ground floor GV room and my ds freaked out because we always have a second floor room. Donna was kind enough to get us a second floor GV room.

I have 3 kids and one is handicapped, it's not that bad. Try walking through the buildings if you need ac.:D
