Poly Club Level Question

We are currently booked at the Yacht Club Club Level to check in this coming Friday. I'm really considering changing to the Poly Club level. (Honestly I want the GF Club Level as that is my favorite but my oldest son wants to stay at some place different as we were at the GF last time he traveled with me...but I digress.)

I will have four kids with me so access to the Club Level food offerings is important. Two of the kids are large teenagers (17 year old hockey player and 16 year old football player) so constant access to foods, snacks, and drinks is a huge benefit for us. They eat constantly.

My question is: How much of the Poly Club Level offerings have a Polynesian flavored flair to them? My 16 year old does not care for non-traditional foods. He prefers standard American style everything.

Everytime we talk about making this last minute change he expresses concern over the food offerings.

Probably not the answer you want to hear, but all of the "special" food offerings in the Poly CL lounge have some sort of ethnic flair. Except for the Uncrustables, Goldfish, and snack foods, the evening offerings change nightly and vary....from things like sushi to spring rolls to asian slaw and pulled pork. You might like it, but from the sounds of the likes of those hungry teens, they may not?

When we were there most of the evening snacks had a Poly flair - pulled pork, udon noodles, spring rolls, sushi etc.

There were a few traditional snacks like cheese and crackers each night but the special items that changed each night were poly inspired.

I was also suppose to check in The Yacht Club CL this Tues but once I got the letter the pool will be closed I moved to The Poly CL...I can write what they offer on Tues....so excited

You are probably better off where you are, but if you were looking for a resort in the MK area with standard "Americanized" offerings I think the WL best fits the bill.

The Poly's concierge food features a lot of tropical "flair" -- pinapple, coconut, mango, etc. My kids especially liked the pog juice which I've not seen offered at the other concierge clubs we've patronized [Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Grand Floridian & Contemporary -- we've not been in the Animal Kingdom Lodge's as they've a occupancy limit of 4].

My CL food winner is the Yacht Club because at breakfast they offer boiled eggs which I used to make a sandwich with the little jar of mayo the staff gave me. Second star is the Grand Floridian [Sugarloaf] breakfast coldcuts -- the turkey, ham & cheeses made for a great 'traveler' sandwich.

THe closing of the pool 4/9 to 4/23 would cause me to think twice more than the food, but a picky eater would probably disagree.

Don't worry about 'ethnicity' of food. It's pretty Americanized. There are lots of kids of all ages and they all go for the food.

The vision in my head is of a large amount of very hungry kids cleaning up on all the offerings, so when I stop by for a morning coffee and bagel I'll have some serious competition. I am thinking that I need to rethink my idea of what "club level" entails. When we did CL at the WL, it was always pretty quiet with just a few people at a time enjoying the lounge. I guess I always thought of the CL lounge as a place where you could drop by and have a continental breakfast or a relaxing snack. But, the thought of hungry football and hockey players who "eat constantly" definitely makes me think twice. This is not meant to offend anyone. I think my idea of what constitutes CL may be inaccurate.

I can't tell if your joking or not, but I really don't think the lounge is going to be full of hockey and football players consuming large amounts of food. I'm sure you'll be fine.

If you were going to switch from the YC, I'd choose BW CL as far as food offerings go. They had a nice variety of "american" foods vs. the Poly which is more ethnic-based. The rooms at the Poly though are larger which may be a deciding factor with older kids who probably appreciate being able to spread out a little. The Poly lounge though is set up a bit differently with CM's serving the food vs. allowing Guests to serve themselves. The dishes are set up and you point to what you want. It made me a little uncomfortable and I was just taking a few small samples back for the grandkids. If the OP's kids wanted to take large portions then they might not even be allowed to do so except to go back for additional portions as again the CM's portioned out what you could take. As to people "gorging" themselves at a CL lounge, I've seen more of that at AKL than at any other location during several trips. People were lined up clutching their plates right before 5:00. I'd never seen that anywhere else at WDW, and these were adults, not healthy growing boys!

REALLY?? They serve you and you can't help yourself? Hmmm, don't know how I feel about that, it might make me feel a little uncomfortable too... Interesting, I never really realized that before, but I guess we will just have to adapt to a different way of doing things :)

I'm not sure when you were at the Poly that you had this experience, but I was just there in January and it was definitely serve yourself.

Agreed...it's always been self-serve for us at the Poly. :thumbsup2 There are CMs available behind the "bar," but they weren't serving.

The Poly CL is my kids favorite. Yes the evening offerings have a Polynesian flair, but nothing crazy. We've always served ourselves, and have never had to compete with hungry football players!

We served ourselves at the BWI Innkeeper's Club.

We served ourselves at the BWI Innkeeper's Club. This is what I was going to recommend if you change from the YC. Honest to goodness, the YC lounge is tiny. If you have a couple of big guys and they don't want tropical food, the BWI is a good choice.

Thanks everyone. We did switch to the Poly. For the record the "big" boys will be feed lunch and dinner outside of the CL food. The CL is only a support to their regular meals.
