We just returned from 8 nights at the Polynesian. I had read a lot of doom and gloom stories on the disboards prior to leaving and was a bit apprehensive. I'm sorry those folks had a rotten time but I've got to tell you...ours was wonderful. We had towel animals left for us four days in a row...and we brought them home. Does anyone know if this was okay?? I guess it's better to ask forgiveness if not. We had two adults and three children (11, 6 and 4) and were VERY comfortable in the room. The room and all the grounds were immaculate. Captain Hooks, Kona Cafe and Kona coffee bar were all terrific. The employees for the most part were friendly but not spectacular or memorable. Our room was in Figi, second floor (no balcony), right off the marina. Nice room but a balcony would have been better...and I requested Tokaulua (spelled that wrong). The only major issue was the 'turn down service that is available on request'. We requested it for the length of our stay and only had it twice. When we complained we were told it was only if requested AND IF they weren't too busy. I told my husband I didn't remember reading the last part in the clause. But, we'd definately stay there again! We spent all 8 days doing something in the parks or DTD but had no magical moments and didn't see any either. I figured it was too hot for them??? My sister stayed at Contemporary and I had to check out her room. It was garden wing and very nice. It looked a bit larger than our Poly room and had a full computer set up. I would almost go there instead of the Poly but it was too far away from the monorail and the food in the food court wasn't as good as Capt'n Hooks. Cindy

Another thing...I also had the dubious pleasure of experiencing the Poly's guest laundry facility. I found hidden Mickeys in the soap bubble wallpaper...you already probably knew they were there. BUT use the machines at your own risk. Several were broken with no notes on them. I had to go back to the front desk when the front load washer ate my $2.00 plus I had already put the soap in and wouldn't work. They didn't give me any hassle with the $3.00 refund ($1.00 for the soap) but it was still a walk. Next time I'd try NOT to do laundry. :rolleyes1 Cindy

We also just returned from the Poly (10) nights. We requested and received 3rd foor of Tokelau. We only had towel animals on 2 nights, but we brought them home also. I should also mention that on our previous 2 trips we had stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, and both times had towel animals every day !! I guess it's just luck of the draw !! :thumbsup2

Wow! Sounds like your trip was a wonderful one!! It is always good to hear the excitement still in the return of a trip. :)

I really enjoy good service and am hoping we will have some some of the time. I do not think that it is too high of an expectation. My parents are going with us and they never travel.. This is huge for them. I really want them to enjoy the resort.

We are going for the first family trip in Oct/Nov for 9 nights. I requested Tokeloau (sp?) as well. We shall see.

Did you have a marina view? Were you still happy with that longhouse? I have DS 10, DS 7, and DD 5.

Thanks so much!!

Yes we had a marina view. The marina really is beautiful and we loved being close to the beach. Several nights we watched the fireworks from the beach and dock. It was also relaxing to be able to take the boat 'home' from MK after a hot day. It was refreshing floating on the water and having the cool air flowing around us after hot, long days in the park; the ride was quiet too. It even put the little ones asleep! Yes, we were happy with that longhouse; it was shorter walking from the dock than the monorail. And I didn't mention the volcano pool my kids' fell in love with! IF I had a 'complaint' it would be the no balcony and the turn down mish mash was a bother but I didn't let it ruin our vacation. Just don't expect it. We also did three nights on the Wonder after our 8 days and that was fabulous. Towel animals, turn down service, excellent food, the whole nine yards. The staff was more exuberant on the Wonder too than at WDW. :flower3: Cindy

We loved Tokelau. Not too far from the Grand Ceremonial House, close enuf to walk to the TTC, and right next to the quiet pool. And we had a balcony on the 3rd floor. It was great !! Good luck !! :thumbsup2

We stayed at Tokelau last time and requested it again. Had a great room facing the quiet pool and, since we were on the end we had a great view from the balcony.
