The Running Thread --2025

September Totals:
Run 100.4 Mi
Bike 3.3 Mi lol
Hike 1.8 Mi

Only rode the bike during one tailgate, which is a ride from our parking spot to the park where there is a shower and back after a long run. Also, got our first camping trip in this weekend and did two small trails. Hiking isnt looking good for October due to a busy schedule but hopefully November will be better!

Enjoyed a few runs on the promenade deck in the low 70s.
Did you use your GPS on your watch and get some of those really cool routes out in the middle of the ocean? I always thought those were funny because half of each lap would be a crazy fast pace and the other half would be crazy slow. I want to do it one day just to have a GPS record of it lol. Guess I need to book a DCL soon!
Still until I give it 100 percent effort over multiple years to see what I can do I won’t have an an answer but for sure time is running out and it won’t get any easier.
This is why I dont fully want to riot over it. I ask myself have I done everything I can for 2-3 years to achieve this goal. The answer is no. Beer and cajun cooking is hard to stay away from for that long lol.

September was a pretty good running month for me. Apparently, it’s the most miles I have run in a month over the last year (115), although I don’t go chasing any specific number—it’s just what the plan amounts to. And I have felt pretty good, so I’ll take it! Looking forward to W&D next month. Thought about whether I wanted to do a 10k somewhere for time while I was doing my workout today—by the end of my final interval, I think I decided the answer was no!

I did use GPS on first run however it thought I had done crazy PBs and receded them so I deleted it as I didn’t want it messing up with what was recorded, one was a 12 minute 10k !! Wish it were true then I would definitely be Boston bound 🤣🤣

I am looking for a great/fun half marathon for next fall. This will be my first half so nothing to crazy with elevation since I live close to sea level and won’t have a ton of time to acclimate before the race. Hoping to make a road trip out of it from Southern Ontario. Any suggestions to checkout is greatly appreciated.
I don’t know that I’d call it “fun”, but the Georgina Half is a good, flat race if you’re trying to get a PB. They have a race in the spring and fall. I’m thinking of maybe running it in the spring to get a corral A POT for dopey 2027.

September:
162.4 km / 100.9 mile (my first 100 mile month in a long time)
Average pace - 7:07/km

2 more weeks of long runs and then start my taper.

Question for those of you who have done fall marathons followed by the WDW Marathon in January. What's your strategy for working back up to marathon distance with 2 marathons in 10 weeks?

While I will be pushing myself in NYC, I have intend to take it easy with Goofy in January. My current plan is something like this:

Weeks 1 + 2: No running. Will do some walking and ease back into the gym (likely some easy stationary bike in week 2)
Week 3 + 4: Ease back into running - 3 runs a week plus a long run (right now planning 10k followed by 15k)
Weeks 5-10: Follow the last 5 weeks of my "normal" marathon training plan. I might scale back some of the really long runs to no more than 3 hours.

Any thoughts? Is 4 weeks enough to ease back into a full marathon plan? Again - my main goal is to maintain my fitness level through the holidays so I can enjoy MW.

I am by no means an expert, but I don’t see a problem going for another marathon after 10 weeks especially if you’re already planning on going easy for goofy. I’ve done three in three months in a row before and even though I shouldn’t, I always full send it and deal with the consequences later. Just ease back into training, listen to your body, and have fun.

September was very much a case of "two steps forward, one step back" after the gains I was able to make in July and August. It was supposed to be a pretty high volume month for me, but started slowly with a weekend trip to the NC mountains when I didn't get any running in. Following that, I started having some sharp pains in the meniscus of the knee I had surgery on back in 2009. That was very concerning, so I took most of a week off, cut back a bit on mileage and dropped to 4 runs/week to give myself a bit more recovery time. As a result, my numbers look like this:

September Training Summary
Running Miles: 95.94
Running Time: 19:36:05
Average Pace: 0:12:15/mile
YTD Mileage: 610.36
Walking Miles: 26.06

The good news is that the meniscus seems to be settling down with the reduced load and it's just a couple of weeks to the taper for my marathon at the end of October. Fingers crossed things stay settled down and I can get back on track for Dopey.

September Miles = 151

I am feeling good as I have started to taper into the Hartford marathon on October 11. I'm heading to FL immediately after for a week of recovery walking (and eating/drinking) around the parks. Which will then be followed up with a reverse taper and then prep for Dopey 2026.

August Miles = 144
July Miles = 132
June Miles = 69
May Miles = 111
April Miles = 113
March Miles = 122
February Miles = 105
January Miles = 105

2025 Total = 1,052

Congrats on the 100 mile month, I have done 2 in 21 years 😂 hoping to get my third before the end of the year

The Niagara Falls International is a great race. There is a marathon, half, 10K and 5K distance. I've done it multiple years (I think this year is my third or fourth) and really enjoy it. All of the courses are out and backs (so there's almost always people around you) and the course runs right along the Niagara River/to the brink of Niagara Falls. The weather for this race is also usually pretty good.

I've never done it, but another race that I've heard great things about is the Wineglass Marathon/Half marathon in Corning, NY.

Thats what I was talking about lol. The ships travel around 25mph at sea or 21-22 knots. So when running in the direction the boat is heading you are probably going 30-33 MPH which makes for some crazy numbers lol. I wonder what is the actual best way to track a run not on a treadmil while on a cruise... Just use treadmill function anyway?

Good to hear. Knees are overrated! Vet is telling me my dog likely tore hers at the end of last week. Waiting to see a specialist... Fun times ahead.
I am feeling good as I have started to taper into the Hartford marathon on October 11
Good luck with your race!!!
