I am considering splurging on the Poly for our next trip, but DS has a peanut allergy and I'm worried that the peanut products served at Ohana etc will add an extra level of possible contamination to the common areas etc....
Anyone every considered the Poly/Peanut issue ??

Both my kids have peanut/tree nut allergies. We stayed at the Poly last summer, and will be there again this summer. I am not comfortable bringing my kids in to eat at those restaurants, but I do not worry any more about the possibility of contamination than I do anywhere else. Almost everyplace on property has the PB&J uncrustables for kids, so I see it as no different, really. We had no problems last year, and I don't anticipate any this year, either. Go and have a good time!!! :)

My husband is highly allergic to tree nuts and we have stayed and ate at the Poly. The chefs there assured us there was no reason to worry anymore then usual. And to avoid the bread (as usual) at all cost.

I've never stayed there, but I've eaten at the Poly with a peanut allergy, and the chefs are always very conscientious and accommodating! I carry around wipes to wash my hands off before I eat in case I've touched any nut residue or anything, but I haven't had any problems in WDW at all! :)

Thanks everyone ! I feel better having some real feedback ! :flower3:
Decisions, decisions!:confused3

I have been to the Poly last september with my 3 year old son and had no problem at all. As usual, let the resort know when you book and when you make a reservation to a restaurant.
Been to CBR the year before. Again, no problem.

Our 9-year old daughter has peanut, tree nut and egg food allergies. We have visited WDW 3 times with her, the 4th time coming up in less than 3 weeks and we have had nothing but great food experiences at WDW. We are, of course, always vigilant and careful and talk to the chef and/or staff before getting her anything at all to eat or drink and they have always bent over backwards to accommodate us. We have eaten at Poly and had no problems at all. Good luck.

We are, as many parents of kids with food allergies are, involved with a local food advocacy group where we live (outside Buffalo, NY). They provide a wonderful network of people and a weekly online newsletter, which includes a "vacation" edition that gives all kinds of tips and strategies re: food allergies, with special emphasis on Disney vacations. If you haven't see something similar, and are so inclined, please feel free to PM me and I will get it to you. Enjoy.

DH is highly allergic to Brazil nuts, slightly allergic to all tree nuts. We have eaten at Ohana's twice and no probs.

My ds (16 months) has food allergies, too...milk, eggs, tree nuts and peanuts -- and being that this is our first time to WDW, I wasnt sure what we were going to do about the eating thing. He is extremely picky to being with, so I'm sure he isn't going to be trying lots of food anyway. BUT, I didn't know that I should have noted that on our ADR's. Should I call back and tell them to make note of it on our ressies?

Now, I read your post a little different. Not so much about the restaurant, because you can easily avoid that, but the fact that more guests at the Poly are more likely to eat there and carry back oils that spread around the room and other places.

My brother has severe peanut issues, so that is a HUGE problem for him. Basically, what my mother always did was to clean/wipe down everything while my sisters and I hung out with him elsewhere, watching what he touches (he is much younger than us). Now that my brother is an adult, he calls the hotel, explains the situation, and asks for a deep cleaning, making sure bedspreads and such are washed immediately before his visit. He still has his epipen, but most hotels are willing to accommodate--especially since he always notes who he talks to.

You can, I had them note it the first time we were there. However, many of the table service a la carte restaurants will ask you when you check in. If you go to a family style, you can talk with the server. If it is buffet, I have seen a chef come out and talk with a person to discuss allergies, this was at Boma. It is always better to be safe than sorry, so do what you feel comfortable with. :thumbsup2

I appreciate the information. I know that since he's under 2, we aren't including him in the dining plan, but I don't want him to have a reaction to something he grabs off my dd's plate. I'm hoping that this trip will get him eating fruit because at every buffet, he's going to get some on his plate! LOL

Megal0331 - I would definitely recommend calling back and putting the food allergies note on your ADRs. Also new to us this year for our upcoming trip (it's been 2 years since we've been to WDW), WDW-Dining will give you a direct and separate phone # for the chef at the TS restaurant for you to call them beforehand if you are so inclined. Our 9-year old daughter has allergies to peanuts, tree nuts and eggs. This will be our 4th trip to WDW with her. We have had incredibly positive dining experiences with her at WDW each time. The chef at all TS restaurants we have been to and the chef on duty at all CS restaurants that we have been to (there is one all the times even at CS restaurants) will come out and speak with you before any ordering to answer questions, check ingredients, check about cross-contamination, etc. - all you have to do is ask. They have taken us back in to the kitchen with them to show food prep areas, search for labels and packaging for ingredient lists, etc. I can't say enough about how they have gone the extra mile for us re: food allergies. We are always vigilant, of course, as I am sure you are, but we have never had an incident at WDW, knock on wood. Best of luck to you too.
