POLY and BCV

We have a reservation at the Poly in July 2008. I have two little girls - 9 & 4 who love the Magic Kingdom so we have a lot of our trip planned there.

Yesterday at a Christmas party my aunt says a friend of hers is rent Beach Club DVC points - it would only cost us like $900 to stay in a studio for that same time we are at the Poly - a savings of about $1,000.

I should also say we plan on spending a good portion of our trip enjoying our resort as well.

Should I make the switch or stay at the Poly because of the MK - what would you do?

I would switch in a heartbeat!!! There would be no hesitation at all!!!! We love BCV and the location! I have three kids in the age range of your kids and they love the BC as well. Savings of $1000? I can't believe anyone wouldn't take that.

You'll need to get a member in line quickly to make that reservation at BCV since all owners are in the 7 month time frame to make a reservation there. You'll be renting a reservation from a member, so they set the payment and cancellation terms. Many don't offer any refunds if you have to cancel. Mainly because of how points must be used. If you have any problems, Disney won't get involved in the reservation at all. It's between you and the member. You won't be able to contact Disney (Member Services) to check on the reservation for any reason. The member controls the reservation until the moment you check in. The member will need to add the Dining Plan or Magical Express for you.

It can be cheaper to rent a DVC reservation, but it can also require a lot of trust on the part of the owner and the non-owner.

A studio will have one queen sized bed and one double sleeper sofa. Plus an undercounter refrigerator and a microwave. Coffee pot, toaster included.

A room at the Polynesian will have two queen beds. Plus a cube sized refrigerator.

If the reservation renting sounds good to you, you might even consider the Villas at Wilderness Lodge since you are only a boatride away from the MK.

Thanks so much. Since she owns at Beach Club I didn't even think to ask if I can use the points at Wilderness.

I looked into how many points a one bedroom would be but it would take 180 for our stay - that would be $1800 for the points and would not be much of a difference, even though we'd have the room in a one-bedroom.

I guess part of what is holding me back is the fact that I have never rented before and I am worried about something going wrong. It does require a lot of trust.

Another question is the dining plan, we love the DDP. Can you get it if you rent points?

Disney is allowing reservations on points to use the Dining Plan.

And a one bedroom is a big improvement over a studio to me. King sized bed in the master bedroom. Queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room. Real galley-style kitchen (except at OKW where it is a full sized kitchen). Washer and dryer in your villa. We seldom stay in studios if we can stay in a one bedroom.

At 7 months, any member can use their points at any DVC resort as long as there is availability.

This is a tough question due to the fact that our family absolutely loves the Poly. We have stayed there five times. When our girls were very little it was so convenient to be so close to the MK. The Monorail to Epcot was nice as well. Our girls loved playing on the Beach especially at night. The Views of the Castle, Captain Cooks, Ohannas, Kona Café.Trader Jacks and I couldn’t forget My favorites The Tambue Lounge, Grog Hut, and the barefoot bar. Back in 2003 we became members of DVC so far we have stayed at the Boardwalk villas twice and last year we stayed at the Beach Club Villas. Allthough these are two very nice resorts, In my opinion they don’t compare to the poly.


If you can afford the extra $1,000., Go for the Poly.
If you are planning to spend most of your time at the MK., Go for the Poly.
If you want the convenience of returning to your room for a nap or a swim in the afternoon., Go for the Poly.

The Bottom Line

To have a good time at WDW doesn’t depend on where you stay. It depends on you.
