Is it difficult to book Poly studios 6 mos out? ( Or is it 7 mos- can't remember earliest window for non owners)? I would be looking at dates in December.

About 40% of the resort is declared and about 20% has been sold. That means there are twice as many rooms as owners during the home resort booking window at the current time.

In practical term, that means that Poly is normally open right up to the 7 month window.

There are still many DVC owners that want to try Poly. If last year is an example, Poly will book out at the 7 month window for DVC popular December.

If you want to rent a reservation for Poly, or time a purchase so you can reserve for December, do so ahead of the 7 month window.

For renting, that means you need to find a Poly owner.

Understand that as soon as you mention December, that means you intend to go during the highest DVC demand time of the year, when it is often impossible to get any near park resort at 7 months out, when owners of DVC resorts can start reserving DVC resorts other than the one they own. Poly has not yet really been tested at 7 months out for December. For this year there were often openings that closed out quickly at 7 months out, but at the time reservations were being made at 7 months out, Poly was in its infancy for sales and you cannot reliably predict the future based on what happenned this year.

Nevertheless, like ziravan, I believe you will have a good chance for it next December because there are a huge number of Poly studios and when you go to reserve there will likely still be more room space dedicated to DVC reservations at Poly than Poly owners that can fill it. However, it is likely you will have to reserve right at 7 months out.

I was able to book a Poly Lake View studio at the 7 month mark - during the week of July 4th. I was truly shocked. Availability was wide open. I'm beginning to think that the hefty price tag (in terms of points) is not universally appealing. We decided to splurge this year, but probably won't do it again for a while.

We were actually looking at booking a standard view studio for early May and there were still dates available last Thursday which was surprising. By the time Saturday came around though they were mostly gone. We were out of points anyways so we just booked a cash trip directly through Disney since they were offering the 30% discount.

I had to waitlist MLK Jr. weekend for our January trip coming up in 2 weeks. I was able to get the 18th-21st, but had to book OKW for the 16th and 17th. Waitlist did come through though.

We were actually looking at booking a standard view studio for early May and there were still dates available last Thursday which was surprising.

Early May is an easier season than any time in December. I think the waitlist for MLK is a closer fit for the situation than May.

So, have changed plans to week of Thanksgiving. I have enough Poly points to get 1 room for the week. Aiming to get 2 Poly rooms ( will book standby and BWV in case i can't)
Question then becomes- do I go for standard view or lake view- which view has more rooms/likelihood of of me switching over points at 7 mos mark.

There are many, many more Standard View rooms, although what the actual proportionality of rooms declared to DVC may be a bit of a mystery.

When Poly has actually filled, lake view has disappeared before standard.
