Poly...1st or 3rd floor?

This will be our first stay at the Poly! This board has got me so excited, I can barely wait!! Do most of you prefer the 1st floor or the 3rd floor with a garden view room? I like the idea of walking right out to the pool, but do you sacrifice upstairs noise or limited views? For those that have stayed at the Poly, which would you pick? Thanks.

I have stayed at the Poly but was never on the 1st floor. We always had a garden view on the second floor (no balcony). It was nice. But... I am going in December of this year and find myself with the same question as you. I have heard that the 1st floor patio's are very nice indeed, and very convenient to step out to the beach. Will you have children with you? To me this would make a big difference. However, when we went with our young kids it did not seem like a deterrent to not be on the ground floor. Looking back, we were all just so excited to be there we did not even think of what floor to stay on!

I think I am going to stay with my original decision to stay on the 3rd floor for our Dec trip. We are empty nesters and I don't think that the beach will be that big of a draw in December. We are also opting for a LVC room this go round. It is our 25th wedding anniversary. What the heck!

Good luck with your decision. The Poly is a great resort no matter where you stay.

We just got back from the Poly and I requested/had a balcony. I love the privacy of being able to sit outside and relax without feeling like everyone walking by was watching me (I know, I'm paranoid!). We did see lots of people walking out of their first floor rooms to go to the pool, but my understanding is that you are unable to lock the sliding door from the outside, so the room would essentially be unlocked while you were gone (I know, me being paranoid again!). There are lots of people who like first floor patios....guess I'm just one of the minority balcony lovers

I had the same concerns both times I stayed there. As it ended up we were placed on the third floor both times. Either way I would have been fine, first or third. Second floor just seems to come up short with out the balcony or the patio.

With small children we find the balconies a better option for us (now that's *me* being paranoid ). YMMV.

Also remember that Tahiti, Tokelau and Rapa Nui all have second floor balconies in addition to the third floor balconies that all longhouses have.

We have stayed at the Polynesian twice and both times we had a 3rd floor room. It was great!

When we checked in the 1st time, we had a first floor room. I opened the curtains and there were people walking right outside my room. I like my privacy, so this was just not my cup of tea. I called the desk and they moved us to a great room with a MK castle view.

We check in Monday - can't wait!!!!- and we're hoping for a third floor room. I have two boys, 6 and 8, and I don't want to deal with the easy access to the outside with a ground floor patio door. I also like the privacy of an upper floor.

Isn't the third floor smoking optional? So if you want a third floor room then you can't request a no smoking room?

I think you're thinking of Hawaii which is the concierge building...which I know you know! Even there some of the third floor rooms are apparently nonsmoking now.

Most of the longhouses are completely non-smoking these days.

The sliding doors can't be locked from the outside BTW. First floor garden views are lovely.

We recently returned from the 3rd floor LV Tahiti bldg. I have a 5 & 2yr old. The view I must say was the best! I couldn't have asked for much more. I loved the Tahiti beach-very quaint and beautiful. The only thing about the 3rd floor was my 2yr old's head would literally fit in between the rails of the balcony-with extra space on the sides too. Soooooo, I would have to sit on the floor of the balcony and hold on to him for fear he would slip right on thru and fall. I would not take any chances!!!!!!Had I known this before we got to the room I would have asked for the 1st floor patio room. If you have small children be prepared to have widely spaced rails. I don't think all of the bldgs have the same spacing because we went around viewing all of the rails of each bldg. probably due to different bldg codes at each construction time. So, all in all the resort was fabulous, the CM'S were all very friendly, the views from the Tahiti bldg. were great but, I will not be staying on the 3rd floor in Oct. I have requested a patio. I have been on all floors. As the poster above mentioned some buildings have balconies on the second floor so I would not rule that out. I prefer the 1st floor after staying on the ground level a few times. You don’t sacrifice your view of the MK at all. Going up two floors does not change your angle on the castle when it is across the lagoon. Also there are many ground level rooms where the walking paths are no where near the room. I don’t like being contained to a closed in balcony. I also found that sitting in the chair on the balcony for many people your eye level is just about at the railing height so you can not look directly out unless you peek thought he bars. I like to stretch out and have a clear view and be able to walk away from the room.

The third floor of Tuvalu is smoking optional. Part of the 3rd floor in Hawaii is smoking optional and half the second floor in Tahiti is smoking optional. The rest of the longhouses are non-smoking with an exception of Niue.

Thanks for the insight on this question, as we have specifically requested first floor as DS is mildly autistic and well he has no fears but his dad and I do!
