If invited to a light meal at 7:00 PM, would you expect coffee to be served with dessert?
Yes or no?
I voted that I wouldn't EXPECT it but I do think it's nice when offered. I drink coffee everynight but I wouldn't think anything bad if someone didn't serve coffee. I always offer coffee when I have dinner guests and most of my friends and family will have some if offered.
).Ditto. I remember my parents and their friends always served coffee after dinner, but in my circle of friends only a few drink it at all, and they get the Starbucks stuff with whipped cream and caramel, and even they don't brew it at home. No, and nobody I know in my circle of friends do either (we're in our 40s). My parents, however, always did expect coffee after dinner.

Now I just learned not to expect it. I'd expect it, since that's what I'm used to going to dinners, but it would be perfectly fine if it wasn't offered.

I'm still stuck on the choice to use the word 'expect'. I think I'd assume coffee would served rather than expect it would be served.
