I wish simmering potpourri penetrated everything!:) I actually simmer potpourri fairly frequently (even have a crockpot made for that express purpose), and the scent does not linger.

I think lingering scents tend to be from anything smoky, e.g. barbecue or wood fires--smoke really does get into everything. I cannot stand to stay in a room in which people have smoked cigarettes, and actually almost walked out of the All Star resort over this issue about 10 years ago (at that time, Disney would not guarantee a non-smoking room, and didn't mention this when I requested one when I made my reservations).

and the scent does not linger.

Might depend on where you get it! Someone at church can come up being me, and from the smell of them, I can tell whose household they are from. They each smell differently depending on their potpourri. My leather laptop comupter case spent a small amount of time in one of these houses, and despite the Murphy's oil, and the Dawn scrubbing, all I smell is flowery stink LOL!

When I go into a room, I can tell immediately if the George Foreman grill or the crockpot has been working overtime..on the curtains, from the rug..yucky! I don't cook in my bedroom at home (in fact I don't cook in my RV for that very reason without the range hood and the fantastic fan going..and even then, smelly/strong stuff gets cooked outside) and I hope people won't cook in my bedroom at Disney.

i said none mainly cause I would hate to start a fire cause I left the coffee pot on ( oops). had not thought of the odors left behind but that is a good thought, nothing like the smell of 3 day old frozen dinners but did wonder if the used wrappings might attract pests. if you do call the resort mind posting their reaction ( If I were a betting person it would be on a "none" but wouldn't be the first time I was wrong !)?

I think microwaves, toaster ovens, hotpots, etc. are fine if OK'd by the resort. I don't think cooking in a room creates any more unpleasant smells than ordering room service--I'm vegetarian and I would rather not smell meat but I would never dream of complaining because other guests (not to mention my DH :p ) order room service steaks and burgers!

So someone stewing some spicy concoction in a crockpot for 10 hours isn't going to bother you any more than someone ordering room service? Room service only last for a 1/2 - 1 hr in the room, it doesn't stew or heat in the room all day. It can't burn and leave an odor like a toaster oven or microwave. I would complain if I got into a room that smelled from the previous guest, or if I were in an adjacent room that smelled because a neighboring guest was cooking some crap for their kids.

lucky_bunni, the only "crap" I would complain about, smell-wise, is cigarette smoke. I think food odors are pretty common and acceptable in hotels. I do think fire safety is a more serious issue (as I stated in a previous post), and hotels have the right to limit their liability and not permit their guests to use appliances that could result in fires.

I still think that if you have to save that much money by cooking in your bedroom then you need to stay home and save a bit more money. Or better yet, get a room with a kitchen.

We were at the Sports resort this past Christmas and had a room in Touchdown facing the field.I went out one night to watch the kids play and the smell of someone cooking hamburgers just overtook me.So I went for a walk just to see where this was coming from.It was from a room in same T building as ours but facing the parking lot around the back. The door was being held open by a bunch of shoes and that smell was pretty strong.I felt sorry for anyone around that room.So it is no appliances for mea and I dont like the smell of coffee either.

Maybe next time I go to WDW I should request a "no cooking" room! I don't think I'd want to stay in a room in which the last occupants had done salmon on the George Foreman. I had no idea so many people actually cook in the rooms. We do jelly sandwiches and that's about it! :)

I say either stay in a room with a kitchen or wait to go on vacation until you can afford the food court...

besides...you are on vacation! Who wants to cook when on vacation??!

Who needs food when you have margaritas????:hyper:

I think anything above a coffee maker is out of line.

I have to agree with you here dandave, although we don't bring one to POR. My wife likes the early morning walk to the breakfast bar. The poll should have included a coffee maker; I bet the none vote might not be so high, although I am happily surprised at the results.

Well, geesh! If a person can't afford to drink at a bar, they should stay home and save money for their vacation until they can afford it! Nothin worse than the smell of tequila in a hotel room!:p (Yes, I'm kidding!)

Thanks for the smile floridagirrl2. :)

I started a thread, but I was asked to move it over here

I have found a site that has many 12 volt (plugs into car's lighter) cooking appliances.

Now I am not saying use these in rooms etc., but you could indeed use them while driving to WDW, or even stopping at a rest area to brew up a cup of java

12 Volt cook stuff

They have crockpots, coffe makers and even a toaster oven

Can you imagine???? And they complain about talking on cell phones while driving! Imagine the guy trying to open his bag of microwave popcorn fresh from the oven with one hand on the wheel!!! :p ......we'd be niave to think that people wouldn't use these appliance while actually DRIVING (although I think they'd be pretty cool for camping! Thanks for the link!)

 :hyper: :teeth: :teeth:

Funny

I meant more along the lines of pulling over first and then making a cup of coffee or a qyick bite to eat

I think a coffee maker is the only appliance that is acceptable.

I was in the military and my first duty station, I lived in the Barracks BRIEFLY! I often wondered why our command did not allow microwaves or electric cookware in the rooms.

Well my roommate who loved to cook, decided to buy a toaster oven and an electric skillet for use in the room. Well after she made bratwurst and kraut and followed with Fried Fish, I knew why!
I spent hours on a chair scrubbing the ceiling trying to get the smell and oil residue off. The smell had permeated our clothes in the closets and our linens.

I moved out when she tried to bake a cake in the toaster oven, fell asleep and it smoked so bad it set off the fire alarms and a 3 story barracks building had to be evacuated at 1 a.m.

We were both from Michigan, so I can't blame it on regional differences, but you will have those that bring a toaster and a coffee pot and then you will have those that "set it and forget it" and roast chicken and ribs in the room.

There really is not proper ventilation in these units to cook, and that would be my main issue. Some appliances require proper venting and that is where I would draw the line.

I like to save money too, and have taken snacks and cold cereal so I am not against eating in the room to save money.

I have a wonderful $10 plastic hot pot from Walmart that I take everywhere with me. I use it to heat water so I can have tea in the morning. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_1_110.gif' border=0></a>

I don't drink coffee and would worry about getting a coffee taste if I used a coffee maker for hot water plus it really doesn't get the water hot enough. Boiling (not just hot) water is essential to me to brew a good cup of tea.

I like really good loose tea and bring my own tea. Outside of the UK and Australia I've found it extremely rare to find decent tea in a restaurant so going out for tea or ordering room service is not an acceptable option.

this poll was for value and moderates though, you might have to stay in the deluxe suites to have enough room to fit a car in by the bed;)
