Poll: Star Trek or Star Wars

This is a spin-off of the Star Wars thread. I saw the movie Fan Boys and the question came up over which you prefer: Star Trek or Star Wars, and why can't you like both? I like both, but if I had to pick just one I would pick Star Trek.

What would you choose?

I voted Star Wars of course! Having grown up anxiously awaiting the "next chapter/movie" of the original trilogy, those are still my favorite. The scene at the end of Star Wars Episode IV still is my favorite scene of all.

Never really got into the Star Trek thing, my brother on the other hand.......

I picked Star Wars as my favorite, however I enjoy both. Star Wars is just such an epic trilogy that covers all different subjects including the general good vs evil, temptation, technology vs the human spirit, and religion. Note though I only say this about the ORIGINAL trilogy, not the prequels which, in my opinion, totally ruined the Star Wars name. It makes me sad that there may be a generation where their first exposure to this story were the prequels.

However, I also enjoy Star Trek, especially The Next Generation. It just doesn't give me the thrill that I get with the original Star Wars movies.

Then again, I also love Babylon 5, Eureka, Supernatural, and many other sci fi series lol.

I'm going with Star Trek. I don't know why. Deeper mythology I guess. So much more complex from a philosophical standpoint. I will admit I'm not gung ho on the original series. I'm much more a TNG, DS9, Voyager. I also really dug the reset of Kirk and crew for the new movie series.

I do enjoy Star Wars.

Shall we cover the Clerks II Star Wars v Lord of the Rings debate too? Because then I'm firmly on board with Star Wars.

Ok I chose Star Wars just because I grew up with it. Although I do like ST:TNG and I LOVED the new movie!

RadioNate: It's just too hard to decide on which one of Randall's rants are better. They are equally wonderful!

Definitely Star Trek over Star Wars. However, I didn't vote this way (since the question was ST or SW) but I much prefer other scifi shows. Babylon 5, Farscape, the new BSG, and the new Dr. Who are all better shows, imo than any trek other than DS9.

I like Star Wars better but do like Star Trek, mostly the Picard Era (Next Generation Show and the movies with him) and Deep Space 9.

It is kind of hard to really compare the two since Star Wars is pretty much a linear story (out of order of course) with a lot of side plots. The Star Trek franchise seems much more tangential to me.

I do think the technology is more technically feasible in Star Trek though.

Am I allowed to say both? I can't choose! The mythology and storyline is better in SW, but since they're movies they can only go so far. ST could go deeper into the characters, could do more with them and get them into more predicaments.

I also love all types of sci-fi: Doctor Who, Torchwood, Journeyman, The X-Files... Even classic movies like THEM! and The Day the Earth Stood Still (NOT the remake!) and The Thing From Another World.

So I say again, I can't choose.

I voted Star Wars.. I could never watch Star Trek for more than 5 minutes at a time.

I know, I did choose Star Trek but in reality it's much too close to call. DH says they fill different niches, Star Trek for the cerebral aspect and Star Wars for the gung ho adventure aspect. So really, it's kind of an unfair question

I voted Star Trek. I don't care much for the original series, but really like most of the later stuff (especially TNG).

I thought the original three Star Wars movies were fun (I grew up on them--Princess Leah for Halloween in second grade and the whole 9 yards). They are great adventure stories which happen to be set in a futuristic space era. Star Trek seems to go much deeper than that and some times really explores some pretty complex issues.

I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation with my dad, and I still love it. We actually own all the seasons on DVD since DH loves it too. I never really watched the original series, but I do love all the Star Trek movies.

On the other hand, I never could get into Star Wars. I'm really not sure why, but the movies just never grabbed me.

I chose Star Wars - I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have seen some of the Star Trek movies (the originals and some of TNG) and I liked them okay but Star Wars is for me. I really love reading all of the Expanded Universe books - some of the characters they added are really great!

I chose Star Trek, but the truth is I love both. They are very different from one another, but I really enjoy them both.
