You've seen what happened to the selfie sticks -- safety concerns from the occasional lapse in common sense resulted in a total ban from Disney parks.

Now, let's look at iPads. Not smartphones, not mini-tablets, I'm talking the full-sized iPads and their clones that are as big as a sheet of paper, and which people seem to have no compunction about holding up to video entire parades or ride sequences.

Since they take up much of the view they're trying to capture, should Disney go the next step and ban them as well?

Vote in the poll and discuss in the spaces below...

Some people use tablets as their only method to access MDE, photos, video, etc. so I doubt an outright ban would ever be imposed, but Disney should enforce at least a bare minimum of respect for other guests. I would include children on shoulders, there's no reason you can't hold them at eye level.

Disney is quite frankly very bad at enforcing stuff like that. So I don't think it would ever happen.

And I agree that since some use them for accessing MDE they won't ban them in the parks either.

I really don't think Disney would have ever banned selfie sticks if they weren't causing ride stoppages. Since ipads don't cause stoppages, they'll let guests continue to suffer with the blocked views.

Yes, ridiculous......that I had to see Beauty and the Beast at dhs through the full size ipad of the girl sitting right in front of me. She taped the entire show with it holding it right above her eyes (because SHE had to see the show). It was packed so changing seats was not an option once the show started and she pulled out her ipad. Politely asking her to lower it only resulted in this dazed look of incomprehension as if she didn't understand me. My case is not an isolated one either. Nobody has the right to take away another persons enjoyment of a ride/show and Disney seriously needs to address this, with whatever means necessary. The ban on selfie sticks is a good start.

Of course not! Sheesh people are getting ridiculous!!

I agree they are annoying, but it would be impossible to ban them. They are too expensive to confiscate, and unlike selfie-sticks, can serve purposes beyond the thing that they would be banned for. For instance, in Feb, we arrived at our resort before our room was ready. I left my bags with Bell services, but didn't want to leave my iPad, so it stayed in my backpack as I went to Epcot. (And never came out)
If iPads were banned from the park, what am I supposed to do, sit in the lobby of the resort until my room is ready?
Asking people to put them away during shows is one thing (I'm really skeptical at how well that would work or be enforced) but an outright ban would be silly in my opinion.

Its not the device, it is the people using them. If people would employ a little common courtesy, there would not be a problem.

I 100% agree with this! I can't believe the people who don't think about those behind them when they stick they're iPad up in the air.

I don't see why everybody cares so much about what other people are doing. If someone wants to record with their iPad what's the big deal? I enjoyed using my selfie stick on my last trip and outside of one person at wishes I got no complaints about it.

If you want to be able to tour the parks without being annoyed at other guests than pony up the $10,0000,0000,000 to rent MK for a day for yourself. But as long as we're all in this together we should be considerate of each other. If a person wants to tape a ride/fireworks/parade with their iPad that is up to them. Why do you think you should be able to criticize them? Just mind your own business and leave other people alone.

If people would use a little common sense and courtesy when videoing something then they are just fine. Some people using them have no problem with that but there are the others that are oblivious to how it is effecting the people around them. If Disney Cast Members would speak up to those vacationers that are blocking views of others while watching a parade or firework spectacular or a Disney Show then this would not be much of an issue. The problem is Disney has this reputation of having to be overly nice so they don't speak up. That is a whole other can of beans right there. I don't think the ipad or tablets will ever be fully banned though.

People who are recording video on their devices (like the girl in the example above recording Beauty and the Beast) are also recording sound. Tell them that they are blocking your view and if they don't remove the obstruction, in a loud enough voice to be heard and recorded, talk about how inconsiderate and rude they are being. And do it over and over. Bet they won't show that video to family and friends.

I was just thinking this same thing. Keep telling them that they are blocking your view.

Last time we went to Illuminations I *could not believe* the amount of people who had their iPads up in the air for the entire show. Dozens and dozens in the area just in front of me. It was bizarre and annoying.

I am someone who has an iPad but no smart phone! Well, I have one, but it is a crappy Windows phone for which MDE is no available (and internet is pretty hard to access so using the website would be a nightmare.). Also many people with autism and other disabilities use ipads to communicate, we use it as a scheduling tool for my son. But I would never DREAM of holding it up during an entire show and block peoples views just to record something!

If they are sitting in front of you at a show and they hold it up in front of you, then essentially you're watching the show through someone's ipad. That's the problem.

Also, not everyone feels comfortable complaining about it. Maybe there were people around you who were annoyed, but they didn't say anything. Some people just aren't confrontational.
