I use an iPad mini, and don't have a iPhone; but I don't use it like an inconsiderate idiot so hopefully I'll still be allowed in the park :rotfl2:. Can't really understand trying to video for that amount of time with an IPad, you wouldn't enjoy the show/ parade surely, besides it would make my arms ache too much.

DH also has an iPad but no iPhone (doesn't take to the park), so that's 4 of us then.:)

If they are sitting in front of you at a show and they hold it up in front of you, then essentially you're watching the show through someone's ipad. That's the problem.

Also, not everyone feels comfortable complaining about it. Maybe there were people around you who were annoyed, but they didn't say anything. Some people just aren't confrontational.
I don't think it is up to the person on vacation to have to speak up. It should be done by a Cast Member if they see that peoples views be obstructed in anyway during a show or parade.

Good point, but...

Let's see a show of hands of those people who own iPads who don't also own an iPhone (or other smart device)...
Actually that's us ...only smart devices we own are iPads!

Note we never use one to video or photo anything in the parks...dh is a photographer with a really nice DSLR

I agree. But from my experience, this doesn't happen. As long as there is no rule against holding an ipad up to film a show, and the person behind doesn't complain, the cm's are going to be non-confrontational as well.

I recall a few years ago at Disneyland, we were waiting for the fireworks show above the castle and when the show started BOOM ipads EVERYWHERE! It was almost comical, but sad. I'd be ticked off if I was waiting a long time only to gave the you in front of me pull out an ipad and block my view and many people behind him. Personally, I wouldn't want to carry that thing around all day.

Why does anyone want to tote one of those around the parks?

I always think the same thing, but I know there are people who don't have smartphones it bring them for other purposes like communication devices. I would worry that something would happen to mine. Although now that I come to think of it, it would cost less to replace my iPad than my iPhone.

Me too. I always figure that if I want to watch a video of Wishes or Illuminations. I'll just head to YouTube. Plenty of videos there taken by people with professional grade equipment and much better editing skills.

Its not the device, it is the people using them. If people would employ a little common courtesy, there would not be a problem. It was very hard to enjoy WOC at DCA with an I-Pad sticking up in front of me.
Yep. The solution is to ban stupid and rude people from the parks. Which would be just as easy to enforce as a restriction on electronic devices.

I agree they are annoying, but it would be impossible to ban them.

I agree. Disney did not ban cell phones, just the selfie sticks. The sticks. Not the device. I have a smart phone, I don't own a pad and probably never will. When I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation. The only reason I have my phone with me is to check time and if a family emergency happens hundreds of miles away from me and I cant do anything about it anyway. But that's me. Others travel with devices that they need to be wired into at all times and that's their choice. But if a device is right in front of my face and I can't see anything around it, I will politely ask that person to move behind me and we can both enjoy the show. I can't imagine taking a pad into a theme park but that's my choice. I travel with a small bag and have a great time. Others need to record everything.

Well they also ban coolers and bags over a certain size so there is no reason they can't ban electronic devices used for filming over a certain size.
Hey, if you want to look like an idiot holding up you ipad, go for it. When your idiocy turns to inconsideration for those people behind you then you or your device need to go.

Several views were ruined on our last vacation from people using their ipads to take pictures or videotape. Very frustrating! Another pet peeve....flash photography on rides when it was clearly stated "no flash photography"!

I agree that many use tablets to access MDE, etc. However, I hate when they are used to film shows and parades. They get in my way, and it's very rude. Honestly, something needs to be done about filming, in general. People have gotten so invasive during shows like Fantasmic, which is meant to be dark. All the bright screens are ruining the atmosphere. Shame.

I think they would have to ban all media/photography equipment. And that is impractical. Just like banning strollers would be impractical especially since they rent them.

They could ban use during shows. But they would have to ban ALL photography equipment.

Me? I would be happy of people recording with iPads or iPhones did so in landscape for proper aspect ratio. I couldn't care less if they use them or don't use them. :-)

Very, true. Disney is complaint driven and it is why we find an array of issues on these boards for years and years (i.e., pool hopping, refillable mugs, line jumpers, table hording, ...).

I've been to summer theater productions where video taping was prohibited. There was one centrally located HD Recorder and the playbill provided a download link for the video of the play. The director said something like the show doesn't necessarily need to go on. i.e. "I'll stop this play and embarrass you."

I wouldn't mind a total ban on the recording of shows.

"This presentation of Wishes has been stopped due to the use of recording equipment; please exit the park in an orderly fashion."

I don't consider myself confrontational, but if someone sticks their device in my face, I will say something.

I had a lady right next to me get ticked off because I asked her nicely to move her iPad down and away from my face/view at the Boyz II men concert last year. She wasn't just blocking me, but those behind as well. She humphed, sat down, crossed her arms, and pouted almost the entire concert. Oh well.

People need to learn electronic etiquette.

I'd like to think most people would be considerate if you asked them to lower their iPad, but you just never know. The unknown reaction that some people may have to being asked, can be stressful.

I don't see why everybody cares so much about what other people are doing. If someone wants to record with their iPad what's the big deal? I enjoyed using my selfie stick on my last trip and outside of one person at wishes I got no complaints about it.

If you want to be able to tour the parks without being annoyed at other guests than pony up the $10,0000,0000,000 to rent MK for a day for yourself. But as long as we're all in this together we should be considerate of each other. If a person wants to tape a ride/fireworks/parade with their iPad that is up to them. Why do you think you should be able to criticize them? Just mind your own business and leave other people alone.

People should care. It would mean a lot to me if the person in front of me at Wishes cared that I'm very short and he was ruining my view by holding his iPad above his head during the entire show. His wife held up her phone to take photos and the lights from both were very bright in the darkness. The street was packed so moving wasn't an option without getting in front of other guests. This is not the first time it's happened to me. Happens if I don't get on the front row at parades as well.

Do you think this is being considerate of each other? Unfortunately, some adults need rules because caring about others isn't a quality they possess.

Yes, they block views during parades/fireworks and it is annoying (main reason). Also, they don't even take the best pictures, so I have never understood or wanted to bring an iPad. Plus, they are much larger than a phone or camera!
