I don't have a snowblower, so it really isn't a moral dilemma for me. But even if I did I wouldn't disrespect my neighbors that way. It isn't their fault I dragged my butt home at midnight.

Get out the snow blower. The neighbors will understand.... your driveway needs to be cleared.... here it is illegal to park on the street after midnight in the winter. It's winter, everyone is inconvenienced.

Well we have a neighbor who has a lawn service do it for her. Last year after one bad storm they did her corner lot (lots of sidewalk) and driveway at 12:30 AM. Once this year they fired up their equpment at 7:15AM. I wasn't very understanding!!! If I can't mow before 9AM in the summer, they shouldn't be able to wake me up out of a sound sleep with their snowblowers.

We don't have a snow blower so it's easy to answer. Scale the huge pile in the driveway, get out the shovels and dig for dear life!

But our neighbors have a snow blower. Their answer, God bless them, would be... come home at midnight, fire up the snow blower, plow out the driveway, and then plow out everybody else's driveway! I wouldn't mind them waking me up. The drone of a snow blower on a stormy night is a COMFORTING sound.

We don't have a snow blower, and I think it's against the noise ordinance to use a slow blower at midnight. Our town does not allow overnight parking in the street, but I would call our police department and let them know why my car was parked in the street.

I have a neighbor who works second shift and is coming home from work late at night. If there is a snow emergency he can't park on the street so if there is a lot of snow I would say get out the snowblower. I would rather someone do that then have a heart attack trying to shovel by hand. Now if the snow wasn't too bad and you could just shovel enough to get into your driveway that may be the next choice. You could clear the rest the next day.

We sure got a chance to test this out this year.

I voted not sure. Would need more information, like how close are your neighbors? Do you live in a housing subdivision where neights are very close? Would YOU want someone starting up THEIR snowblower at midnight and it woke you up?

I would say, if neighbors are close either park on the street or else shovel by hand so you don't disturb the neighbors.

If someone has to snow blow to get into the driveway and I don't, I would consider myself lucky to not be in their shoes. The having to listen to them solving their problem is far easier than having to do it.

Blow away. :)

ETA: I spend my whole winter trying to convince people not to shovel snow. If it is rude to let it pile up on the sidewalk or rude to use the snowblower, then BE RUDE. Better to be rude than dead. Not fair to your family that they'll have to grieve when you die because you wanted to be so thoughtful of your neighbors and strangers walking down the street. Give your family that same consideration and don't shovel.

If other people don't like the snow or the snowblower, let them not like it. That's not important. Your health is important.

Blow away!!!

When I was single, back in the late 80's, I owned a house, and the driveway was right next to the nieghbor's driveway. I mean - there was not one blade of grass between our drivways. they split a little bit up near the garages. Essentially, it looked like one big parking lot :)

Loved these neighbors, BTW.

After the first snowfall, Mrs. Neighbor felt really bad that Mr. Neighbor blew the whole driveway, including up to my garage. She felt so bad, especially if Mr. Neighbor would have woke me up. I totally explained that if Mr. Neighbor wanted to blow the driveway...to go ahead. To me it didn't matter if it was night or day.

Next winter, I was married, and DH and Mr. Neighbor just about had a contest to see who could blow the driveways first. Must be a guy thing.:lmao:

We moved away from these wonderful neighbors about 15 years ago, we still get together.

:thumbsup2 Sound advice.

My BIL passed away a month ago today from a heart attack while shoveling snow.

There has been far too much snow this year. Don't put your health in jeopardy.

I would shovel.

Now if the neighbors were the one that blocked it with snow (like mine keep doing) I would get out the snow blower.

I live near/on a corner with a side street that dead ends, so I would just park on the side street and walk along the edge of the neighbors property to my backyard, it would take all night to shovel my whole driveway, and we don't have a snowblower, so when it gets bad we have to call someone to plow and park on the side street till they get there.

The road that I actually live on is way too busy to park on overnight and there are a lot of accidents in front of my house in the winter, that is why we park on the side street, and don't feel comfortable parking at the end of the driveway either.

I have had a snowblower for many years. I snowblow most the neighborhood. I know no one would complain.

I'd shovel enough by hand to get the car in and use the snow blower the next morning. Bring on spring!

It is not an issue with us, DH plows us out and then opens up half the neighborhood. I don't care what the neighbors do, if they have the snow blowers out in the middle of the night I am just glad it is not me. Getting in and out of a driveway safely is more important than a little noise.

Mowing the lawn and snowblowing your driveway are completely different. If you can't get into your driveway... you need to clean it out.... sometimes my dh will snowblow the end of our neighbors driveway out so they can get in... I guess it all depends on what kind of neighbors you have.

We have a snow blower and I would use it. I can't leave my car in the street all night, so I would take a few minutes and blow away.

Our neighborhood is very very quiet at night and I think it would be rude to snowblow at night. I'd shovel enough to get the car in the driveway (if I wasn't allowed to park in the street) and blow it in the morning.
