Poll on buying VAKL

I just got back today and a CM confirmed the plans to move ahead with AKV, to commandeer 18 rooms on the sixth floor for DVC viewings and offices, and to extend a savannah so that it wraps around the new building.

Thanks for the report. Do you think they really meant the 6th floor? That would wipe out all the concierge room on that floor. Would they still have the lounge? I like to hear of them extending the savannah.

Hi, Lisa, yes that's what they said and I even asked a few times to try and get as much clarity as possible.

On the issue of the lounge, there was the mention that it would be moved to somewhere else in the lodge while these changes were underway.

There was mention of construction on the 5th floor Pres. Suite. Perhaps that would be a nice Concierge lounge area?? It is probably just remodeling, but it would be on the same floor as most of the current concierge rooms and have a view of the Savannah. I love the current concierge lounge but a savannah view lounge would be nice and most concierge guests might prefer the 5th floor savannah rooms to the 6th anyway.

The CM I spoke to believed the changes to the lodge would be happening sooner rather than later and that the VAKL would open 2008.

Additionally, and I suppose this is interesting too, he says that the "powers that be" are still insisting that it's either the Contemporay or AKL that are getting the DVC treatment, but none of the CMs believe that any longer. They think both have been greenlighted.

Wowsa! That's what I've been thinking as well ... they'll annouce them both close to one another or at near the same time. I remember a few months back there was discussion that CRV was greenlighted by that it wouldn't be the next one annouced. That fits with them annoucing VAKL first and then CRV right after.

The rumors from CM's are great! Way back when they were building AKL, a bus driver told us it was supposed to be DVC!

Between the two choices I would lean more towards buying a small add on at CRV over VAKL, but then again I would have to 'see the plans' for both before deciding....
