Poll: Obnoxious Bed Coverings?

Is it just me or are other people turned off by the obnoxious bedspreads / comforters that cover the beds of most Disney resort rooms. I have stayed at a handful of value and moderate resorts and seen room photos of deluxe resorts, and most of them have loud, obnoxiously colored bed coverings that give a very motel 6ish feel to an otherwise cozy room. Does this bother anyone else? Do you think this is done as a cost cutting measure, as a mood setter for the vacationing families, or is this just trademark Disney? It's ok Mickey, I still love your house regardless of the bed coverings! Amused as to what others think on this topic.

Thanks,

Kermit

We fold up our bedspreads and put them in the closet. :rotfl: So they never bother me. ;)

I like most of them, I think they're fun.

Maybe its to disguise all of the germs and dirt that is on them. Here is how clueless my dh is. I said "don't let the kids touch the bedspread. They are really dirty." He said. "they wash them don't they?" I don't think so. Yuck

That is exactly the reason why they have such busy patterns and colors: To hide stains.

Isn't this true for most hotels/motels, and not just Disney ones? Most places have bedspread patterns that are busier than anything I've seen sold in stores. And I do believe the reason is so that any spills/stains would not be easily detected, even if the bedspreads are washed and the stains are extra stubborn and do not come out.

This is also why the carpeting in most public places are comprised of some of those hideous and mind-boggling patterns/color schemes ever ...

It's not so much the bedspreads that irk me but the lack of a fitted bottom sheet. Makes it a pain to keep the bed made up all nice.

We stayed at the Contemporary, where the obnoxious bed spread fit in with the rest of the decor. We actually liked the rest of the room, but the comforter and curtains were hideous. Even the Poly and GF have obnoxious bedspreads. Only the Swan/Dolphin has nice ones.

I think they are fun- I like the hidden mickey's in them. I thought the ones at the Polynesian were subdued- tans/browns/dark green. I like the tropical ones at CBR, they are pretty.

There's a seller on eBay who sells WDW resort comforters and draperies.

I like to think of the bedspread in the same way I think of bowling shoes. They are so hidious in style that no one in there right mind would steal them :):):):)

Do what we do hide them under the bed one day, then in the closet the next, then behind the door. Mousekeeping likes the challenge of finding them again.

I don't mind the bedspreads... they are fun and colorful and for the most part fit the theming of the resort. I can think of many more things to think about when vacationing in WDW than the pattern and colors of the bedspreads in the rooms!

I most of them. I liked the Polys since I thought they went well with the room. AKL was great as well. My favorite has been the new ones at French Quarter with the hidden mickeys. CBR - is to bright and loud - but I didn't like that resort at all so that might have something to do with it.

I stayed at a Starwoods in K.C., MO and their spreads were a dark brown suede feeling. Very nice and made the room look very clean. - BUT THIS IS DISNEY! It is suppose to be a little crazy with a side of whimsy!

I have never seen a comforter at a Disney resort that I did not like. The bedding on the beds always added to the decor IMO.
As for wanting to buy the same type of comforters, I don't think so. Too dark for my tastes.

We typically stay at the BWV or the BCV in a one bedroom unit and I LOVE the bedspreads on the king beds. I have often thought I might try to find a spread like the one at BWV for my bed once my current set is worn out! :flower:

I haven't stayed onsite yet, but going by all the pics I have looked at...they are ALL gaggy. They are all so loud. They don't say "comfort" to me. And, I would think that the deluxe resorts would have down. I LOVE down.

I LOVE the bedspreads at GF! They are of Alice in Wonderland and have ribbons lacing up them...so pretty!

I'm trying to remember if any of the bedspreads bothered me...I know I liked the new ones at POFQ...they were pretty as well. The BWI's room decor in general was gorgeous so I'm guessing I must have like the beds (we last stayed in 2003). I know I wasn't crazy about the WL but it didn't make a difference in my enjoyment of the stay...in fact, they were kind of cute buffalos, if I remember correctly. I guess I don't concentrate on the designs much, except I remember GFs well because I was an Alice fan as a kid and they were lovely. princess:

I think that the Yacht Club and the Beach club have more subdued bedcoverings.
