I think it's a good thing. I love Frozen, and Maelstrom needed either upgraded or replaced. What I'd like to see is an attraction that includes Frozen characters and elements, but is still primarily about Norway, similar to what they did with the Three Caballeros in Mexico, but... you know... better.

Maelstrom, hands down. I knew a Frozen attraction was eminent but Maelstrom has always been a favorite of mine. I'm sure the Frozen one will be nice but it'll probably be 10 years before we experience it as I won't wait in an hours long line or waste a Tier 1 FP+ on it (and we all know it'll be a Tier 1).

I viewed maelstrom in the "so awful it's good" light. I love that ride but it was cheesy and awful. It needed to be put out of its misery.

I loathe Frozen but still choose that ride. I know many have nostalgia about Maelstrom, but it is just not a good ride. If the new Frozen ride is a legit, mind blowing Tier 1 ride, then it is something Epcot sorely needs.
I am confident it will be a refresh overlay as was done in Mexico, far from mind blowing. .

I thought Maelstrom was pretty boring so I'm happy they are changing it to something else.

I'd rather have a new ride (leaving Maelstrom for those that like it and keeping them out of other lines) but transforming one I didn't care for is better than nothing.

ETA: 51% - 49%, I'm surprised it's so close, I thought a lot more people would be against the change.

This is an excerpt from a post that I made over on Rumors & News, but it pretty well sums up my feelings on this whole mess:

"Maelstrom is popular in its current configuration, and as many on both sides of this argument have pointed out within this very thread, it usually has a long wait time. This begs quite the obvious question - "Why change what isn't broken?". On the flip side, the entire Imagination pavilion is always a "walk-on". The Wonders of Life pavilion is on life support. The only thing "innovative" about either of the Innovations pavilions is the light-up fiber-optic concrete walkways found before you even enter the building. EPCOT is losing gallons of blood per hour from each of these atrocities, yet management is keen on "fixing" a popular attraction that isn't "broken" in order to make a quick buck on the financial tidal wave that is "Frozen".

This ride has no place in World Showcase, period. For those in favor of something new, that's great, and I truly do understand that desire. But when these types of conversations come up, I usually revert back to this quote:

"Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland...the blessing of size. There's enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine."

I guess that's out the window, along with almost all of the other principles that he stood for...

With the popularity of Frozen, I thought the exact opposite...

I don't think many 3-10 year old girls vote in these polls. :rotfl2:

If the rumors are true, it's not just Maelstrom going away, it's Norway....so goodbye Schoolbread, also Akershus will now become Arendale? What kind of food did they eat there? I saw the movie once and it was okay but not so memorable that I remember much of it, my 12 year old granddaughter who still loves Cinderella and Beauty and The Beast watched 5 minutes of the video and refused to watch any more. Let It Go folks (talk about a song that is old already, I prefer It's A Small World to that song and I feel that's what people will be comparing this ride to in 4 years)

Actually, I think the announcement from Disney Parks was very clear. The new Frozen will be replacing Maelstrom as an addition to the Norway pavilion. It said nothing about the Norway pavilion going away. In other words, the additional rumors you outlined above are probably without any merit.

There's no evidence of that at all, is there? Or are you speculating? I don't know why it would change all of Norway. In fact, I'll go a step further and say I think adding characters into the countries they're from via rides or shows would be a great idea.

There's been a LOT of complaining about the tier 1 pool at EPCOT. This will add another ride to the pool and you can bet the parents who were waiting in line to meet and greet Elsa and Anna are going to be claiming the Frozen ride as their tier 1 meaning more FP+ and lower standby lines for Soarin' and Test Track. I think it makes fantastic sense.

Well as someone who has been going to Disney since 1955 I see the handwriting on the wall. I'm all about progress and continuing to grow the park but I don't get capitalizing on the popularity of a movie that may just disappear in 4 years, max, ESPECIALLY in a park that wasn't designed for that.
A M&G, where will they have that(the Theater)? I can see the dining being turned into a full blown Frozen affair.
My Aunt who is FROM Norway said the only thing Norwegian about Frozen are the character names...and SHE loves the movie, but thinks Epcot is a bad spot for it.

What indications are there that Frozen will be a passing fad? They will be putting out a new mini-feature and there is a strong probability of a full blown wide theatre release sequel. I don't see any indication that they are going to do without the entire Norway pavilion altogether.

I'd really like to have both. They can use the money allocated for the Avatar atrocity to pay for it.

I look at it this way...what in the history of Epcot have they ever replaced with something better than what was there before?

Horizons -> Mission Space
El Rio del Tiempo 0-> Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros
Journey into Imagination -> Journey into Imagination with Figment
World of Motion -> Test Track
Test Track -> Hotwheels version of Test Track
The Living Seas -> The Seas with Nemo & Friends
Wonder's of Life/Body Wars -> Nothing
Odyssey restaurant -> Nothing
Universe of Energy -> Ellen's Energy Adventure
Ice Station Cool -> ???
Off Kilter -> Thrilling lumberjack show?

I love Maelstrom and I love Frozen. I made my decision based on what I felt fit with World Showcase the best. That's Maelstrom - hands down. Disney stated that the ride is going to be all about Arendelle and some of our favorite scenes from the movie. That's not Norway. That's not even Norway with a Frozen overlay like what they did in Mexico with The Three Cabelleros. That is straight up putting something 100% fictional in place of a ride and show that was about the history of Norway. That is what I am opposed to. I'd be fine with Anna and Elsa greeting at Akershus. I'd be fine with a meet and greet. I don't like the idea of taking something that is all about the country, in one of the already smallest pavilions in Epcot, and replacing it with something completely fictional.

Now a Frozen ride near Animation Academy at Hollywood Studios? Now we're talking. Or, replacing Captain EO with something Frozen-based where they discuss all that Elsa is able to create all through her imagination? That might could work, too. Or updating Wonders of Life Pavilion to include a Frozen ride? Yeap.

We completely agree. And while we're at it, let's bring back Davy Crockett to Frontierland!

Indeed! And, unfortunately, please add Mo'Rockin to your roster. :(

Oh yeah....Mo'Rockin -> the most worthless crap act I think I've heard...if the Youtube video was an accurate representation of their (total lack of) talent.

Hard to imagine WDW spending the money to put anything worthwhile in place of Maelstrom. Would love to be proven wrong, but sadly, don't see it happening.

Understand the sentimentality but IMO, Frozen is a no brainer. Need some more modern and kid friendly attractions.

I think that the princess/movie type stuff should stick to the new fantasyland. I love frozen, but Arundelle is fictional - based on Norway. I have a special spot for maelstrom so maybe I'm biased.
