My K kids are in music and I'm sitting here thinking about odd stuff. all my friends have long nails. I've always had short nails for two reasons, one it's easier in a practical way, like typing and cleaning. And two, my nails aren't very strong, so when I've rarely grown them out, they break.

I like having short nails anyway, and I keep them nice with nailpolish. I find I can get away with wearing black polish with short nails than with long, and I like to wear black from time to time depending on what clothes I'm wearing.

What about you?

I voted other becaue I will not have anything other than a squarish, mid length french tip-never long but not really short either. Right now they are long becasue I'm a week overdue for a fill thanks to my appendix going bonkers. And only in pink and white powder just in case I decide to go with a color over it. And becaue I prefer to do my own toes, and if I get some on my nails I can use nailo polish remover and my french is still intact.

Always short. Even when I had acrylics, I had short nails. It's just easier for me to do everything with short nails. :goodvibes

I like mid-length, just a little above my fingertip. My nails are very weak also and I've found that I can usually keep them this lenth without breakage. I do like a little length because I think they look more glamorous than short nails.

I actually have really strong nails. I couldn't bite through them if I tried. But I don't like the way natural long nails look. (creepy to me for some reason.) My boss had natural longish nails and they freak me out. They're just past her fingertips.

I used to get acrylics but my skin on my fingers is thin because of years of excema and they would often cut me with the dremel tool so I stopped. Now I just keep them short. I decorate cakes and cook a lot so it's just easier if I keep them short. they stay cleaner and they don't get in the way.

Mine are normally long. They've always grown well and are one of my few features I take a little pride in. That being said, right now they are short. They keep splitting alot this winter, which is really annoying and looks terrible, so I've been trimming them.

I have to wear mine short because I work at a hospital and do patient care. Mine have always been short though; just like the OP my nails are weak and break/tear if they get too long.

I like them long enough to get a french manicure but not so long they are like having kitty claws. So I put other as I like that middle length where there is just a bit of tip showing , but doesn't effect the function of your fingers:)

I've always had short, crappy, weak nails. I started using the Shellac gel/polish a month ago and now they are growing out and I LOVE them.

I put other because I am not sure how long is long :lmao:. My nails are super brittle and tear/crack all the time. I did acrylics for a while but hated the upkeep and they weren't good golfing. I want to try that new gel nail polish thing though. I would like my nails just long enough to be felt past the ends of my fingers but anything longer gets in the way of typing, dialing the phone, etc. To me that is "long" :lmao: When I played the violin we were not allowed to have long nails, if you could feel your nails, they were too long.

My nails grow at an inhumanly fast rate. My nails are often long. I like them long so that is good. They are not terribly strong, though.

Today, they are short. I cut them down last night as they were TOO long and I'm always in fear of ripping one down to the quick.

Mine are short.. I still have a nervous habit of biting my nails! :rolleyes1 But I can still paint them awesome sparkly colors. I'm in school to become a court reporter, so I can't have long nails anyways without them getting broken and flying off across the classroom as I'm trying to keep up with dictation.. what an interesting picture that is, right?

I wear LCN nails, long I would never ever go back to acryllic after trying these. They hold up to all the cleaning and cooking I do and they look *** good when I get my fill as they did when I walk out of the salon because the color is under the material they use. LOVE them!

What are LCN nails?

Mine are fairly short. You can see some white, but they don't go past my fingertips.

I HATE for them to be squared off! Hate it. I like the look of it on other people, but any time I've ever tried to have mine like that, I feel like they're too sharp and just don't look good on my chubby fingers.

I voted short. Definitely short.

First, I've always worn contacts. Attempting to take contacts out with long nails HURTS.

In addition to that, I think long nails are kinda icky. Stuff gets underneath them and they look nasty under a black light (thanks 9th grade bio class). Not sure if that black light means anything but it scarred me for life! ;)

On top of all of this, DH doesn't like long nails. I had fake nails for a wedding one time and he told me I looked like Wolverine, the X-Man, with claws... thanks DH. :rotfl:

My nails are ultra short. I have been biting my nails since i was 15 months old, so i'm told. Tried to quit many times, but I swear it's an addiction worse than crack cocaine. Anyway, I'm 54 and none of my nails are more than 1/4" long from the cuticle. They don't go anywhre close to the tip of my fingers.

I like medium to short nails. I think long nails are creepy.

By medium, I mean about an eight of an inch or less past finger.

Short - Easier to type and keep clean. Studies on preemies WRT the nurse's nail length showed far less infections in the preemies when the nails were short. Swabbing of the nails also showed far more germs when the nails were long.
