  • Yes, I'm already packed!

  • No, I'm still nervous about the virus.

  • Heck No only if there was a vaccine.

  • Maybe, I would have to see what virus prevention protocols are in place.

  • Nope, I'm done with cruising.

How wouod DCL do nursery/kids club then, since the test sailings are only for those 18+?
Don't know. Maybe not at all. But the CDC basically says the test has to do everything intended for a real sailing and you cannot add stuff on that was not demonstrated and tested.

I believe it's speculated that there may not be any kid's clubs initially.
Really makes you wonder how much will be left. If kids clubs are out then presumably so will the pools and splash pad—no way to social distance in those tiny pools and masks wouldn’t even be possible in them. Rainforest room seems impossible too—masks won’t work in a steam room or shower. We already know characters meets will likely be nixed since they are gone at WDW. And without kids clubs parents won’t be eating at Palo/Remy, doing spa treatments (if that is still an option), going to beverage tastings or going to the adult district at night.

So I guess we’ll all just be playing disney trivia all day?

I'm thinking that there will be far less families / kids on DCL routes and a lot more couples / groups of adult friends and solo travelers. The demographic has changed in WDW due to various reasons, there are a lot more adults , and it makes logical sense to me that the same will happen on DCL.

I'm sure that there will be A LOT of Platinum and Gold families who will cancel or move to 2022 once Disney announce the restrictions and new procedures for 2021. This will open up space and opportunity to adults who want to experience DCL who may not have had the chance before. I know I originally chose my 2020 DCL itinerary for the specific reason that it would be in term time and that there would be lower percentage of children than on other itineraries

Don't see my answer as an option, "no, not interested in being a guinea pig". I'll wait until cruises are sailing smoothly before cruising again.

The pools are open at the resorts, so I am sure they would open to some degree (reduced capacity, maybe even one family at a time in the hot tubs). Rainforest room would maybe be by appointment only? Gym would be able to work in the same way the ones on land do I would think, same with the locker room and showers. Jogging track would probably be one way all day. Are meet and greets gone at WDW..? They still do them at Paris/Tokyo - they're just at a distance with the characters behind a rope.

I know pools are open at resorts but they are MUCH bigger than on the ship so easy to keep distance from others, and capacity limits are enforced by a pool attendant at the pool gate at busy times. I don’t see how you could distance and apply capacity limits in the ship pools unless you had reserved swim times, which would mean most of the guests on the ship would not be able to use the pools.

Disney world is a bit different—the characters are all outdoors, appear at random times and are fleeting (eg on a parade float moving down the street; smile and wave from a platform) so that they don’t draw a crowd. I expect they will have something similar on the ship, but the whole random fleeting nature of it means it doesn’t fill up much time. On a nine day trip at WDW for example, we saw no more than 1-2 character appearances per day, lasting less than one minute each.

They just wouldn’t. I would not bring my child on a test cruise.
I wasn't talking about taking a child on a test cruise. I was asking about the real cruises once DCL receives approval based on the test cruises. Passengers on test cruises need to be at leadt 18. A previous poster ssid that the could not do any activities that were not part of the test cruises.

Yeah, the question is really whether DCL will have adults test the kids clubs and if CDC will accept that as an adequate test.

I suspect no-DCL won’t even try—it’d be hard for CMs to enforce distancing and mask wearing without parents present, and it’d have to close constantly for sanitation.

I wonder about the older kids in Vibe and Edge? They should be able to follow distancing and mask requirements. Maybe the test cruise could have adults cover those clubs?

If DCL starts cruising with NO place for any kids <18 to go, it's hard to imagine that families would want to go on the cruises.

The sanitation issue is definitely a big one. However, what people are finding is that, in general, elementary aged kids and above have no problem wearing masks. The key is practice and enforcement. If your kid won’t wear a mask, they won’t come to the clubs. Period. Just like school. If your kid won’t follow the rules, they will have to do virtual. How will that work with kids whose parents have never made them wear a mask? Probably not well, but that’s the parents’ fault not DCL.

I would imagine that the club hours will be reduced and that there will be some sort of sign up to reduce capacity. I suspect DCL knows that they will have a hard time filling cruises without a kids club option.

Come on, test cruises!!!!
Sure doesn't seem like any cruise line is in a hurry to do a test cruise. I guess it makes sense, the pandemic is worse by many times today than when it was cruising was suspended. I guess they feel it is too risky, expensive and likely to fail at this point.

We would go and happily follow any and all of DCL's guidelines. Get the vaccine prior to boarding? Hoping to get our shots soon. Take a covid test prior to boarding and daily while onboard? Yes. Wear a mask in all public areas? Already doing that and will continue at least through 2021. Socially distance? Absolutely. Reduced entertainment options? Would be totally fine with that. Quarantine in cabins if necessary? Of course. We would completely comply with everything without complaint. After a year of no travel and 4 cancelled cruises so far, we're ready to be back onboard a Disney ship. Sign me up!

I think it would be much easier if DCL was making the decisions. But there are too many moving parts that have to all be lined up before they can even consider even test cruises.
1)They have to be allowed by CDC to sail.
2) They have to get International Staff back to the ships. That may be darn near impossible with the current travel restrictions in their home nations, or the nations they have to pass through to get back to the ships. Many of the International Staff come from nations that have no plan in place to vaccinate anyone.
3) You have to have ports willing to allow your ships to dock.
4) Only when the above are satisfied can you even think about test cruises.
5) And only after successful test cruise, can you start anything like a normal operation.
