What a choice I have to make. I can either:

  1. Bring my own mugs, glasses, dishsoap, and possibly plates and utensils thereby increasing my luggage needs, or
  2. Waste time calling mousekeeping, the front desk, or management insisting they bring the necessary supplies and waiting for them to arrive.

With the first option, the "decision makers" win and I suffer the inconvenience. With the second option, I may get the items I need without having to pack them myself but then lose charished vacation time requesting and waiting for what should already be in the studio. Either way, I will not be receiving quite the quality experience I was used to. Too many reductions in satisfaction with WDW and DVC will impact our vacation decisions in the future.

I just sent my third e-mail, the first two were knee jerk reactions on Sunday, to Member Services. I mentioned to them that I do not expect to have to read from a Third Party, unofficial WDW site what's going on in my DVC!

I made the point in another thread, and so have others.

The thing is...it doesn't really solve the problem.

At least with the glasses and ceramic mugs, you had the option of washing them, by hand, before use.

They polystyrene cups, besides being awful for the environment, aren't individually wrapped, or sealed. So that mousekeeper washing the cups with their gloves on and improper cleaning materials....they're the one touching the "disposable" cups with those same gloves on....possibly just after cleaning your toilet or pulling hair out of a drain.

I'm not sure that's any more sanitary than what WAS going on...and it eliminates the opportunity for guests to "intervene" and clean their own cups before use.

ha, glad to hear u r aware, then u will realize that disposibles will indeed solve this problem - for DVC/Disney in general:rolleyes1 .

Don't think they're particularly worried about germs on the cups, just somebody finding lipstick on a used cup/mug:confused3

I am just finding out about this change and yes, I have submitted an email to member services. This is ridiculous. Thanks to these boards for keeping me informed.

I wouldn't really care if they would only give you enough cups to last the entire stay for 4 people ! I think its horrible they give you 4 plates for 4 nights-- so we just bring our own. Just another item to add to the list.

For us, it isn't just a case of there being enough disposible cups for the length of our stay, even if they were the more sanitary kind, individually sealed in plastic. As mentioned on this and/or the other threads, the foam cups to not microwave well. DH likes coffee in the room each morning before we head to the parks and I like either hot tea or cold diet coke, depending on my mood. If he is making coffee in the coffee pot, how am I supposed to make hot water for my tea when those foam cups are sort of flimsy? And, foam cups feel cheap to me while you are drinking out of them...they are ok once in a while when on the road, but not in my "home away from home" resort room.

Dear *****

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

As of March 2, 2008, we are removing the glassware to be consistent with
having disposable dishes and plastic ware in the studios where
dishwashing equipment is not available. Once the glassware is removed
from the studios, it will no longer be available.

I do apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Larry

Well, at least Larry is no longer telling members that there never WAS glassware or mugs in studios.

Perhaps Larry has been reading this thread? ;)

I think that's a pretty hardnosed answer from Larry.

I picked who cares because the other 2 choices are the least to apply. I'm disappointed but don't feel it is that big of deal.

Not sure what you did......but you can bet Larry would have received a further reply from me. I'm sorry, but I'm not letting this go. I refuse to eat/drink off paper or plastic at home and I'll be "darned" if I'll go down quietly about doing it at my "home away from home".

Fight on!

Oh my, how in the world have we been able to put up with the "inconsistency" of paper plates and ceramic mugs for 16 years?

That isn't even a decent try at a spin. :sad2:

This is frustrating. Are they listening to us at ALL? Do they still expect us to calm down after a few days and just lay back and accept the change? That attitude just can't stand.

My first night in a studio (I think I've spent 3 total nights in 10 years) I wept openly and curled in a fetal position because it was so difficult to adjust to.

Again, the biggest disappointment in the whole matter is the lies.

Here's my response from "Larry"

The nature of my compliaint was that I was not happy that the "Deluxe" amenties were replaced with the local Comfort Inn supplies and if I was getting "Comfort Inn" service would there be a reduction in dues to reflect the decline from Deluxe?

How many infraction points is it for me to openly respond to this?

Uhh, I think the comment is in response to the "reason" given for the change. That because the plates are disposable the cups have to be, too. Or else it is "inconsistent."

No, Larry, I'm really sorry. I'm sorry that quality doesn't matter now. I'm sorry that you can "apologize" for any dumb decision that inconveniences someone who paid $19,000 in advance to have a delux stay. And I'm really sorry that there is no "real" reason this is being done. I'm sorry that I'm telling my friends that were interested in DVC that if staying off site is an option, buy their timeshare somewhere else. Why don't they just get rid of the studio option all together. Make it a one, two, or three bedroom choice and that's it. For me who mainly stays in a studio, I think the Moderates have become a better quality of vacation. I get glassware, maidservice everyday, and let's face it, better service to try to persuade me to come back. Maybe the room and the beds are a little smaller, but what is the advantage of a DVC Studio now?

It's not just the cups. Its the whole idea of making it a cheap place to stay. As someone said earlier "it's like staying at a Motel 6 now."

BTW: You don't suppose they are downgrading the current DVC's in order for Kingdom Tower (which they are touting as something more upscale than current DVC resorts) to look even better. "Yep! You can stay at a studio at OKW for 8 pts a night. But look at this!!! Stay in a studio at Kingdom Towers, there we will pamper you! Real dishes, real glasses, and real coffee mugs. And we will even through in some dish soap. All for a great value of 20 pts per night."

For sure. Like you said, their spin is weak at best. Lately DVC's corporate response/philosophy seems to be guided by Rizzo the Rat. "They're Tourists. What do they know?"

I openly apologize. I misunderstood and thought you were mocking those who were (like myself) unhappy. Again....I'm sorry.
