Political: Iraqi Soccer Players Mad About Bush Ad

How foolish I am dawn, I should have realized that you would be such a better spokesperson for the Iraqi.

Does the U.S Soccer team represent the entire United States? Even the entire NFL doesn't represent the entire United States and that's a lot bigger. The Iraqi soccer team is free to express an opinion and we are free to disagree.

Duh...no...of course not. But the US team represents America a heck of a lot more than a foreigner does. All I have said repeatedly is that they get more of a voice than you, or any other American does. It is THEIR flag. THEIR country. NOT yours !

FIK, how do you feel about the way our flag is treated in other countries? I'm really curious.

And if YOU think that the Iraqi soccer team represents the entire country of Iraq, then there is no point in trying to explain.

The ad isn't just the pictures of the flags. By using supposed Olympic athletes while showing those flags, Bush is of course using the Iraqi athletes to promote his politcal campaign.

The impression is that those actors playing athletes are Iraqi's.

I'm sure if he could've gotten some real Iraqi's to be in the ad, he would have, but since they want no part of it, he used actors.

They have every right to complain. He's not legally required to honor their wishes, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't.

Peachgirl,

Since millions of Americans are opposed to John Kerry running as president, do you also think he should obey their wishes and withdraw now instead of waiting until November 2nd?

I hate it. I hate the use of the flag to display hatred. I think most people have a visceral reaction to it. When Quebec was trying to separate from Canada the Quebec government in power did some pretty shameful things. The rest of Canada was angered. Some people in Ontario did a stomping dance on the Quebec flag. It was caught on video. That single film clip was shown over and over again to convince the average Quebecer that the rest of the country hated them. It came within a hair of succeeding. The vote on succession was 50 point something to 49 point something.

People tend to react strongly to the use of their flag. Not just Americans. Other people too.

Should have just nuked the place - no more Saddam and no ungrateful idiots.

Typical argument from the right...You can't defend your candidate, so you try to attack the other one

Isn't the OP an attack on "the right"? If the premise is that it is wrong for Bush to use people who don't support him in a campaign ad, why is it wrong to point out that Kerry has done the same thing?

I find that a very disgusting comment.

Is it so hard to fathom that some of the "ungrateful idiots" may have lost family, friends, coworkers, jobs, homes and may not have your rose tinted glasses on? Do you really think that the only ones that were harmed in Iraq were terrorists or soldiers?

Ungrateful idiots? I think their statements show alot more class than yours do. :(

That's pathetic. What's even more pathetic is there are a lot of people who think just like you.

I don't know what in the world that has to do with this subject, but regardless, since at the moment there are more who don't want Bush running than Kerry, perhaps Bush should step aside.

???? They're showing swimmers in the ad. Iraq doesn't even have a swimming team; it's a desert country. No one who saw the ad could possibly think those were Iraqi athletes. You haven't seen it have you?

There's no way getting around the fact the ad was intended to depict Iraqs particpation in the Olympics. And that Iraq can now join the world stage at the Olympics. This is somehow a bad thing? Even if were shown in an election ad? Maybe you think it was in bad taste to show the Iraq and Afghan flag in such positive way, I don't. And I don't care who ran the ad. I seriously doubt that anyone who felt the war was wrong is now going to change their mind because of this ad. It was a "feel good" ad at best. And it should have been a "feel good" message for everyone. Even those that opposed the war. But, as usually, no amount of positive news will keep people from find a way to tarnish it.

The bottom line is that under SH and the previous sanctions, no Iraqi athlete would have ever been at the 2004 Olympics.

You know, you would think even you could agree that what he said was wrong, but I guess not.

No, John, I have no stats to back that up. Then again, you can tell by what people say and their reactions to things just how they really feel.

And you could have said you did and left it at that.

FYI (maybe too late but I don't care. really), I didn't like that comment either.

I could have, but then again you could've chosen to attack him instead of me. I guess it's all a matter of priorities.

Perhaps you'd be kind enough to share with me just what was so offensive about my comment?

You know what I find offensive?

We've got someone on these boards advocating murdering an entire population and you take offense to MY post because I say that others feel the same as he does and that it concerns me.

maybe too late but I don't care. really

Obviously....
