But have you seen this one ? The last election taught us (as no civics lesson could) that it is electoral votes that matter, not popular votes. This site takes that into consideration, and uses the most up-to-date polling information from various resources, so I don't se it as being slanted one way or the other (unless zogby is now a liberal pollster ;) ). Take a look and see what you think:

Electoral Polling Map

I generally dislike polls but that electoral map does give a good indication of which states are solidly in either camp, IMO.

I found it to be very interesting. You always have to question polling methods - although I do like the results;)

I wonder why PA is a weak Kerry state. I thought for sure it would be a rock solid Kerry state. Hmm. :smooth:

Well....it's on the verge of being a "solid" Kerry state, since he's got about an 8 percentage point lead. Actually, I'd prefer if MOST kerry states were "slight" instead of "solid"...Makes for a nervous march to the election, but it helps to get the voters out.

We're gonna turn Ohio around! I like this map though!!!

I hope so...Bush absolutely HAS to win both Ohio and Florida to win reelection...As this site says, there's just no electoral math that makes sense showing that he can win without BOTH of those states.

That said, what I'd really like to see is not just a win for Kerry, but a landslide win...I'm not even talking about the legislative races, just the presidency. A landslide, to me, would show that we will not be frightened by terrorists into aceeding to their demands, nor will the extreme right flank of the republican party frighten us into electing a failure of a president ::yes::

(But I'd settle for a one vote win in a state not controlled by the president's brother ;) )

Just my opinion, but I don't think you'll get a landslide either way. The South and mountain states are unlikely to support Kerry and the Northeast, Illinois and California are unlikely to support Bush.

Interesting. I think Oregon may flip to weak Bush for Election Day just because of some conservative issues (should gay marriage be recognized as legal in the state of Oregon) that made it to the ballot. I *think* more conservative voters will make the effort to vote this round, and most of them will toss their vote to Bush. Not that it matters a whole lot, as we don't have a lot of Electoral votes! I can't help but wonder just a teeny tiny bit if having Arnold as governor will sway anything in California or if it pretty much always going to be a Dem leaning state. I am also interested in seeing this map after the Republican Convention later this month.

Thanks for posting it.

I know I should probably know this and will look like an idiot for asking...but just how is it determined how many electorial votes each state gets. I know I did know this at one point...I just can't for the life of me remember!

Electoral votes for the state equal the number of U.S. Representatives the state has plus the number of U.S. Senators the state has (always 2).

See I knew it was something simple and that I should know it...as soon as I read your reply...I said to myself..."I knew that"!!!:teeth:

A very cool site, although I think the states with 1% difference should be in the exactly tied area. It will be even more interesting as we get closer to November. Thanks for the link.

Interesting! I'll have to make sure DH and I vote (he's absentee) to turn Washington around. ;)

Very cool!

I, too am looking forward to seeing FL in bright bold blue!!!!
